21.01.2022 FILL YOUR OWN CUP I haven’t posted about Christmas at all yet. In some sense I feel that I’ve already had my. Coming back from a 5 week trip to France & UK, seeing my family after 3 long years I really feel like I need nothing else. My cup is full! I am not feeling the usual rush or madness for this time of year, but rather a gentleness. Going back to simple things and concentrating on the important stuff. I encourage clients to really slow down at this time of year, tak...e deep healing breaths and even longer out breaths and not get caught up in the C words (comparison, chaos, credit..!). I’ll be here all summer visiting clients at home and having clients visit my space in Randwick. 19.01.2022 PLOT TWIST One month ago today, I received a positive diagnosis for breast cancer. It’s not how I had envisaged the end of 2019, it’s not how I wanted to start 2020 either. To say the last month has felt surreal at times is an understatement. With a natural bent for philosophical thinking this news got me in a tail spin. As I sat in the doctors reception waiting to be called in with the news, another patients phone went off, the ring tone was Riders on the storm ... I kn...ew it then, this was it. Funny the details you remember when life tilts. The first week I felt like a superhero, calm with the ability to absorb vast amounts of information on the topic. I now understand I was in hyper mode, as I have slowly become accustomed to the news. Slowly a deep sadness came over me tinged with incomprehension. I was the healthy one, the one who ate well, exercised, didn’t smoke, drink, do drugs, hadn’t been to the hospital since giving birth. I had done everything right no? I’ve had to let go of all of that, my ego has been bruised, the stories I told myself no longer serve and as I stand to lose my hair in the coming weeks, my ego will take another knock. As will my identity. If I’m too unwell to work, then who am I? The reflexology treatments I’ve given in the last month have felt particularly poignant. I adore the work I do. On the plus side, I’ve never hugged so many people in my life. My children inspire me to fight this. I’ve seen my husband in a new light, he’s an incredible cancer coach I’ve decided. We’re going to ride this storm together. I’ve been very touched by the texts, emails, flowers, gifts, cups of tea, book suggestions from friends and family. I’m lucky I can walk to the hospitals. The staff are the hero’s in this story. Humanity at its finest. I hesitated to share this big news, but I don’t want to deal with shame or hiding on top of everything else. Better just to get it out. Yes I’ve felt sorry for myself, but if my regular trips to the hospital have taught me anything, it’s that people are incredible, resilient and that there’s a lot of people suffering out there who may be in a worse state. 17.01.2022 FEEL IT ALL Well it’s been a while friends! These are my 2nd #vivobarefoot shoes and I cannot underestimate the impact they have had on my feet, ankles, hips and spine right up to my shoulders and even lung function and core strength. Best of all, is the fact that I feel everything (Swipe to see what I felt underfoot whilst at home - I couldn’t believe how switched on my feet had become). 07.01.2022 ON THE MOVE Hey friends, it's all quite sudden but my gorgeous room and the whole building will be undergoing major renovations soon and thus sadly I will be leaving on June 18, last day for business will be Sunday June 17th. To mark the move, I am having a sale on my 90 minute sessions, $90 instead of $105, any time, any day. Thank you to you all for your support and business - much appreciated! 06.01.2022 SWEET SEPTEMBER So it turns out it wasn’t until September that I could live out my chosen word for 2019: capable. I’ve spent most of this year hiding behind Instagram stories, lots of reflexology (yay!), but not putting myself out there in posts, kind of in lock down over a transgression I was increasingly unable to tolerate. In itself the transgression was not catastrophic but I guess my coping skills were poor and this affected me greatly. I raged inside and shut down.... Since April friends suggested I should see someone, so I finally did in August. That helped. I have also had huge benefits from reading @the.holistic.psychologist posts - the reasons why we react to things is fascinating! Another expander has been @thenaturallifestylist who as I type is about to finish an epic 900 mile barefoot run, the length of the UK - 30miles / day for 30 days. I decided to do my own little challenge this September and made a promise to myself to run every day. Only 3-6km, whatever the weather, whatever the time of day, the pace or my mood. I did it! And I’m not the same person I was a month ago. I’ve ditched coffee and dairy, started running in my @vivobarefootausnz shoes, had a colonic, embrace 2 min cold showers after my usual shower, my clothes fit better and I feel capable! I’m back and it feels great! I’m working hard on my mindset with @miriambrewer_ and I’m getting closer to the person I aspire to be. 06.01.2022 LIGHT Here is my beautiful new room! If my previous room was like a warm & intimate cocoon, this one feels light, grounded and open. The afternoon sun creates interesting shadows that dance on the white walls, and it really was an easy transition into this new space. My first day was actually last Saturday afternoon and I believe my clients loved it too! Any sadness I may have felt in the lead up to leaving my previous room completely disappeared upon closing the door for ...one last time. There are no more energetic ties, only lovely memories and lessons learned. I’m stepping up and ready to work more deeply with people wanting to take ownership of their health. Part of the work is education. Educating clients about the far reaching benefits of regular reflexology treatments, around intention and self-reflection post treatment. It goes so much further than the physical... I took a little time off last week to make necessary tweaks to my website, my Google business profile, Facebook page, Instagram profile, got a new business stamp made up, new sign, tweaked my branding and undertook compulsory First Aid & CPR training - busy! I also want to thank my Insta family and friends for checking up on me - I was so touched. I’m fine - more than fine actually if you’ve seen my Insta story today about medicinal mushrooms...! 02.01.2022 CLARITY Two months shy of a year ago, I took the plunge and rented a gorgeous room to practice reflexology full time. Previously, I’d practised reflexology part-time in shared clinics so this was a leap of faith. And whilst I only ever broke even once (Elon Musk you are not alone!!), I gained something no money could buy. Intuition through observation. I had time to think. Maybe this was my philosophers cave moment?! My techniques matured and I’m confident in my ability a...s a an intuitive reflexologist. I don’t underestimate the honour I have to work with clients. So whilst this beautiful adventure was cut short I wish the new owners of the building, local orthodontists, all the best in this wonderful peaceful place. It has taught me the power of patience, precision work, observation, fine tuning and humility and I will forever carry these gifts forward into the next phase of my life as a reflexologist. And in a funny quirk of fate, I will be joining 3 former tenants (kind accountant John Barry & much respected energy healer Penny Short & very in demand osteopath Nisha Henderson) in the new space in Randwick. Seems we are linked by some invisible thread! I will miss the gentle giant at our gate and all its’ vocal birds! And most importantly, thank you thank you thank you to all who supported me.
