25.01.2022 New to yoga, or have been practicing for a while but are keen to learn the foundations again? This new series on A Live Yogi could be perfect.

25.01.2022 Mmm feeling IT this morning... . Spending longer than I want to in one of the most challenging aspects of my yoga practice - meditation ~ where the mind begins busy and darts in various directions, before quietness ensues. . I’m here solo in Bali for a few days, before I dive into 6 days of meditation, yoga and elemental exploration with @elements.of.sal.... . Thinking I should have done this a long time ago, but feeling and believing in divine timing See more

24.01.2022 Internal EF YES lasted well beyond walking in here and the 90 minute practice. I’ve officially landed.

24.01.2022 This simple graphic here represents the most fundamental principle, and one of the most complex concepts in Chinese Medicine (and yoga too): Yin Yang Yin and Yang are two opposing yet complementary forces. Their qualities are vastly different; Yin is associated with the moon and Yang with the sun . Yin is also feminine (not female), nighttime, cold, restful, soft, flexible, inward, calm and receptive. Yang is masculine (not male), daytime, heat, movement, logic, extern...al, giving and vibrant. While the two halves are opposite, they also depend on one another to create a balanced whole . This is evident in every corner of nature, in our bodies, minds and lives. We can sense into the interdependence of Yin and Yang in our daily experiences; without periods of activity, we can’t fall into deep rest, and without deep rest, we can’t commit fully to the activity. Usually the quality we are avoiding is the one we need the most. If you’ve been ticking things off your to do list since the beginning of time, without a moment of pause, it’s time to be still. If you’ve been stagnant and lacking motivation, now is the time to get active in the sun, get some oxygen into your lungs, and do something that makes you feel alive . I’d love to know, do you think you are more dominant in yin or yang? And do you have a practice to help you find balance? Image & artist: @artofbeing

22.01.2022 What if we measured the success of our days not by our productivity levels, but by our presence? We are conditioned to (and rewarded for) striving, for working towards a moment in time that does not yet exist. This is important for sure, but if we don’t teach ourselves to Be Here Now, how will we ever know when we’ve reached that moment? For we will be devoted to the next, and the next, and the next... Each experience is enriched when we drench it in our attention. Get c u ...r i o u s ~ tune in to your senses ~ breathe deeply. Hang around with kids! They are so connected to this moment. 22.01.2022 A lush little corner of our yard that I’ve become reacquainted with since we started (gratefully) spending more time at home... I filmed two classes for @aliveyogi here today, and then spent a few moments laying down in the sun and staring up at the vast blue sky. This extra time has given me days of total motivation and productivity (so much space for my favourite activities), followed swiftly by days where all I want to do is lay down. And I’m cool with that. There was a ...time when I’d be critical of myself for being ‘unproductive’, but now more than ever I’m feeling that sometimes being ‘unproductive’ is the most productive thing we can do. For it’s in those moments of ‘nothingness’ that everything can happen. That we give ourselves space to breathe, thoughts to rise and settle, emotions to float and dissolve, processing, processing, processing. Now more than ever we need that space... So if you feel like doing yoga, awesome. If you don’t, that’s awesome too. Be kind to yourselves beautiful people See more

20.01.2022 Starting Friday with some movement because I’m already lacking motivation for a day at the desk Going to jump on my mat and move this prana around my body! . @aliveyogi coming to the rescue again. . @the_roberto_gallery

20.01.2022 If I watch the news in the morning, I’m in a negative headspace for the day (the main reason we ditched the TV and didn’t own one for 2 years). If I watch it in the evening, I go to bed feeling deflated (and sometimes I dream about politicians... ergh ). . Are you the same? Do you notice the effect the media has on your mindset? Stu and I are really conscious of the negativity the TV brings into the living room and into our minds. When we’ve had a big day, we don’t turn the ...TV on. Instead, we do something healthy for the mind like take a bath, practice some yin yoga, lay or sit down (without the phone), play with the dog, or go for a walk. . Ok so I have TWO QUESTIONS. . 1. Do you have a practice to bring some peace to the mind? To balance out all of the activity of the day... the thinking, the problem solving, the working, the running, the working OUT? . 2. How do you get your news without feeling like the media company is trying to sell an agenda and instill fear in you? . Genuinely asking... please let me know See more

15.01.2022 In times of great change, may we look to the trees for guidance ~ May we remain grounded with our roots planted firmly in the earth May we remain flexible ~ a rigid tree breaks while a bendy one adapts to the changing conditions May we continue to grow towards the light May we remember that trees grow better together, and extend our branches out to those who need some extra support

