25.01.2022 Post poop-ed blissful state. Thankfully Ava is a good pooper...at the moment Did you know that the neurotransmitter serotonin has functions outside of mood regulation? Outside of learning, behaviour, mood and appetite? 90% of serotonin is produced in the gut and it’s roles extend to;... Promotes and is crucial for healthy functioning gut motility through SCFA (especially butyrate and propionate) and bile acid production (think regular bowel movements... aka number two’s) Serotonin may impact gut bacteria specifically pathogens. Influencing whether the pathogen will be able to invade and cause illness. Glucose and lipid homeostasis Serotonin and it’s roles in the gastrointestinal system fascinate me which is why I had to get @christine_stewart_nutritionist from Microba on Love & Guts to explore this topic. Learn more about serotonin and it’s lesser known functions in the latest episode. Link ihttps://bit.ly/3mw13XO Microba is also generously offering the Love & Guts listener $50 off your first Microba Insights stool (poo) test. To take advantage of this offer schedule in an initial naturopathy/ nutrition consultation with me via my scheduling link http://bit.ly/2SrACnN and I will provide you with details. Offer ends 28th September 2020 Beautiful EcoNaps Modern Cloth Nappies modelled by our daughter Ava

24.01.2022 I do like to milk my birthday celebrations... for days.... Today I sent 41 years off with gratitude and set an intention for the next year and those that follow. The intention is to welcome in joy daily. It sounds naff or corny but for me the intention needed to be practical and simple enough to implement daily.... I’ve been indulging in far too much frustration, stress and dare I say it, anger, since giving birth four months ago. Not because I don’t love life with my daughter and the new family dance. More because I’ve lost that illusion which we call control. Angered, frustrated and stressed is not where I want to spend my time frolicking and so I’ve made the choice...at 6am this morning, as husband @guyhlawrence and I took an ocean dip, we welcomed our intentions in Is it time to set a new intention for yourself perhaps? It doesn’t need to take a birthday (like me) to change the course of your thoughts, feelings and beliefs. Thank you, welshman @guyhlawrence and sweet lady Ava for being a part of what was a delicious day... Bring on day three I say Outstanding food from @potager_at_carool - potato skins and aioli, warm olives (to feed my fetish) etc etc drool (see next post) Token dress shots with Ava because it’s not every day you get to dress up and done some make up. So best I document as these days are often seen with boobs out and easy access clothes for feeding, laced with drool or milk of course.

23.01.2022 Do you need to put up with urinary incontinence (think peeing when you sneeze, laugh or cough ) especially during pregnancy and post birth and what about Diastasis Recti? How do we know we have this and what can we do about it? I interviewed the delightful Bernadette from Core and Floor Restore on the above topics and the following. I only wish I had more time to chat with this wonderfully honest and intelligent woman. (Scroll to the bottom for B’s generous offer)... We also discuss; Bernadette’s inspiring story What the core and pelvic floor encompasses Challenges women face when it comes to their core The dangers of getting back into exercise too quickly after birth What we can do on a day-to-day basis to structurally support our core How to baby-wear correctly B’s thoughts on belly wrapping And so much more B is also offering the Love & Guts listener 20% off her fantastic Core & Floor Restore Programs https://bit.ly/3gnXvTh (which I’m knee deep in now and highly recommend ). Use code love20. This offer is valid until September the 7th 2020. http://www.lyndagriparic.com/bernadette-lack-incontinence-/

20.01.2022 Left feeding vessel (booby) bigger than the right Slight, persistent, lovable mum tum Unexplained postpartum rash on upper arms and thighs Tired eyes Unkempt nails... Skin tags in weird-arse places slowly saying goodbye Brows not tended to for some time, but alas the growth of my hair has slowed so no need. Mamma life can be full of niggly complaints but still I marvel at the beautiful beast that continues to nourish our Bebe. Mamas we may feel a little all over the joint and unsexy...(most of the time) but dang we are not! We are lovable and perfect just the way we are. L E G O E .

