18.01.2022 This is a plea to the residents of Naracoorte, Lucindale and surrounds. The decisions we make today and over the next few weeks will impact the lives of our fr...iends, family and neighbours. There is no point sugar coating COVID19. You need to understand this virus will kill members of our community. And not just the old ones. Young adults are also dying overseas. The death rate has previously been reported at 1% but that is only if you can get appropriate medical care. In Italy the death rate is over 4%. Our hospital in Naracoorte is small, most of you have been admitted or visited a loved one there. We usually run at 2/3rds capacity. We do not have an ICU. We fly critically ill patients out via the RFDS. The Naracoorte population is about 6000 people. During a pandemic 40-70% of the population becomes infected without control measures. Yes, it is true most people whom become infected will have mild disease. But some will not. Up to 1 in 5 people infected will develop a pneumonia and need a hospital bed for oxygen. 1 in 20 people infected will need an ICU bed and ventilation. Our hospital has 20 beds. And no ICU beds. I’ll let you do the math. In Naracoorte we will not be able to treat ventilated patients. We will require those patients to be flown out by RFDS to the city hospitals. This will ONLY happen if an aeroplane is available, and if there is a spare bed in Adelaide. 2 RFDS planes service the South East, and are almost always in the air transporting ill patients. They are already at capacity, without COVID19 patients. If a plane or an ICU bed is not available, and we are expecting there may not be, you may not be able to get the appropriate medical care you need. This includes patients without COVID19 infections too. Like the woman in preterm labour, or the young man in a vehicle accident, or your parent having a heart attack. People will need to be prioritised. Patients with the best chance of survival will be treated first. That means if you are older, or have a chronic medical condition, you may not have the option of being transferred out. We may need to make ethical decisions we have never had to face before, about who gets treatment and who doesn’t. Please, please, do not let us have to make these decisions. The virus will enter our town eventually. DO NOT INVITE IT IN. Now is NOT the time to be meeting with friends. Yes, the pubs may be closed but please don’t ‘have a few people over’ for drinks. Don’t travel over Easter. Don’t let the kids come down and visit from Adelaide. Don’t invite the cousins down camping because ‘it’s not here yet’. This virus is clever. It can live on surfaces for up to 3 days, maybe longer. People will be contagious prior to developing symptoms, some people may never show symptoms. COVID19 REQUIRES SOCIAL INTERACTIONS AND PEOPLE TO TRAVEL IN ORDER TO SPREAD. EVERY SINGLE INTERACTION THAT OCCURS BETWEEN PEOPLE, INCREASES THE LIKELIHOOD THAT MORE CASES OF COVID19 WILL OCCUR. It’s simple. Stay at home. Practice social distancing. Wash your hands. If you are told to self isolate or quarantine - DO IT! Without exceptions. We can flatten the curve, but only if everyone makes the right choices NOW. Save the lives of the people you love. Because in the coming months, us doctors may not be able to.

09.01.2022 Naracoorte/Lucindale Junior Tennis Rd 4 Naracoorte Lucindale Junior Tennis is shaping up to be anyone’s game on any given day. We had an upset with the Naracoorte Green team who were sitting on top of the ladder losing 39-32 to Naracoorte White who managed their first win of the season. There was a close game in the double with Indie Schroder and Mia McCarthy defeating Lachy Clyne and Hannah Edwards 6-5. The battle of the brothers saw some great team work and even some blo...od spilled with Koch v Drew going the Koch’s way 6-2. A close game in the number 1 singles going Brayden Stewarts way 6-4 against Lachie Edwards. A fun single was had with Lottie Clyne taking the win 6-0 over Harry White. The Koalas hosted Naracoorte Red with the Koalas victorious 44-28. The first 3 doubles were tightly contested but the Koalas made the most of the home court advantage in the singles. Five of the six Koalas winning both matches for the day. The Lucindale Roos took on Naracoorte Blue which was always going to be a close battle. Kiele and Ella Longbottom are proving a formidable duo winning 6-2 against Lucy Handbury and Jock McKay, their first loss for the season. Alice Rayner and Bailey Clarke just scrapped in with a 6-5 win over Toby Longbottom and Henry Orton. We saw some lovely tennis from the number 1 girls with Kiele getting to win over Lucy 6-4. Jock and Ella had a tightly fought battle with Jock managing to change tactics to hold on for a 7-5 win. The match was all tied as the 5&6 doubles were finishing up. Bailey and Hannah Kiefel managed to hold their nerve taking a 6-4 win over Henry and Anna Orton. The Roos just scrapping in to take the win 40-38.