15.01.2022 Online yoga giveaway!

15.01.2022 I’ve been searching all day for motivation but it was no where to be found... I even cleaned up and did a 20 min meditation which often gives me a reset, but nope not today. Just one of those days. After getting some things ‘done’ but still feeling kind of shitty, I knew I needed to get on my mat and move my body. . I thought I’d play around with some new transitions for my upcoming series on @aliveyogi, but I realised as soon as I started moving that I was holding a lot of t...ension in my hips (of course - this is always the reason when I can’t concentrate!). So a hip harmonising flow it was. . So now I’ve ironed out Tuesday and Wednesday’s creases and I’m feeling a whole lot better for it. Going to guzzle some water, and then prepare for teaching tonight @bodhibodyyoga. If you too are feeling bored / frustrated / unmotivated and you’re not sure why, just spend a little time moving your body... you are bound to feel much better for it. . See more

14.01.2022 I have felt out of flow in a lot of ways lately, especially in my yoga asana practice. It was so nice to get back on the mat today and move with the guidance of @elements.of.sal on A Live Yogi. Feeling connected to a part of myself I’d forgotten about for a little while there. Grateful for this practice and the coming home, again and again.

12.01.2022 I haven’t been around here much lately, as I’ve been busy getting married in Tuscany It was a dream... . We are now in Sicily amongst some 3000 year old architecture enjoying sunshine, coastline, lemons, granita, cannoli, local vino and alllll the treats. . I’m also enjoying ironing out all of the creases that travel brings ~ each time I step on the mat I’m reminded of how much I love this practice My home away from home.

12.01.2022 Let’s hold space for one another and acknowledge our humanness #worldmentalhealthweek

11.01.2022 Thank you to my teacher Sally Meredith for sharing this reflection with me ~ May we all find the light at this time and treat each other with compassion. -... Yes there is fear. Yes there is isolation. Yes there is panic buying. Yes there is sickness. Yes there is even death. But, They say that in Wuhan after so many years of noise You can hear the birds again. They say that after just a few weeks of quiet The sky is no longer thick with fumes But blue and grey and clear. They say that in the streets of Assisi People are singing to each other across the empty squares, keeping their windows open so that those who are alone may hear the sounds of family around them. They say that a hotel in the West of Ireland Is offering free meals and delivery to the housebound. Today a young woman I know is busy spreading fliers with her number through the neighbourhood So that the elders may have someone to call on. Today Churches, Synagogues, Mosques and Temples are preparing to welcome and shelter the homeless, the sick, the weary All over the world people are slowing down and reflecting All over the world people are looking at their neighbours in a new way All over the world people are waking up to a new reality To how big we really are. To how little control we really have. To what really matters. To Love. So we pray and we remember that Yes there is fear. But there does not have to be hate. Yes there is isolation. But there does not have to be loneliness. Yes there is panic buying. But there does not have to be meanness. Yes there is sickness. But there does not have to be disease of the soul Yes there is even death. But there can always be a rebirth of love. Wake to the choices you make as to how to live now. Today, breathe. Listen, behind the factory noises of your panic The birds are singing again The sky is clearing, Spring is coming, And we are always encompassed by Love. Open the windows of your soul And though you may not be able to touch across the empty square, Sing. - Fr Richard Hendrick. - Photo by Cooper Brady Photography

10.01.2022 If you’d asked me a few years ago how I determined if I was healthy or not, I would have told you that I would look at how much I was eating and how often I was exercising. If I was eating lightly and exercising enough to ‘undo’ the weekend’s damage, I would have considered myself healthy. Over the last 5 years, my view on what it means to be in good health has changed. Don’t get me wrong, eating well and exercising are vital to good health, but they aren’t the whole picture.... If I’m feeling unwell, stressed, agitated or unhappy... I ask myself the following questions: Am I eating foods that nourish me? Is my exercise routine balanced - am I doing enough yin (calming) practices to balance the yang (energising)? Am I going to bed early and sleeping well? Have I had enough sunshine? Drunk enough water? Spent time in stillness / silence (device free)? Done something that challenges me, and something that brings me joy? Spent quality time with quality people? Usually, the reason for the dis-ease I’m experiencing lies in there somewhere. Our physical, mental and emotional bodies are not independent of one another - they in fact rely on one another. While each of these things may seem small on their own, they are each an important piece of the puzzle.

