25.01.2022 I'll be jumping on over the weekend to answer your sleep questions! Ask away in the comments!
25.01.2022 A baby and toddler's body temperature fluctuates throughout the day. As they go off to sleep, their body temperature drops. Include a nice warm bath in their wind down routine and what happens when they get out? They cool down. This temperature change is mimicking what is going on in their circadian rhythm and is therefore going to help them drift off to sleep.
25.01.2022 My latest trick. I was out and about with my 11 week old baby and she was due for a nap. No swaddle? No problems... Simply pop their arms into their zip-up onesie to act as a swaddle.
23.01.2022 This is my 12 week old daughter responding to pink* noise. I even switched it on-off-on during the video to provide evidence. Perfect demonstration for just how powerful it is for triggering a baby's calming reflexes. And why wouldn't it when it mimics the sound they heard when in the womb as all the blood rushed through the placenta and uterus. However, for this to work, the volume does need to be similar to that of a vacuum cleaner. *Pink noise is slightly different to white noise but just as effective. My husband can't tell the difference but I much prefer pink noise.

21.01.2022 If you have never utilised a wind down routine before, you may benefit greatly by writing it down. This cements it in your mind and helps you to remain consistent as you become familiar with implementing the wind down routine. I've included an example for what a wind down routine might look like: Bath Give goodnight kisses and cuddles to other people in household Go into room and read 3 books... Place baby/toddler into cot Sing a song (for continuity, use same song/s) Say "goodnight" and "I love you's" Blow a kiss from the door See more
21.01.2022 Did you know that there are certain times of the day that make falling asleep easier for your baby? These times of day are called biological sleep windows and occur when your baby's body temperature and hormones are at optimum levels for falling asleep.
18.01.2022 When swaddling, it's important to remember to wrap your baby in a way that allows them to bring their legs up and then fall into the natural frog like position as pictured below. Swaddling too tight around the hips forces their legs straight down and pressed together, and may increase the risk of late-onset hip dysplasia. If the traditional muslin wrap isn't your style then there are plenty of options out there. My favourites are Woombie, Ollie Swaddle, Mum2Mum Swaddle, Ergo Cocoon and Halo SleepSack. If you need any help finding the best one for your baby, then feel free to get in touch so I can guide you!
13.01.2022 A nice firm arms-down swaddle, some white noise (via phone) and a shusher = peacefully sleeping baby!
13.01.2022 The winner for my draw is...

05.01.2022 Get excited! This weekend I'll be sharing some tips that are specific to wind down routines. A wind down routine consists of a series of non-stimulating activities that are carried out consistently before each sleep time. I find 10-15 minutes is ideal. I recommend them because babies and toddlers thrive on knowing what's coming next, so the wind down routine prepares them for sleep by giving them cues that it's time to quieten down. It also helps in bringing their mind and body into a relaxed state, making it easier for them to fall asleep. You can get creative with what to include in a wind down routine, as long as the activities you choose are of minimal stimulation. For example, reading books with your baby or toddler is a wonderfully relaxing activity to use in your wind down routine.