09.01.2022 The closing date for nominations has been extended to Wednesday 2nd December. Please contact Eliza Handbury (junior rep) for more information

08.01.2022 Lucindale Area School year 3 and 4 students will be participating in the Upper South East ANZ Hot Shots Schools Carnival on Wednesday September 9th in Naracoorte. This is a great initiative by Tennis SA to get kids on the court participating in this great sport. Lucindale Area School is running weekly Hot Shots sessions during PE to work on their skills before the big day.

07.01.2022 Round 3 Naracoorte Lucindale Junior Tennis Round 3 saw Naracoorte White and Green travel down to play the Lucindale teams on the lawn. It was great to see the kids learning to adapt to the different bounce on the grass. Lucindale Roos came out on top against Naracoorte White winning 41 -24. Well done to Harry Robinson who played competitive tennis for the first time, and did a great job.... The match of the day was the 5 and 6 doubles which went to Harvey Koch and Mia McCarthy 6-4 against Bailey Clarke and Harry Robinson. Lucindale Koalas hosted the Naracoorte Green side with Green defeating the Koalas 39-31. Paige Pinchbeck and Brooke Edwards had a great battle, Brooke winning 7-5. The 5 & 6 double was also a close one with Lachie Clyne and Toby Drew coming out on top 6-5. Naracoorte Red pretty much lead all day with the middle and tail proving too strong for Naracoorte Blue. Red 33 games defeated Blue 29. The closest match of the day was again the 5&6 doubles with Georgina Mahney and Sid Wilkin just hanging in there to defeat Anna Orton and Henry Orton 6-5. The Naracoorte Lucindale Tennis is shaping up to be quite the contest. We have four teams sitting on equal points at the top of the ladder each having won two matches and losing one. It’s fabulous to see so many rallies out on the court- everyone is improving every week! Keep it up!

06.01.2022 If anyone is interested in going to Country Carnival in January please message Melissa McGrath or Leanne Graetz. Mount Gambier have a Men’s Div 1 & Div 2 team ...going but looking for another couple of men to join them if anyone is interested. Leanne is also looking at putting in a women’s team for Southern Ports. It is a great weekend away with some great tennis to be had. See more