20.01.2022 How do we connect with our kids vs. the traditional way we have brought up kids with reward and punishment and why do they push our buttons? THIS conversation is everything and a must listen to for all parents. I feel like I only scratched the surface with Bonnie Harris, Connective Parenting and I can not wait to get her back on again. We specifically cover... The difference between personal boundaries and setting limits Why its so easy for parents to have their buttons pushed Why children push our buttons Bonnies thoughts on giving children what they want and when saying no is appropriate How we can stop ourselves from reacting in a way that we regret in hindsight And so much more Make sure to check out the show notes and grab one of Bonnies fantastic books/resources. http://www.lyndagriparic.com/bonnie-harris-how-to-connect-/

19.01.2022 Husband Guy Lawrence and I reflect on 2020 in the latest Love & Guts episode. Our biggest challenges How parent-hood has changed the way we show up daily What we miss about life before becoming parents... Who has been our favourite podcast guest and why One thing we have implemented from a podcast and why A practice that has kept us sane during the challenges of motherhood/papihood What we hope to implement in 2021 and lots of Ava background tunes I hope that you get some value or at the very least you find the conversation amusing Thank you so much for tuning in, for subscribing and for supporting Love & Guts http://www.lyndagriparic.com/lynda-guy-and-ava-lawrence/

18.01.2022 So I was wearing a skirt to the local shopping centre, I just had my baby two weeks prior. Car stacked with baby paraphernalia (nappy bag - nappies, wipes, change mat, towels etc) As I opened the door to enter my car I sneezed and wet myself in the process. Pee dribbled down my leg. Now it wasn’t a large amount but enough to mortify and concern me. Thankfully I was able to mop up the evidence with the baby bits on hand.... Was this to be my reality moving forward? Now a weakened pelvic floor and bladder and especially this scenario (sneeze pee) is not uncommon during pregnancy and post birth . Do we need to put up with it and accept it as normal though? While my sneeze pee relationship has resolved I still pay attention to my pelvic floor and undertake the practices that support it, both in the way I functionally move my body throughout the day and by implementing certain exercises. I’m a big advocate for working with a pelvic floor physio and have recently signed up to the invaluable Core & Restore program created by Bernadette (B) from Core and Floor Restore (my latest podcast guest) I only wish I’d signed up to this program during pregnancy or prior to as I’m a lover of all things prevention. To learn more about restoring your pelvic floor, click on the following link https://bit.ly/2EEoxIP to listen to my conversation with B. We simply do not have to accept such things as normal. BTW up until September 7th 2020, B is offering the Love and Guts listener 20% off her programs. Use love20 at checkout https://bit.ly/3jf8ekK Do you have a similar story? I would love to hear. Ps - pelvic floor dysfunction does not only apply to pregnancy or postpartum mind you.

Why is Garlic such a heavily researched nutrient, exactly why is it so beneficial for cardiovascular health and does this extend to all garlic preparations? Dr Karin Ried NIIM - the National Institute of Integrative Medicine and I address the above and the following in the latest Love & Guts episode. Cardiovascular disease and the drivers... 17.01.2022 My two loves. I feel so honoured to be experiencing this lifetime with you @guyhlawrence . We build each other up, we challenge, we explore, we marvel and now certain aspects of us are unveiled due to a little lady who has decided we are her parents. . I (now We ) love and cherish you... . Cheers to papas day which has been full of a restless Ava driven, unrelaxed breakfast at @mavises_kitchen where Ava thought it a good idea to pee on mamas dress, scream, sorry serenade the diners and our subsequent detour to @liliumandlove which was the perfect pit stop to indulge in some pleasure. Think raspberry and cacao cake, mushroom, cacao elixirs, delicious tunes and a gentle, chilled vibe. . To be honest I wouldn’t want Father’s Day to look any different to its perfectly messy self. . 16.01.2022 What on earth is a doula, do they replace your birth partner during preparation for birth, during birth and postpartum, and are birth plans a waste of time? I had the honour of discussing the above and snippets of my birth story with our chosen doula, Anna Murray from Byron Babymoon on Love & Guts. We also delve into... How doulas are different from midwifes Who would benefit from a doula. How a doula supports the dad/partner What hypnobirthing is If developing a birth plan is worth our time The challenges of being a doula And so much more I’m a big fan of Anna, how she has shown up for our family and doulas overall. Please share this conversation with all you know need to hear it. Photo/video in comments section is Anna in action at our birth. Couldn't attach to this post for some reason http://www.lyndagriparic.com/anna-murray-doulas-hypnobirth/

