21.01.2022 The Australian Association of Psychologists Inc (AAPi), the leading not-for-profit membership association for psychologists in the country, created the followin...g petition to increase funding for Mental Health Services during COVID-19 epidemic. We urge the Minister of Health to: *Allow all psychologists to provide bulk-billed sessions under the one, higher Medicare tier. The system currently discriminates by type of psychologist. *Grant an additional 10 sessions in the mental health plan, due to the increase in stress/isolation of the Australian public (similar to the Bushfire Recovery Program). *Allow Australians to self-refer to their mental health professional of choice to access rebated counselling (as was authorised for the Bushfire Recovery Program) and lift the requirement for review by GP after every six sessions. The government needs to consider the mental health needs of the Australian public now and into the future. Forcing two thirds of psychologists to operate on the lower rebate will put them out of business and leave a huge gap in services for the most vulnerable Australians. 21.01.2022 Codependency is something we begin learning in our earliest years. When we have parent figures who are disconnected from self, there will be blurred emotional b...oundaries. Blurred emotional boundaries look like: 1. A parent sharing intimate information as if a child is a friend/peer 2. A parent spying/snooping 3. A parent telling a child to toughen up or to not be so sensitive/dramatic/etc 4. A parent communicating marital issues through children 5. A parent denying a childs reality: oh uncle mark is a great guy or I dont know why youre so upset, it wasnt a big deal All of these behaviors are unconscious + unintentional, but as children these lack of boundaries translate into seeking self through others. We have low self worth + as adults, we look to other people to give us this sense of self worth. Many people describe this as social anxiety which at its core is the fear of being seen or heard because at one time that meant shame. Codependency conditioning carries a lot of shame because when other people are the source of our self worth, we end up on emotional roller coasters. Do you see this pattern in your own life? #selfhealers

14.01.2022 On cognitive dissonance.
14.01.2022 This is the reason why I always educate my clients about the importance of understanding and treating the underlying issues that cause their symptoms: "Diagnoses listed in the DSMthe Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, the so-called bible of psychiatrydo not cause anything. They are not things. They are agreed-upon labelsa kind of shorthandfor describing symptoms. Generalized anxiety disorder means a person has been anxious or worried for six months or longer and its bad enough to cause problemsnothing else. The diagnosis is description, not explanation. Saying anxiety is caused by generalized anxiety disorder makes as much sense as saying anxiety is caused by anxiety."
13.01.2022 Great (although a bit technical) explanation of EMDR.

11.01.2022 Appalling!!! This 23 year old has been offering counseling services, targeting very very specific presentations (borderline personality disorder, trauma survivors), claiming he has 'a decade' of experience. Link to the news article on comments. *Please sign the petition to ban him from working in the mental health sector.*... https://www.change.org/p/tyson-vacher-tyson-john-vacher-to-
