21.01.2022 While the energy efficiency savings in replacing existing fluorescent lights with LEDs are very real we find that the business case for a LED lighting retrofit becomes very convincing when the savings in the ongoing maintenance cost is taken into account. Commercial grade LEDs typically have a life of approximately 50,000hrs, about 4 times that of many typical fluoro tubes. If the fittings are difficult to access, ie in a high ceiling or above fixed obstructions, the cost s...avings by reducing re-lamping becomes even more substantial. Furthermore, the lifespan of LED lighting is not detrimentally impacted by switching, unlike older technologies. In areas that are frequently turned on and off, the difference in average lifespan, and therefore potential savings in maintenance costs, grows even larger. LVX are currently undertaking a review of a long-term client in their manufacturing and office facilities in NSW to uncover where ongoing environmental and operational cost savings can be achieved. The simple energy consumption improvements of the proposed solution must also account for; government incentive eligibility, embedded energy implications, potential for end-of-life refurbishment of fittings.

16.01.2022 It was great to attend this years MWC19 at the Los Angeles Convention Centre, and to explore some of the top Smart City Innovations coming out on the market. The discussions throughout the week revolved around high-speed 5G networks, IoT, AI, Big Data and Cybersecurity. It was fascinating to gain insights from some of the key industry players across the market about the evolution of IoT and 5G and how we must place a huge importance on cybersecurity over the coming years. By 2025, approximately 80 billion devices will be connected to the Internet. In 2016, 4,800 devices connected to the network every minute, but this figure will increase to 152,000 by 2025. We must ensure that all connected devices are implemented and managed securely by all relevant stakeholders to minimize the chance of an intrusion. #smartcities #cybersecurity

LVX Global CEO and Global Smart City/IoT Lead, Corey Gray, Addresses the South Australian Local Government Association Smart Cities Forum in Adelaide, Australia On 23rd July Corey Gray addressed a forum of smart city officers, project managers, mayors and CEOs at Local Government House, Adelaide raising the controversial topic: Is Smart City Even a Thing?... If we accept the proposition developed over time with dozens of cities for whom LVX has developed strategies, frameworks and roadmaps, the accepted definition of Smart City is no different from what cities have been trying to do for thousands of years say Corey: A Smart City provides a safer, more beautiful and usable environment in which to work and play, at the same time delivering economic and environmental benefits to all. The Smart City process, now as it was historically, should be people-centric, data driven and sometimes technology enabled. No-one ever said when phones, computers, the internet and online banking were adopted, We are now a smart city!, even though these advancements dwarf everything happening today in terms of community transformation. The only real difference now is that more technology and data is available, which is a double edged sword. Cities are about people: their needs, their wants, their expectations. Technology is not a panacea. It is only as good as the people and processes around it. In this context, its really important to emphasise that Smart does not automatically mean Tech. In too many cases the Smart City discussion (and realm) has been hijacked by vendors looking to sell high cost equipment, when there are so many opportunities to make meaningful smart city progress without spending a whole lot of public money and taking on a whole lot of risk: Make the road lines wider to be connected vehicle ready. Change your usage rules for roads to combat traffic congestion. Consider and assess community wellbeing from a citizens perspective. Change policy and legislation to attract and enable provide investment. Consider changes to planning guidelines to be future ready and attract private investment inside the building. Consider options and implement policies for technology confluence to declutter and beautify public space. There are so many ways to engage with smart city and provide meaningful community outcomes that dont involve high levels of spending on complex technology. Along the way, make sure that your procurement processes, organisational structure, and available skill sets are being readied for future at scale activation. In the end, smart city is just a new term for the age old commitment to provide the best possible outcomes for citizens and communities.

10.01.2022 Earlier this month, our CEO, Corey Gray, spent 2 days in Silicon Valley at his first LonMark International board meeting. 25 years ago the industry as focused on creating a vendor agnostic open protocol environment, and Lonworks led the charge, later to be joined by the likes of BACnet and Modbus. In todays IoT age the new challenge is to create an environment that is vendor AND protocol agnostic, as well as vertically and horizontally configurable. 09.01.2022 On Thursday evening, we held our LVX US launch event, in conjunction with our LVX Community event, Eschaton, at the 'Riot House Gallery', at the infamous Andaz Hotel on Sunset Boulevard, in West Hollywood. The event was a great success, and it gave our attendees a flavour of who we are, what we do, and what we are all about. There was a wide variety of attendees, such as representatives from the City of LA, Smart City consultants, vendors, as well as people who have an intere...st in art, comedy and wine. It was a great way to celebrate the opening of our US office, and to meet so many people involved in the Smart City Ecosystem Our Eschaton Global Art Project is a collaboration with CEO, Corey Gray, artistic photographer Peter Hall and fine art model, Amy Heather. The projects aim is to produce an evolving body of work exhibited in 12 countries before being consolidated in a final exhibition in Poland in May 2020.
