23.01.2022 Over the next 3 weeks the students will be completing formative and summative assessment. Last day of learning for the term is Friday September 18. To enable students to have the maximum amount of time to complete these important points in the learning cycle they need to be at school everyday where possible.

23.01.2022 The school has had 2 sightings of snakes. When students are at school we pull a lock down drill where students are confined to a classroom until the school grounds are deemed as safe. The school needs to operate under the guidelines set out by the department when dealing with snakes. They are as follows: As with all Australian native animals, snakes are protected under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 (Qld) and cannot lawfully be killed or taken from the wild and held in capt...ivity. Most snake bites occur when people are attempting to catch or kill a snake. All staff, students and the school community are reminded not to attempt to move, catch or kill a snake. A licensed snake catcher (holder of a Damage Mitigation Permit) is required to relocate snakes. All principals are to establish and communicate how snakes are managed on their school site including: reminders not to attempt to catch, kill or move a snake who to tell if there is a snake on site and contact details of qualified snake catchers snake bite first aid strategies including trained first aiders, location of first aid kit, etc. It is recognised that some school locations have persistent issues with snakes and the primary concern is for student and staff safety. Quick access to external qualified snake catchers can be limited by location or demand. In some circumstances, the principal may deem it necessary to train an employee to effectively manage snakes as a part of the school’s overall risk management approach. This position is voluntary and the person must hold a Damage Mitigation Permit (removal and relocation of wildlife) (DMP). All staff have first aid certificates and kits are readily available throughout the school buildings. Additional procedures the school has put into place are that all students are to be escorted when needing to leave the classroom by a staff member. During break time, one staff person will watch the students and the other will scan and monitor the play area for snakes. The school runs drill for snakes so students know what they are to do in the event of sighting a snake. Keeping students and staff safe is a high priority of all the staff at the school. Please contact the school if you have any concern.
