25.01.2022 LATE WINTER GARDENING Spring is just around the corner and its one of the last opportunities we have to get out into the garden to do some really essential jobs like pruning and maintenance. Below are 3 things we recommend for your garden coming into spring:... The first chore is pruning. Be bold, leaving only an open framework of three or four main stems. Spray these and the surrounding soil with lime sulfur to clean up pests and diseases. The second is a spring clean. With the wild Perth weather, there is a good chance your garden took some damage. Whether its from fallen branches, storm damage or eroded paths, a quick clean and a bit of maintenance will do your garden wonders coming into spring. Thirdly... plant your perennials. While it may be too chilly to plant annuals yet, autumn and winter are the best times to plant perennials. Planting them during the wetter season when they are dormant allows them to begin to establish a root system before they send out leaves and flowers. Get to it team!

25.01.2022 WARNING - Toxic poisoning If any of you have dogs and have Yuccas tree’s , please remove the yuccas from your property or ensure your canine or pet can not get... near them. Yuccas are not only toxic but poisonous to canines. Every second day, I have been at the vets hoping to save our boy as well as his man hood. He is on the highest form of medication and scanning his testicles every second day. To make sure the blood flow is ok. The cells at this stage are good and with much luck, will make a full recovery. Yuccas create toxic poisonous shock, that creates an infection. This is deadly and can result in losing your canine, should this not treated or attended to straight away. This is the result of the infection, that spread throughout his whole body and also into the testicles that caused major swelling. For those that look at this and say lose the man hood. Once toxic shock kicks in from the plant, the infection and the swelling. If we were to operate on him, he would bleed out on the table and I would lose my boy. Many sites will only tell you about the affects of a canine eating the plant and how toxic it is to canines, cats and horses. Humans can have a allergic reaction to the plant. The articles do not tell you how toxic and how quick the poisoning travels through blood stream when being cut or deeply pricked by one. My boy is from a direct deep prick of the tree ,into the body - creates toxic poisoning straight into the blood stream. First signs of poisoning is - vomiting , the runs (loose stool), dehydration and lethargic followed by high temps. - Weakness, Drooling , Muscle tremors and seizures Here is some of the list of plants toxic to canines - Agapanthus (Roots) Aloe (Leaves) Angels Trumpet (All parts) Apricots (Stem, bark and seed kernels) Arum Lily (Spine and bulbs) Asparagus Fern (All parts) Avocado (Fruit, leaves, bark, seed) Azalea (All parts) Bird of Paradise (Fruit, seeds) Caladium (All parts) Cape Lilac (Berries) Clematis (All parts) Cotoneaster glaucophyllus (Fruit) Cycads (Seeds) Daffodils (All parts but especially bulbs) Daphne (Berries, bark, leaves) Dumb Cane Dieffenbachia (All parts) Foxgloves (Leaves, seeds, flowers) Frangipani (Sap) Gladioli (Bulbs) Hellebore (All parts) Hyacinth (Bulbs, leaves, flowers) Hydrangea (Leaves, stems) Ivy (All parts of most varieties) Jonquil (Bulbs) Kalanchoe (All parts) Lantana (All parts) Lily (All parts) Lily of the Valley (All parts) Lobelia (All parts) Macadamia (Nuts) Fruit Salad Plant Monstera (Unripe fruit) Morning Glory (Seeds) Nightshade (All parts) Oleander (All parts, including dead leaves) Onion (Bulbs) Ornamental chilli (Fruit) Philodendron (All parts) Poinsettia (Leaves, flowers) Rhododendron (All parts) Rhubarb (Leaves) Savin Juniper (All parts) Sweet Pea (Seeds, pods) Tomato Plants (Leaves) Tulip (Bulbs) Umbrella Plant (All parts) Wandering Jew (Leaves, stems, sap) Wisteria (Seeds, pods) Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow (All parts) also known as Brunfelsia pauciflora Yucca (All parts)