03.01.2022 What a season the Southern Ports Tennis is shaping up to be with again 3 out of the 4 matches being down to the wire with 2 matches being 12 sets all with the o...ther being a 13-11 result for Round 5. No real surprises on the winners however the closeness could have easily seen some upsets again this week with Millicent/Beachport giving Naracoorte a run for their money with the day coming down to the doubles. The Koalas hung in as much as they could to only go down by 16 games against Frances/Naracoorte which you would have to put as the match of the round while The Cockatoos caught the Roos on the hop to secure a 12 set all win to go a spot above the Roo’s on the ladder. Robe have put themselves a game Infront of everyone on the ladder after securing an easy win over Kingston. It is great to see the competition so close and competitive with the full run down of each match below. Naracoorte came into Round 5 searching for a win against Millicent/Beachport, after a close loss in the previous round. True to form, Kelsie Moyle-Read and Daniel Moos kicked off the afternoon with a 6-4 win over Tim Loveday and Sally Bateman. However, Jake Harris and Lachie Lang hit back, defeating Poppy Moyle-Read and George White, 6-3. Comfortable wins from both teams saw the score at 3 sets all at the end of the mixed doubles. Singles started with an easy, 6-1, win for Naracoorte fill-in, Jamie Bettoncelli. Millicent/Beachport’s Tim Loveday and Darcy Bateman won two tiebreakers to give their team the lead. Match of the day between men’s no. 1’s saw White secure a 7-5 win over Harris. With 9 sets a piece at the end of the singles, both teams were searching for four doubles wins to seal the day. Millicent/Beachport scored first with a 9-7 win by Emma Lang and Nicole Thomas. However, it didn’t take long for Naracoorte to bounce back, securing the middle and bottom men’s doubles, 9-3 each. Harris and Loveday won Millicent/Beachport a much needed second double, defeating White and Moos, 9-1. With two ladies’ doubles left on the court, both teams were watching eagerly. But in the end, Naracoorte were able to secure both doubles to take home the win. Three set winners were Kelsie Moyle-Read and Jamie Bettoncelli for Naracoorte while Millicent/Beachport had no one that secure the 3 sets. Naracoorte 13 sets -135 defeated Millicent/Beachport 11 sets - 117. From the Lucindale lawn to Naracoorte cement, Frances/Naracoorte proved that they are a force to be reckoned with, narrowly defeating the Wombats by 16 games. There were several tightly contested matches. The first being between Lachie Grundy Frances/Naracoorte and Tim Legoe Wombats (6-7), the second Danielle Moore Frances/Naracoorte and Vanessa Clarke Wombats (6-7) and the third between Jane Fitzgerald, Hannah Grundy Frances/Naracoorte and Heather Pitt and Casey Weaver Wombats (9-10), with the Wombats winning all three. Fortunately for the Frances/Naracoorte team Judith Fudge, Richard Pilmore and Sid Malone had strong wins all day which was enough to enable the home team to sneak across the line, 12 sets all 131 games to 115. Congratulations to all three set winners. Casey Weaver, Heather Pitt and Vanessa Clarke for the Wombats while Sid Malone, Judith Fudge and Richard Pilmore were 3 set winners for Frances/Naracoorte. For the third week in a row, the Lucindale Cockatoos again had a 12 set all tie, and for the third week in a row, they won by a games count back, against the Lucindale Roo’s, at the Lucindale Country Club in perfect tennis weather. There were close games all day, with most of the matches, being won by only one service break, meaning some long games. Old teammates Tom McKinnon and Matthew Waugh was a great match up, with some hard hitting from the base line. Duncan Ogilvie and Mitch Baker had a tussle all day, despite their sledging of each other, their day culminated in a 10-9 tie-break in their men’s doubles. Leanne Graetz was in great form getting the ball to spin and turn on the grass, and she had a great match up against Eliza Handbury who has been hitting the ball well all year. Three set winners were Anthony McCarthy and Joel Munro for the Roos, and for the Cockies, the young pairing of Lucy Handbury and Kiele Longbottom were there only three set winners, well done girls! A beautiful sunny and windless day on the coast had ideal playing conditions for when Kingston took on Robe at home. The mixed doubles went Robe's way taking all 4 sets. Sophie Ling filling in for the Kingston team came up against Life Member for Robe and her dad Lewis. Sophie and Will got up in a fantastic set 7-5. The singles were a one-sided affair, with Robe adding another 9 to the tally. The standout set was Will Edwards taking it up to Lewis in a tie break, unfortunately falling just short. Robe continued to win taking 4 of the doubles ending the day with 17 sets to 7 sets and 141-92 games. Stand out player of the day was Egan Regnier dropping only 1 game. Special mention for the amazing afternoon tea with the Robe players turning it on, great to have Anne Ling's famous sponge back. Thank you to Kingston team for travelling to Robe, we hope you enjoyed. Round 6 will see last year’s Division 1 grand final re-match against Naracoorte and Robe which no doubt will be a thriller! If Robe have a full team, I am tipping them to get across the line. Millicent/Beachport and the Roo’s will both be fighting for a win after both losing a close one this week. The Lucindale Cockatoos and Koalas will be a close battle while the Wombats will be desperate for a win after coming so close to a win this week and unbelievably trying to get off the bottom of the ladder when they take on Kingston. Games this week are at Naracoorte, Lucindale and Beachport if you want to check out some of the exceptional tennis that is being played.
