24.01.2022 The Julich-Brain is a probabilistic map of human brains that accounts for individual differences using a computational framework. Rather than generating a static PDF of a brain map, the Julich-Brain atlas is also dynamic, in that it continuously changes to incorporate more recent brain mapping results. #cytoarchitecture
21.01.2022 The polymer, known as a Pedot, has exactly the properties needed to interface electronic hardware with human tissue without causing scarring while also dramatically improving the performance of medical implants. We got the idea for this project because we were trying to interface rigid organic microelectrodes with the brain, but brains are made out of organic, salty, live materials," said Dr David Martin, who led the study.

17.01.2022 Japan’s SkyDrive, one of the country’s newest flying car startups, recently revealed the SD-XX, a sleek two-person eVTOL aircraft, about the size of a car, with a range of several tens of kilometers at 100 kmh (62 mph). https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pD0U56-vV8g
17.01.2022 Cancer, the world’s 2nd leading cause of death, is alarmingly prevalent in the farming region of Malwa in North-West India. The region has seen such a fast growing number of cancer patients that it is known as the Cancer Capital of India. Studies indicate excessive use of pesticides on food crops as the leading cause. As a result, farmers and their families live in a cesspool of toxicity that also contaminates the water they drink and bathe in. The Acharya Tulsi Regional Can...cer Hospital in Bikaner aims to provide underprivileged patients with free diagnosis, medication, overnight accommodations, and food. However, the hospital receives over one thousand patients a day and only has seventeen doctors and a constant bed shortage. The filmmakers at Studio Birthplace were so moved by their experience in India, that they created a fund to help provide healthcare for cancer patients living below the poverty line in North-West India. In addition, the donations raised will fund education fees and expenses for Sapna & her siblings for many years to come. A portion of every Flags sale, stream and video will also be donated to this fund. We invite you to join us in assisting cancer patients by making a donation at: https://www.studiobirthplace.com/cancer-assistance
17.01.2022 Here... we... GO! "The past decade has seen various cycles of hype around the field of neurotech. Several companies created headsets that could read certain types of brainwaves. These were equivalent to commercial versions of an electroencephalogram or EEG machine, but they never reached mainstream success. Johnson said that’s because an EEG reading of the brain is like hovering over New York City at 30,000 feet and trying to listen to a conversation. So with Kernel, the comp...any has gone a different route." #brainmachineinterface #neurotechnology #lifeextension #neuroscience
16.01.2022 In my research I try to answer questions about why the nervous system evolved the way it did, a field known as neuroecology. I am also interested in how we can adapt/evolve/transcend this design. Society is full of assumptions and expectations; stories or beliefs that the brain accepts in order to function more efficiently. There are societal rules and expectations that go against or inhibit our natural drive (evolutionary design) and as we might expect this is destructive t...o the health of our organism and it conflates social issues. The challenge then is to find the errors in the algorithm so that society can run its basic function of security. We have selfish genes that drive our selfish behaviour in order to satisfy our basic needs. If we satisfy these desires and animalistic facets of our nature with a functional society, our desires become more sophisticated. The labels we use only exist because we made them up and agreed to call it that. Reality is a fictitious reflection of our ancestral anguish but it is also what we accept it to be. If we choose not to tolerate something, we change our reality. We don’t see the world as it is, we see it as we are. Without access to knowledge and the ability to ask effective questions, we are vulnerable to manipulation. Without recognising what is relevant or how to apply information, our capacity for choice is constrained. We should never be satisfied with the information that we have. Ignorance is ignorance, not bliss. If truth brings us stress then we need to redefine our relationship with stress. Stress allows us to move the needle forward but without balance we back track or burn out. In eastern #philosophy there are two distinct yet complimentary forces of nature, yin (masculine) and yang (feminine). According to this, the masculine attitude has exhausted our species with chronic stress and we should embrace the feminine in order to rebalance our future. Power should be used to elevate others rather than to control them. I’m excited by developing tools that enhance our #cognitive capacity without exhausting our willpower; through the tapestry of our being. Let old patterns perish and replace them with the new. @ Move the Needle See more

15.01.2022 2020 adding a distal fibula fracture to its alternative plans... I asked dad what he thought the upside to his Parkinson’s was today and one response he gave was that he has been able to appreciate the little things. He was recently walking through the parklands in the light rain and noticed the scent of flora, particularly the volatile oils released from the treesand that was enough. Thanks to everyone who adapted their plans and gave me warmth today. @ St Andrews Hospital Inc
15.01.2022 The United Launch Alliance Atlas V 541 rocket carrying NASA’s Mars Perseverance rover and Ingenuity helicopter is ready for launch tomorrow! - Launch window: July 30 - Aug. 15, 2020 [two hour launch window with 80% favourable weatherThurs July 30 at 9:20 pm ACST Adelaide time]. - This is a HUGE engineering feat hence the rover name, Perseverance! - The Mars 2020 mission will seek signs of ancient life and collect rock and soil samples for possible return to Earth. - It will... land in February 2021 in the Jezero Crater. - One Mars year is 687 Earth days which is the duration of the mission. - The objective for the Ingenuity helicopter is a technology demonstration for the first flight in thin Martian air! - The atmosphere of the red planet is 1% as thick as Earth making it more challenging to generate lift. The drone weighs just 1.8kg and has counter-rotating blades that spin 2,400rpm. #mars2020 #CountdownToMars #perseverence #robotics #autonomousvehicle
10.01.2022 The homeobox is a DNA sequence that is conserved across many species and contained within the Hox gene (the gene name was derived from homeobox). In studies on larvae these genes were only expressed during metamorphosis. Mutations of the Hox gene can result in body parts or limbs evolved in the wrong place on the body. #genetics #odonata #anatomy
08.01.2022 Boston Dynamics opened commercial sales of Spot, its quadruped robot that can climb stairs and traverse rough terrain. The announcement marks a couple of milestones for the company founded in 1992. It’s the first time businesses can purchase a Boston Dynamics robot directly. It’s also the company’s first online sales offering. The robots to be released include (by time): today (Spot), tomorrow (Handle), and the future (Atlas).