09.01.2022 ‘And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.’ ~ Anais Nin. This quote rang true for me years ago when I made the decision to leave my job and follow the wanderlusting desires of my heart... And today it shows up for me when I feel my heart bursting with a resounding YES in commencing my Chinese Medicine + Acupuncture studies ... Feeling V E R Y thankful for @stu_brady & my friends + family in showing their support for me in this new chapter... And incredibly grateful for the ZenThai Flow team and training just past, which shone a light on a part of me I needed to acknowledge, and ignited a fire in me I’ve been craving for some time In awe of this journey called life, filled with moments of self doubt, utter joy, frustration, confusion, limitless love and everything in between. I bow down

08.01.2022 Came across this #pemachodron quote yesterday and it really hit the nail on the head for me... . "When people start to meditate or to work with any kind of spiritual discipline, they often think that somehow they are going to improve, which is a sort of subtle agression against who they really are. It's a bit like saying, "If I jog, I'll be a much better person." "If I coud only get a nicer house, I'd be a better person." "If I could meditate and calm down, I'd be a better pe...rson."... . But loving-kindness - maitri - toward ourselves doesn't mean getting rid of anything. Maitri means that we can still be crazy after all these years. We can still be angry after all these years. We can still be timid or jealous or full of feelings of unworthiness. The point is not to try to throw ourselves away and become something better. It's about befriending who we are already. The ground of practice is you or me or whoever we are right now, just as we are. That's the ground, that's what we study, that's what we come to know with tremendous curiosity and interest. ~ Pema Chödrön, from her book, The Wisdom of No Escape. . by @the_roberto_gallery for @aliveyogi See more

08.01.2022 Profound friendship with yourself entails becoming friends with that which challenges us. - Pema Chodron . I believe that often people are mirrors, and we see projected back at us what we are putting out into the world. When you feel yourself triggered by someone, ask yourself - where do I need to look within? What work needs to be done here? Be kind to yourself in this process and allow yourself time and space (without distraction) to begin getting to work. For me, walking in nature and short meditations are great ways to process. . Change starts with you.

06.01.2022 I’ve spent many hours of late deep in the internet watching, listening, questioning, learning, growing (in more ways than one). I recognised myself feeling pretty heightened by the end of last week with information overload amongst other feels, so I took Saturday morning off for some alone time (away from social media and other sites), walked my dog, meditated, and practised with @gwynzenthai online. I’m super grateful to have had access over the past few months to some super... star teachers online; as my home practice has been my only practice, and has allowed me to grow in ways I wasn’t expecting. @aliveyogi (of course) is my number 1 go-to, @gwynzenthai via @shambhalashala for five element flows, @brookeellistonyoga for handstand play, and @larazilibowitz for some delicious movement alongside live music. If you’re feeling overwhelmed / lost in all the information / helpless / tired, please take some time and care for yourself. Rest is important too. You don’t have to do yoga; you could sit in the sun, practice breathing deeply, or spend time with someone who lifts you up. Big love to everyone right now and thank you for doing your best PS thank you @luveyoga for this beautiful mat. I LUVE it . PPS Time-lapses are really not a great representation of the practice, it was a slow and juicy class

05.01.2022 My classes in studio and on @aliveyogi are featuring much more traditional and modified cobra these days, and much less upward facing dog. The benefits are far greater down lower, and the shoulders are much safer too! Here’s to longevity and practicing safely... and also, long savasanas! After all, that’s what we’re all here for anyway, right? . by @the_roberto_gallery for @aliveyogi x

03.01.2022 These words by @simonsynergy have been circulating in my mind all week & fit perfectly in my yin class for the wood element tonight ~ 3 steps to living a good life: 1. Enjoy your life 2. Look after your body (because when you look after your body it’s much easier to enjoy your life)... 3. Help others enjoy their lives As we step into this new season of Spring ~ a time of growth and expansion... may we embody the qualities of wood: strength (to get through the challenges) determination (to continue in the direction of our dreams), adaptability (for when the seasons change) and flexibility (in body and mind - to be able to bend and sway with the wind in the storm). May we always remember that a beautiful forest is not formed by one tree alone, but many standing side by side... look out for your neighbour, and offer a branch to lean on if they need it.

02.01.2022 This time five years ago I was on a solo journey to India to undertake my first yoga teacher training. I had no real understanding of what yoga was beyond physical postures and self discipline; I just knew I wanted a challenge, to learn, to grow and to do it in a foreign land ~ and so India called. I’m so grateful to my 25yr old self for embarking on that adventure - one that has lasted well beyond the 30 day training and marked a solid turn in my path for the better.... Yoga has and continues to teach me so many lessons and practices that I will be forever integrating and re-integrating; it’s a lifelong practice that is continually evolving as I do. Big love and gratitude to each of my teachers along the way ~ ~ ~ what a gift it is to share this path with you. #internationalyogaday #motherganga

02.01.2022 Really excited for this series release on A Live Yogi. Sally Meredith - Elements Embodied is a beautiful teacher

02.01.2022 Testing out some ideas this morning for my upcoming series on @aliveyogi ~ this one’s for spine flexibility. Gosh it feels good to mooooove. . PS no, the class doesn’t actually go this fast - it goes for about 19.5 minutes longer than this video and at a muuuuch slower pace

01.01.2022 When the heart speaks, the mind finds it indecent to object ~ Milan Kundera.
