22.01.2022 In our modern society, Myopia, also known as short-sightedness or near-sightedness, is becoming a serious public health issue. This is a common condition that causes blurred distance vision, usually starting in childhood and progressively worsens as the child grows. Aside from reduced sight, myopia is associated with higher risks of potentially blinding eye conditions such as retinal detachments, myopic macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataracts. Alarmingly, it is estimated that more than 50% of the world will have myopia by 2050 if the current rates don't change. 03.01.2022 In these trying and uncertain times, we sincerely hope that you are all keeping safe and well (and sane during these times of social distancing). In order to ensure the safety of our patients and their families, we have made some temporary changes to our services. We have postponed all non-urgent eye examinations until further notice. We are now available 9am to 10pm for urgent emergency care. Where possible, telehealth services are offered for a small private fee, and an in... person consultation is offered only if required, which is bulk billed through Medicare. If you experience any of the following symptoms: - sudden blurring or change in vision - flashing lights - spots/shadows in vision - patchy vision or loss of a portion of your field of vision - eye pain - red/sore/itchy/irritated eyes - headaches - discharge from eye/s - light sensitivity - double vision or droopy eyelid/s please call us on 0490 543 437 or 0490 443 599 or email us on [email protected] for advice on the most appropriate action. If you experience an eye emergency outside of these hours, it is recommended that you contact the Sydney Eye Hospital on (02) 9382 7111. Additionally, you can call us if you find yourself unable to work or function due to lost or broken glasses or contact lenses. Orders for contact lenses can still be placed, and we will send them directly to your address. If you have any other concerns or questions, please feel free to contact us.