22.01.2022 Uses For Wood Chips Lumberjacks WA is Perth's most trusted Arborist. Over this time, we have to come to learn of several great uses for wood chips. Whether youre just using a small pile of wood chips in your back yard, or an entire truck load of wood chips for paving paths, we are sure there is a use for you!... Here are 4 main uses for wood chips 1. Used as mulch. This is the most common uses of wood chips. Not only do wood chips help the plants retain water and keep them warm, but they also serve another purpose which is to restrict the amount of weeds shooting up through the soil, along with slowly releasing nutrients over time as they break down. To use wood chips effectively in your garden, simply spread some across the soil. 2. Fire kindling. Not only can wood chips provide a source of fuel for the soil, but they are also great at feeding fires. You can try using old, dried-out wood chips to help create a fire. They tend to burn well and you wont need to spend money on kindling. 3. Paths. How many times have you walked through a path in the park and your shoes have been left muddy and dirty? This happens all the time when walking on dirt paths. By spreading the wood chips over the path, you can provide a walking area which wont completely dirty your shoes. 4. BBQ Smoking. Smoking chips are most commonly used for smoked BBQ cooking. They are made from small scraps and shavings of wood. Lightweight and easy to handle, they ignite and burn quickly, which makes them ideal for all kinds of short or slow cooking on the BBQ. More than often the die hard BBQ fans create their own smoking chips blended with their own flavours.

22.01.2022 Awesome, professional and prompt. No tree too big or challenging. From quoting to clean up this team nails it. Very happy, thanks so much

17.01.2022 WILD WEATHER WARNING A huge part of WA including Perth has been put on a severe weather warning today with wind gusts up to 125km/h set to accompany heavy rain, damaging surf and possible thunderstorms. So far the overnight winds have already brought down large trees with one blocking two lanes on Leach Highway this morning.... If you have been affected by the wild weather then contact our team and we will happy to assist where possible. Forget the rest, call the best. 17.01.2022 HEDGE SHAPING Hedges are one of the most versatile of garden features. They can be used as wind breaks, to define spaces or form fences. However, they can also become quite neglected. Below is a job we carried out for a customer recently in Subiaco.... We shaped and boxed large ficus hedges around boundary of the property, immediately improving the appearance of the property and garden area. It is the perfect weather to carry out hedge trimming as the weather is still cool. Trimming your hedges during summer or hot weather will result in new growth being burnt off. 14.01.2022 Did you know home owners and occupiers are responsible for ensuring trees on their property stay clear of powerlines all year round. Tenants should check to see if tree maintenance is covered in their rental agreement or if their landlord is responsible. Trees and powerlines are a very dangerous combination. When trees come into contact with powerlines, they can cause power failures, bushfires and serious accidents.... If you are not aware of the Australian guidelines of working near power lines before commencing work, then there can be very big consequences. Lumberjacks WA is fully aware of the safe distances and guidelines that must be followed when working near service wires and live power lines. Every tree company should be familiar with the Electricity Act Regulation and Code of Practice for Personnel Electrical Safety for Vegetation Control Work Near Live Power Lines. 12.01.2022 WILD WEATHER A wild wind weather warning remains in place. In the metropolitan area Garden Island and Ocean Reef recorded wind gusts of 76km/h and 70km/h respectively.... 12.01.2022 Have you checked your fence line lately? We recently cleared up a fence line which had deadwood falling onto and damaging cars parked on the other side. The Local Government Act gives councils the power to take action against property owners in the area whose trees are unsafe to nearby people or property. ... To get local council intervention, you need an arborist to provide a written report saying the tree is structurally unsound or potentially dangerous. If your local council finds from the report that the tree endangers neighbouring people or property and needs to be made safe, they can issue your neighbour with a notice to fix the problem. You should consider speaking to your neighbour first before taking these measures. Contact us for a FREE Assessment Today. 0481 114 103 Forget the rest, call the best. 06.01.2022 Spring is the best time to get out in the garden. It is also the start of the growing season for most Australian Lawn types. Here are 2 simple maintenance steps you can do to set your lawn up for spring and summer.... & In early spring, apply a weed killer to remove those pesky weeds then follow up a few weeks later with lawn fertiliser to keep the grass growing strong and prevent new weeds from popping through. One of the healthiest things you can do for a spring lawn is to aerate it. It helps increase the amount of air, water and nutrients getting to the soil, which strengthens grass roots and help create a healthier lawn. So get out that garden fork and start stabbing! 05.01.2022 On average mulch should last 2-3 years however you should also watch out for the signs of early decomposition, such as wet, soggy mulch or garden areas that arent draining properly.
