22.01.2022 In the past I had never been a gym goer, I could never get into it, How things have changed in the last 18 months. I had suffered some pretty serious injuries in a snow Skiing accident, a lot of Physio and rehab had helped with my basic range of movement, I didn’t know where to start with regaining function and fitness. After seeing Mermaid LTYB pop up on Facebook, I decided to go in and check it out and see what small group training was all about. I’ve found the personali...sed program to be really effective and flexible depending on my requirements at the time, anything from rehab work, which I still do, to maintain shoulder joint health, to strength and cardio. Every morning I’m greeted by a smiling face and a challenging workout, I really can’t thank Jacquie and the team enough, I’m loving my training, I feel great, I’ve lost about 12kgs, my knees are now pain free, my shoulder mobility and strength have improved out of sight and my clothes fit better. Recently I’ve taken advantage of the Pilates classes held at the studio, which was something way outside my comfort zone, if it wasn’t offered I would never have sought out a separate studio, I’m so glad I did as its become the low intensity work out I needed. LTYB Mermaid is a great training studio, with great trainers and great community of members, and highly recommend it to anyone at any stage of their fitness journey. - Chris Lowry

21.01.2022 How do you feel about running? I use to be someone that thought "I am not built for running and I hate running" and I could hardly make it one lap around an oval (400m) and now I run up to 10km. Like anything, if you truly want to do it, with consistency and time you will be able to. The main thing is starting small, interval training and building up time on your feet ... Now I really enjoy being able to run and doing something I use to think I would never do! If it's something you want to try we can help you!

08.01.2022 When you do weights you build lean muscle tissue which is more metabolically active than fat. When you increase your muscle, you also increase metabolism which means you're burning more calories throughout the day. Doing regular strength training is just as important as cardio exercise for losing fat and getting fit. We recommend doing weights at least 3 times a week

03.01.2022 Exercise of the week Glute bridges Glute bridges target your butt muscles, they help to tone & strengthen this entire area. When you practice glute bridges regularly you are not only targeting your glutes, you are also targeting your lower back muscles, those muscles that are meant to hold your body upright will be getting stronger. The bridge helps to reduce lower-back pain as well. It works the hamstrings, lower back, abs, in addition to the glutes. The glute bridge also does a great job of activating and strengthening your core stabilizer muscles. Glute bridge weekly challenge. Add 50 reps of glute bridges to your workout each day. You can do 50 in a row or break them up through your workout.

02.01.2022 I joined LTYB in January 2018 and have been attending between 3 and 5 days per week ever since. It will be my 3rd year anniversary before I know it. And yes, I will be celebrating with cream-cake! I decided to join when I realised I had let my work suck up all my time that I had stopped exercising and my 45yo body was evolving into my dads! It had been a few years since I was last a "gym-goer" and it was starting to show. With my declined fitness (I was out of breath ty...ing up ice-skating boots!) I had lost the motivation and desire to do the things I enjoy the most - being outdoors and adventurous, mountain biking, running and most importantly, keeping up with my youngsters. O yes, I am also super vein! It was time to shed some kilos and trim the waistline, and get back to enjoying being fit & healthy once again. Having used gyms previously and other forms of exercise methods from personal trainers, boot camps, group classes and solo workouts, I now knew what I needed out of a gym for me to remain keen. 1) Convenient to attend (LYTB Mermaid is almost on my doorstep). 2) Provide variety with random (aka "planned by someone else!" ) training across both strength and fitness (I get bored very quick by consistent routines). 3) Personal attention, when it's needed, in a friendly non-intimidating environment of "normal" people. 4) Affordable and good value (not the expense of private 1:1, but more than going at it alone in a hall filled of scary equipment). LYTB Mermaid provides all this in buckets and I have come to include it as an extension to my home and social life. The icing on the cake was when my friend who watched by body transform (did I mention I was vein?) over twelve months join up and now we meet each day to exercise together, in and outside the gym, often bookended with coffee at the downstairs cafe. Having a friend train with you not just adds to the enjoyment but also helps keep you committed. I reached my primary goal in the first 6-12 months and got my weight back down to where it should be. Belt buckle has returned to its original hole and not the improvised corkscrew extension I added. CONT. in COMMENTS...
