19.01.2022 Check out the new comet discovered by an ASV member who lives in Swan Hill. He spotted it from publicly available information from one of the satellites that monitors the Sun. The best info is this page: http://astro.vanbuitenen.nl/comet/2020F8 It's currently about Mag 8 and should be visible a few hours before dawn in the East or a little South of East.

18.01.2022 Better check the cloud forecast.

14.01.2022 Something to look forward to.

12.01.2022 The Latrobe Valley Astronomical Society will not host public observing or astro education sessions during the current CORVID 19 (coronavirus) pandemic. Such events involve the sharing of eyepieces and other equipment. This week's members' only observatory visit has also been postponed. ... At this stage, the society will continue to hold its monthly meetings, although this will be subject to advice from health professionals.

08.01.2022 How is your viewing going during isolation? I got up at 5 this morning and watched about a Starlink of about 40 satellites pass overhead, and also spotted about a dozen meteors from the Lyrid Shower, before heading out to my driveway for Anzac Day stand to.

04.01.2022 Here’s hoping for clear skies and excellent viewing wherever you may be isolated.

02.01.2022 A chance to make your astronomy count. https://www.abc.net.au//count-stars-in-the-south/12166374

01.01.2022 Hi! I am giving a talk on Black Holes, gravity and General relativity in May at the Latrobe Valley Astronomical Society monthly meeting at Wirilda near Tyers -... I am keen to pitch this to the absolute beginner/"lay-person" as well as provide something interesting for those with more knowledge about these topics. The title I am toying with is "Black Holes don't suck!...much" If anyone has specific questions about these topics, please feel free to reply here and I will try to include a response in the talk, or if I have time. Also if you have some interesting information about the above topics that you think might be of general interest, feel free also to respond. See more
