18.01.2022 Palm Sunday. This morning St Andrew’s joined with our neighbours from All Saints Anglican Church to commemorate Jesus’ entry to Jerusalem. We had a joint rite, blessing of palms and a sermon delivered by Rev Canon Bruce Maughan from All Saints. We moved outside singing: ... All glory, laud and honour To thee, Redeemer, King, To whom the lips of children Made sweet hosannas ring... The congregations then returned to their respective churches to continue their services. The St Andrew’s congregation sang a capella today.

16.01.2022 Who am I? 13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, Who do people say that the Son of Man is? 14 And they said, Some say John the Baptist, but others Elijah, and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets. 15 He said to them, But who do you say that I am? 16 Simon Peter answered, You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered him, Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For flesh and blood has not rev...Continue reading

13.01.2022 Sermon Reformation Sunday, St Andrew’s If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36 How can I be saved? How can I avoid the punishment of hell? Am I going to purgatory or heaven? This kind of questions were central for almost everyone in the late middle ages, and these questions were tangible and essential for Luther and other Reformers. The answer to these questions, of course, was and is that we are saved by faith alone, solely by the grace of God....Continue reading

06.01.2022 Change of mind, change of heart 21 Jesus left that place and went away to the district of Tyre and Sidon. 22 Just then a Canaanite woman from that region came out and started shouting, Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is tormented by a demon. 23 But he did not answer her at all. And his disciples came and urged him, saying, Send her away, for she keeps shouting after us. 24 He answered, I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 25 But sh...Continue reading

04.01.2022 What a delight to see and hear this! The words for 'The Church in Covid' were written by Pastor Gudrun (in Icelandic) but the tune is very familiar to us in Australia. Pastor Gudrun worshipped with us at St Andrew's earlier this year (before churches closed) and was part of our forum 'Some women are theologians' on 8 March 2020.

04.01.2022 Finding life From that time on, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and undergo great suffering at the hands of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, God forbid it, Lord! This must never happen to you. But he turned and said to Peter, Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; for you are setting your mind not on divine things ...Continue reading
