19.01.2022 Drinks with Andrew Leslie this Friday the 10th from 6.30 for those in the ‘hood’. Lunch Partners, Sydney, the communications collective, are launching the next in their ‘art@lunch’ series with new work from the renown and celebrated artist Andrew Leslie. Andrew Leslie, Artist.... Since the early nineties Andrew Leslie has been working on a project that investigates the politics of vision and the language of seeing through the relationship between perception and the construction of space. As a major part of this he has developed a type of wall-based installation that uses constructed objects to project ephemeral images onto the supporting wall. This has included site-specific works where the wall itself `disappears’ and volume, physical presence and space are at the same time evoked and denied. By destabilizing the certainty of everyday perceptions Leslie reminds the viewer of the unreliability of vision and hence the fallibility of perception. The lunch@art series is curated by Karen Brown, Curator We are very fortunate to have the quality of artists such as Andrew showing new work in the art@lunch series. Having worked closely with visual artists on publications such as Art & Australia, and now at Photofile and Art Monthly Australia, my passion has been to facilitate fruitful collaborations within the pages of a magazine; here I can curate in three-dimensional form in the wonderful Lunch Partners Space. Darryn Devlin, Lunch Partner; In designing Lunch Partners, I wanted to create a space that encouraged a dispirate and delightful mix of people and uses. The art@lunch series curated by the talented Ms Brown helps fulfill this promise. Ultimately, at the heart of our Lunch Partners philosophy, is a belief that no matter how much technology invades and persuades our lives, it is an empathy and understanding of people that is our business that is the crucial differentiator; therefore if if you can’t sit down and break bread with someone, then they shouldn’t be your client, your co-worker, your consumer,or most importantly your ’artist in showing’.
