25.01.2022 - ENGULFED - I took this shot today at Mornington Pier right as the main cold front was hitting! The wind and rain was coming in sideways and smashing me whilst... I was trying to get the right shot. This was the biggest wave a saw smash into the side of the pier whilst I was there. Im hoping it was worth the blistering cold, and having a sore face and ears from the wind, sand and rain blowing into me **Image available for media licencing through Severe Weather Australia** _________________________________________________________ Prints available: www.lawsphotography.com Enquiries: [email protected] _________________________________________________________ www.flickr.com/lawsphotography www.facebook.com/vaughanlawsphotography www.lawsphotography.com www.instagram.com/vaughanlawsphotography _________________________________________________________

A quick ale and bite to eat was had at the Westernport Hotel at the end of the. I wasnt there yesterday but by all reports everyone had a great time over both days.

18.01.2022 Just a quick note for those that use the compressor, I have emptied the banks of AIR and have filled the banks to 130 Bar with 32% EANx, about half way as I had been there all afternoon. If anybody is filling any cylinders and they have a burning desire to fill the banks a little more, please feel free to do so and please note the pressure that you have filled to. Thanks Kev.

17.01.2022 A great effort today by our fundraisers at Bunnings today. A big thanks goes out to Stu & Judy Gaul, Brendon van Heurk, Jeff Clegg, Jason Hender, Chris van der Zalm, Jeff Caughey and yours truly.

15.01.2022 Want to know what weve learnt from our tagging studies on southern rock lobster? 83% are caught within 1km of their release site, and 94% stay within 5kms. T...he few that do move tend to head in a south to south westerly direction, with some travelling more than 50kms! The map below shows the routes taken by these particularly active crustaceans. One special case was a female rock lobster (tag #7870). She was released near Torquay and walked a crazy 168km south west, past Cape Otway and out to the shelf. She was recaptured after 2003 days out, in which time shed travelled an average of 84m per day and grew 12.1mm (2.2mm per year). While we dont really know why some lobsters move from inshore to offshore, our theory is that its to maximise dispersal of larvae. Pretty cool huh?! #fisheriesscience #rocklobsters

03.01.2022 Heres a glimpse into a typical days patrol for our Fisheries Officers at Cowes! Patrolling waters around Western Port and Bass Strait, the Officers inspect co...mmercial and recreational fishers, often boarding vessels to check and measure fishers catch. Licences, log books and equipment are also inspected whilst aboard. Officers have a responsibility to ensure safety on the water through education. Its important that boaters have the right safety equipment for the type of vessel and waters theyre in, such as life jackets, the most common item not used. If you think being a Fisheries Officer is the career for you, check out this web page and register your interest: https://vfa.vic.gov.au///fisheries-officer-career-victoria. #vfafisheriesofficers
