23.01.2022 This article answers many of the questions I have been asked about Irlen Coloured Lenses. An interesting read With Kindness and Colour Lucy

22.01.2022 Whoopie Goldberg, U2's Bono and Tom Cruise and many others who have openly talked about their visual stress or visual dyslexia and ADD/HD wear colored glasses. ...My son told his high school friends they help him to read better and get less headaches and its too bad that they comment since he would rather feel "good" and that he considered them "kool". Soon other kids were very very curious and I received referrals from parents of some of those kids who revealed their visual stress, headaches etc after hearing from my son how he benefited. All teachers received an email describing Irlen spectral filters and in this email they were told that they are not "sunglasses" but glasses to enable better learning. See more

22.01.2022 We often find our clients reporting that they or their children are clumsy, trip over easily, walk into corners of tables and doorways, have difficulty with stairs and escalators! Depth perception is just one area where they report improvement with their Irlen lens.

20.01.2022 DO YOU HAVE TROUBLE COPING WITH FLUORESCENT LIGHTS ? Some people hate going into shopping centres because it is too bright. Some have told me that they have... had to leaves their shopping trolley and just get out of ther situation as soon as possible. Some supermarkets are having designated times when they decrease the lighting to support those parents who have children with a sensory processing difficulty. Many of these would have a visual processing disorder with symptoms known as Irlen Syndrome. For those who can't stand fluorescent lighting, Irlen Spectral Filters make it much more tolerable to be under fluorescent lights. These people often get migraines from the fluorescent lighting as well. # migraines # headaches #visual #processingdisorder For further information go to the following website. www.irlendyslexia.com You can make an appointment on line on either the website or our Facebook page.

15.01.2022 Irlen Syndrome is a visual processing condition that can often affects learning as people often struggle to understand what they are reading. Reading can be mad...e easier by filtering out the offensive light waves using coloured lenses or sheets of plastic. Campaigners in Jersey want schools to test all students for the syndrome.

14.01.2022 Can Irlen Syndrome (visual processing difficulty) affect how SHEET MUSIC is perceived? Well, YES, it is not surprising that people who are sensitive to black an...d white contrast have a hard time perceiving what is on the page. 12 year old Reagan came to the Krist Samaritan Irlen Clinic, Houston/Galveston over the Summer. Her mom told me that, even though she was in a band, she had to learn by ear (listening). In the VIDEO clip Reagan was able to explain what the notes and bars usually did. love her smile when she realizes things will be so much easier now we have found an Irlen color to be worn as glasses that stabilizes the music and makes it clear.

04.01.2022 WHAT IF EVERYTIME YOU TRIED TO READ BLACK PRINT ON WHITE PAPER THE WORDS JOINED UP SO THAT ALL YOU COULD SEE WAS A BLACK "BLOB"? Do you think that you would be ...able to read? Do you think that if you were a school student, the teacher would wonder why you could not read? Do you think you would feel frustrated? Would you wonder why all the other kids in the class seemed to be able to read but you couldn't? How would you feel if you knew the words in isolation, but as soon as they were in sentences on a page of print, they just turned into a black "blob"? Would you know that for other people this did not happen? The answer to that last question is NO! That is why children DO NOT SELF-REPORT their visual distortions. They think that everyone sees things the same way. SO.. if your child is having problems reading for no apparent reason, ask them some of the following questions.. "How do the words look for you on the page?" "Do the words on the page seem to move?" "Do the words seem to have shadows on them?" "Do your eyes hurt when you read the words on the page?" These questions will let the child know that you are aware that something may be happening on the page when they are reading. Once they think that someone understands, they will feel more confident about confiding in you. Whatever you do, you MUST BELIEVE THEM. In my experience seeing kids everyday, they don't lie about these things. Many parents are surprised when they hear their child say things like.. "the words just disappeared".. or "the words changed places" or "letters in the words changed places".. etc.. Believe me, there are many more of these amazing revelations that we hear about during the assessment. Another thing to look for, is to observe your child while reading... do they blink a lot, do they open their eyes wide, do they rub their eyes, do their eyes water, do they say that their head hurts, do they say that they have a pain in their eyes? #dyslexia #visualprocessingdisorder #visualperception #soreeyes #rubbingeyes #eyestrain #headaches #migraines #readingdifficulties #spellingproblems For further information about Irlen Syndrome, which is a symptom of Visual Processing Disorder, go to www.irlendyslexia.com

02.01.2022 WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN USING AN IRLEN OVERLAY AND IRLEN SPECTRAL FILTERS (LENSES)? We see children sometimes who have been screened and found to have sy...mptoms of the Visual Processing Disorder that results in the symptoms known as Irlen Syndrome. Despite this, their parents seem to think that just using the overlay is enough. Unfortunately, the overlay is just a crude method of filtering out the troublesome wavelengths of light that cause this problem. They are only intended to help out until the correct tint can be determined for the lenses. There are other differences between the overlays and the lenses.. these include: Overlays... *colour the page * are a crude way of removing the bright lights *are not designed for long term use * they do not help when looking at the board *they do not protect the brain from the bright light *they change the colour of pictures etc. in books Lenses.... *DO NOT colour the page.. white still looks white *they will not change the colour of pictures etc. * they are very specific to the individual's needs *they are normal optometric lenses, so will last *they will make it easier to look at the board *they will protect the brain from the bright light I saw such a student recently who was assessed years ago and found to have a Visual Processing Disorder, and the overlay provided removed the symptoms of this. But, he told his mother that he would not wear coloured glasses, so he was not brought back until recently. When he eventually found the correct tint for him, the difference for him was amazing. All of the distortions experienced were removed by the lenses, he felt more relaxed when looking through the lenses, AND his reading fluency was improved dramatically IMMEDIATELY. He now, CANNOT WAIT to get his Irlen lenses. He is more confident about his schoolwork and understands that this is now the BEGINNING of the rest of his life which is going to be so much easier. #irlenspectrallenses #visualprocessingdisorder #irlenoverlays #visualdistortions #whitepages #brightlights #whiteboards for further information about Irlen Syndrome go to www.irlendyslexia.com
