23.01.2022 It's almost 'welcome to Term 3 time' and we want to confirm with all our families that school is going ahead as planned from this coming Monday. We are grateful to be living in Ballarat and not experiencing the additonal lockdown that Melbourne and North Melbourne residents are managing. Additonal cleaning and sanitising will continue to be in place at Lumen, and we will update you as any additional information comes to hand. We hope you have all had a good fortnight. We are looking forward to a great term of learning.

16.01.2022 Did we know that kids under the age of 13 make up about 20% of Ballarat’s population and in 2020 there are more than 20,000 kids in our city? The Ballarat City Council is consulting with our city's kids to hear about what is important to them in the place they live. https://youtu.be/0AcURX4a2pc Check out the council website to help your child/ren have their say! https://mysay.ballarat.vic.gov.au/childrens-consultation-20... 15.01.2022 A tribute to all the dad's and special men in our children's (and our) lives.
14.01.2022 The weather may have been a bit average for our first two days of the new school term but that has not stopped us from having a most excellent time reconnecting with friends, classmates and school staff. Our school is full of life and energy. Again we thank our families for their amazing efforts and support over the Remote Learning periods this year. The data from this week’s Reading and Numeracy Assessment Interviews has shown excellent growth for most students, and has provided teaching teams with very clear information about next learning steps. Term 4 + the Lumen learning community = we ‘got’ this! #Lumenlegends #covidcantkeepusdown
14.01.2022 **URGENT IMPORTANT WARNING** Good afternoon everyone, Please take a moment to read and consider the following information.... Many thanks to the team at www.informandempower.com.au Inform and Empower. The eSafety Commissioner has today confirmed distressing reports about an explicit video circulating social media platforms. eSafety has contacted social media companies about the reports and will continue working with them to monitor the situation. Reports indicate that the video has been reshared on platforms including (but not limited to) Tik Tok, Snapchat Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. To increase the likelihood of children opening the link it has alarmingly also been edited and reshared to begin with general content (images of cats) before switching to the footage of a bearded man sitting in front of a computer. What parents should be doing immediately? Increase supervision of all screen time Strictly no devices in bedrooms. It is safest to keep devices in communal areas. Open up a conversation to encourage your children to come to you if they see something disturbing online (see link below for ideas about what to say, particularly how to prepare kids before an issue occurs) Remind your children that they always have 24/7 access to support via Kids Helpline (www.kidshelpline.com.au) Don’t hesitate to seek advice from a professional (e.g. doctor, psychologist, school counsellor) should you have any concerns about your child's mental health, particularly with regard to suicide risk issues. Further information: What to do when your child sees something disturbing online We are encouraging people who encounter this content to report it to the social media platform they’ve seen it on and to eSafety at www.esafety.gov.au/report/illegal-harmful-content. Parents, please consider this current issue as further evidence as to why it is not appropriate or safe for primary school age children to be on social media. Be safe everyone.
13.01.2022 A fantastic Grade 6 Camp is being had by all! We are so very happy and grateful that our Grade 6s are enjoying this well deserved Grade 6 tradition at the end of a very different final year of Primary School for them all. The feedback from the camp staff is that they are a very impressive bunch of students, amazing manners, excellent attitude and fantastic involvement. Well done kids, you really are Lumen legends! A big thank you to our Senior Team for all their efforts in making this camp a reality.
11.01.2022 Good evening everyone... Re. COVID-19 Pandemic. Please find attached a brief summary re organisation at Lumen for the week ahead. Please check Skoolbag App or P.A.M for a letter that outlines the information we currently have in greater detail. In a most unusual year let our gifts of community, kindness and calm help us navigate the continuing unexpected twists and turns. Take care, be well, be safe.
10.01.2022 Happy Lumen Christi Day 2020 August 6th - The Feast of the Transfiguration. We'd like to invite you all to find a moment to join with us in prayer. We'd like to express our gratitude to Mrs Lev for her leadership, organisation, filming hours and drive in seeing this prayer prepared, and to Belinda for her tech skills in pulling it together visually so beautifully. Special thanks also to Rex and Bella Hardware for recording our school song...we know you’ll love it!... As we reflect on the Lumen story during this special anniversary we take some time to thank Barry James for donating the land on which our school was built, Father Barry Ryan, our first parish priest and Fiona Tonkin, our first principal for their vision and energies in creating a new Catholic school in Delacombe all those years ago. We acknowledge the contributions of students, families and staff over the past 30 years. Each person has helped to shape our school and community, and made it the special place it is. We had such plans to celebrate 30 years of Lumen life and light together. To reminisce about the past and envision our future. Instead we leave you with an opportunity to reflect on what it means for you to 'be the light of Christ in the world'... what is it about your words, actions and relationships with others that sees this light shine from you. Enjoy being led in prayer by our children and staff. Happy Lumen Christi Day everyone!
09.01.2022 As we made the transition back to learning face to face with all of our students, the Year 3/4 Learning Community wanted to create a lasting memory for future students at Lumen Christi of our time during isolation. The Year 3/4s wrote letters to students in the Year 2030, writing about what life was like during 2020...so many things happened! We chose to bury a time capsule on our school grounds with our letters, toilet paper and some hand sanitiser! We are so proud our learners during remote learning and so proud and grateful for returning to face to face in the last weeks of this term. We wonder what the students of 2030 will think when they open up our time capsule in the future?
08.01.2022 Hello April 1 and our final day of Term One! Here's to a wonderful day of walking, fundraising and good times with each other. #Lumenlegends #caritasaustralia #bemore

06.01.2022 Living in the Light of Christ, Lumen Christi school song by Michael Mangan and performed by Lumen students August 2020. A big thank you to Rex and Bella Hardware again for their excellent production of this clip.
06.01.2022 CYBER SAFETY WEBINAR OPPORTUNITY: Early this year we engaged 'Inform and Empower' to lead us through a cyber safety information evening. Both Martin and Carley were excellent at sharing relevant cyber safety information, advice and possible actions with those that attended this evening. We would have no hesitation in recommending this webinar to our school community, in particular those parents who were unable to attend the session we provided as a school in Term One. An adde...d bonus at this time is that the $10 ticket price will be donated to Kidshelpline. https://www.informandempower.com.au/ https://www.facebook.com/informandempower/ See more

03.01.2022 It may be wintery and COVID restrictions may still be in place yet we still have some Lumen traditions to enjoy this term. Next Friday is the begining of Book Week 2020 and we are celebrating with an opportunity for children to dress as a favourite book character. This year's Book Week theme is 'Curious Creatures, WIld Minds'. Hopefully next year we will be able to enjoy the parade together, this week may look like some shared photos.
02.01.2022 Crazy Sock Day is here! Looking forward to seeing all those colourful, wacky, weird and crazy socks. A gold coin for our Cambodian neighbours #Catholicmission #shareourresources Let's sock it to poverty Lumen legends!
02.01.2022 Good morning everyone. Just a reminder about end of term organisation for Friday's pickups.
01.01.2022 Safety on the way to and from school: It is wonderful to see so many of our students walking and riding their bikes to and from school each day. We ask that families and students discuss the safest routes to use, particularly when crossing some of the very busy roads in our neighbourhood. The Glenelg Highway with its 80 km/hour speed limit is a potentially unsafe crossing point and we would encourage students and their families to identify the safest places for crossing to occur.
01.01.2022 This week, our Lumen community is off on an adventure! Virtual excursion week is upon us and we are excited to share our learning with you all! https://youtu.be/3dOcvMRZB_s
