23.01.2022 Pigmentation - Over the next few weeks I'll touch on different types of pigmentation because I believe education is key. Melasma is extremely common in women. Also known as Chloasma. It usually appears on the upper cheeks, upper lip, forehead and chin of women 20-50years of age. Though causes are unknown it is thought to be primarily related to; sun exposure, external hormone changes like contraceptive medicine and internal hormone changes during pregnancy.... Prevention is mostly aimed towards sun protection (Hello SPF) and Hydroquinone creams. Hydroquinone over the counter can only be bought at over the counter pharmacies (comment below if you want a recommendation) for a 2% or less concentration cream. Or can be prescribed by a dermatologist at a higher concentration, however I believe starting low (over the counter) is best for your overall skin health.
