23.01.2022 Sharing some amazing news with everyone! The wonderful, talented and supportive leader of our team, Associate Professor John House, received a huge honour. He was awarded Bovine Practitioner of the Year by the Australian Cattle Veterinarians. We are a little bit proud (ok a lot a bit) and glad the whole country knows what we know every day...that he is an extraordinary ruminant clinician and dedicate teacher/ mentor. Congratulations, John!... : Luke Ingenhoff

18.01.2022 Ruminant of the Week!! The Angora Goat Did you know the Angora goats were first imported into Australia in 1832 and 1833. They came from M Polonceaus stud in France to the property of the Riley family of Raby, New South Wales. Yes...just down the road from the clinic.Pure bred Angoras were imported from Ottoman Empire in subsequent years up to 1873, to properties in New South Wales, Victoria, and later South Australia. We also like them cause their babies look like Muppet Babies. And fun fact..when their coat is shorn...the product is call Mohair...not wool.

17.01.2022 Welcome Dr Sam Rowe to the team! Sam grew up in an indigenous community on Groote Eylandt, NT. His was inspired to become a vet at an early age when a vet from Darwin visited the island for a spey clinic. Sam is highly skilled and after he graduated from James Cook University he worked in a dairy practice located in the Atherton Tablelands, QLD. During that time he completed his Masters of Veterinary Medicine through Massey University and sat board exams with the American Boa...rd of Veterinary Practitioners in dairy practice. Sam then moved to Minnesota to do a PhD under Sandra Godden in applied veterinary epidemiology. He was involved in conducting field trials and observational studies to evaluate practical and sustainable ways for dairy farmers to reduce antibiotic use. Sam has a keen interest in the management of diseases on dairy farms with an emphasis on mastitis and antibiotic stewardship as well as applied epidemiology, causal inference and biostatistics. Sam has hit the ground running and you may see him on our next visit to your farm.

16.01.2022 A little fun shine and rainbows today at the LVS

15.01.2022 Worms!! Worms!! Worms!!! Have you checked your pet goats or sheep for internal parasites, recently?? Gastrointestinal parasites can lead to ill thrift, scouring, anaemia and worst case scenario death. So not something to ingnore. Recent rain and warm, humid weather can rapidly increase infective worm larva on your paddock. Which can increase worm burdens in your pet goats and sheep. ... Contact one of our vets at the LVS regarding Faecal Egg Counts (FEC) and worm control programs.

14.01.2022 Camden Show is coming soon...love hearing these stories about the people that make this community a wonderful place to live and work!

13.01.2022 Social distancing is the key to reducing the spread of Covid -19! So, if you are not sure what 1.5 meters is...lets put into terms we can all understand! Please keep us safe when we come to see your animals! One helper and lets keep 1 cow length apart! Thank you! And if you are sick please inform our staff before we arrive so we can attend your animal and keep safe! #stayhomestaysafe #socialdistancingworks... #inthisfigthtogether See more

13.01.2022 Antibiotic resistance is a major risk to human and animal health. Here at the LVS, we are teaching our veterinary students antimicrobial stewardship to help combat this growing risk. Here are a few rules of thumb for the correct use of antibiotics in livestock: 1. Antibiotics cannot be prescribed by one of our vets without a consultation and valid client patient relationship. 2. We may need to examine more than one animal if there is a herd outbreak . 3. Antibiotic...s are only helpful in the presence of a bacterial infection . 4. Selection of the appropriate antimicrobial may require additional testing or culturing. 5. Please follow all instructions and administer antimicrobials as directed on the label. An incorrect dose, incorrect route or not finishing the course can reduce effectiveness of the antibiotic, cause unwanted residues and lead to resistant bacteria. 6. Ensure that you follow all meat and milk withholding periods to reduce antimicrobial residue in the food chain. We can all work together reduce antimicrobial use and resistance as well as improve herd health.

12.01.2022 Social distancing when we come on farm is so important to prevent the spread of COVID-19 ...but doesnt stop at the gate! Some handy tips when you dont have a ruler. 1. Social Distancing - keep 1.5 meters apart. Pro tip this is the length of an adult Holstein Friesian milking cow 2. Wear a face mask - if you cannot social distance but keep at least a sheep length apart.... 3. Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 30 seconds (or to the tune of Old MacDonald Had A Farm). And in a pinch use some hand sanitizer! Moovuloos! I think ewe all have it!! Keep safe out there!! Cheers from the Team!!

11.01.2022 Stay inside! Wash your hands!

07.01.2022 Wouldnt a goat be the perfect gift for under the Christmas tree? Bahahaha!! NO! Lolol! Not unless you want your tree, your ornaments and all things wrapped in paper eaten!

07.01.2022 We had some excitement last night at the LVS with the birth of these lovely goat kids. Triplets!! This lovely doe, Shirla needed a little assistance with the delivery of her overdue kids. Two little girls (does) and a billy were delivered safely after she was induced to kid. Amazingly, this threesome worked out the most efficient way to get to the milk bar in no time. Welcome to the world little ones. You are all super cute. : Georgina Cameron

04.01.2022 Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers out there from the team at Livestock Veterinary Service! Thank ewe for filling our lives with love and care! We appreciate everything MOO-thers do every day to fill our days with sunshine !

04.01.2022 Happy to report that Dr Jennies beloved goat Norman aka El Normo Libre has returned home and happy to be back to his daily routine. Fighting with his paddock mate, Ingrid, bossing the dogs around and breaking and entering into the house to steal fruit from the fruit bowl! Jennie had gotten complacent with locking the back door while Noman was away! Sadly, the Chewbacca mug was Normans first victim. No fruit was injured in the break in...and Ripley and Rhett had a jolly time escorting Norman back to his area.

03.01.2022 Adoption opportunity! Hi, my name is Beanz and I am looking for a forever home. I think Im about 1 years old and a rangeland type goat with blunt ended horns. I have been desexed so can happily live with any goats and I dont smell like a stinky buck! I am up to date with my vaccinations and drenching.... I love lead walks, playing with other goats and being brushed. I have a crazy floppy quiff and long goatee beard. My favourite foods are weeds, wild olive branches and oaten hay. I was originally rescued by the RSPCA and have been cared for by the Sydney Uni Livestock Vets who say I am now fit and healthy If you would like to know more about adopting me please call the Livestock Vet Services (Sydney Uni Vets) on 024655 0777 and ask for Dr Jennie Mohler.

03.01.2022 Dr Jennies much loved goat, Norman Bates, is not one to shy away from costumes and disguises. Over the past year, Norman has had issues with swelling around his left eye. However, some abnormal bone disfiguration had his vet mom concerned something more sinister was going on with his eye. Livestock Crew teamed up with Large Animal Specialist Surgeons, Professor Andrew Dart and Dr Sara Biasutti to help Norman and his worried mum. Surgery revealed a bone cyst behind his le...ft eye. Which was a surprise and relief! An in dwelling drain was placed to create a fistula to allow the cyst to drain through his nasal cavity. And even better news bone biopsies reveal Norman is cancer free. Not too bad for an old guy! Norman says Happy New Year! And he loves his new disguise that makes him look like a Mexican Nacho Libre Wrestler! He is now known about the clinic as El Normo Libre. And trust us, now that he is feeling better, it is like a wrestling match during treatments. Speedy recovery, Normo!