16.01.2022 It’s taken me a little over 3 months to feel absolutely ready to go all in with using cloth nappies. . We still use eco- friendly disposable for night time sleeps but this will eventually change also. . Both hubby and I needed to be ready and thankfully I have not found the extra washing, too extra if you know what I mean.... . I only share as I was petrified of using them mostly because I didn’t want to create more work for myself as a new mum/family and I know only too well the pressure we place on ourselves to have everything under control and operating as it had been. . It’s all an illusion, isn’t it this control biz? . We have chosen to use EcoNaps Modern Cloth Nappies . @australiannappyassociation #clothshotaday2020 #econaps

16.01.2022 The theme for Day 11 of the cloth nappy challenge is Present. . Ava demands a lot of that and we happily oblige. . I’d go as far to say that she is waking us up to pure presence again. With people, in conversation, in our environment etc.... . Don’t get me wrong I kind of resisted in the beginning, wanting to have control over how the days transpired but surrendering has been my biggest blessing. It’s not always easy mind you! . Does this experience sound familiar to you? . #clothshotaday2020 #getintocloth #clothnappies @australiannappyassociation @econaps @guyhlawrence See more

13.01.2022 What is the role of the mucosal barrier in immunity? How does the microbiome optimise our defences? I had the privilege of chatting with naturopath Debbie Cotton from Invivo Healthcare about this fascinating topic. We specifically address;... - The importance of the mucosal barriers throughout the GIT system and their role in immunity - The importance of host-microbiome reactions and how host markers such as sIgA and beta defensins help determine our interplay with microbes - The bacteria involved in the mucosal balance - The importance of syntrophy, and what patterns we commonly see when things start to go in the wrong direction - How the thinning of mucosal barriers from the oral cavity to gut play a role in the development of chronic disease - How we can support the mucosal barrier and diversity - And so much more Its a juicy (pardon the pun) topic and if it wasn’t 6am in the morning for Debbie I may have picked her brain for a lot longer. http://www.lyndagriparic.com/debbie-cotton-the-mucosal-bar/

13.01.2022 I’ve been waiting a wee while to get this legend on Love & Guts to discuss all things oral microbiome. This topic excites me so much and I’m always looking out for the research that unfolds about this topic. 12.01.2022 Chronic skin dis-ease can feel disheartening and frustrating to those who experience it and sometimes challenging to the clinician trying to treat it. Which Is why I had to get Dr Julie Greenberg from Center for Integrative Dermatology to discuss the lesser known causes, treatment strategies and so much more I got so much out of this conversation and as a result have asked Dr Greenberg to return to the cast.... 11.01.2022 We all know the neurotransmitter serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine or 5-HT) has influence on our mood but do you know it has extremely important roles to play in gastrointestinal function? 11.01.2022 How can evaluating the gut microbiota of infants help identify who is at risk of becoming overweight or obese? . What early infant exposures impact weight and metabolic health? . Just a couple of things Dr @monamorsteinnd and I discuss in the latest Love & Guts podcast episode.... . It’s a fascinating topic. To listen, click on the link in my bio. . And let’s face it this post is slightly influenced by my desire to upload yet another happy snap of my love and most influential teacher. @guyhlawrence

11.01.2022 Always trying to find ways to settle our bub that cries every so often. Apparently reading out loud...(one of my fave past times mind you) appears to be a winner. . What tricks, tools do you have up your sleeve? I would to hear and always learn from other parents . Ava responds well to... bouncing on a fit ball baby wearing walks walks around the block on dads chest the nipple breast milk singing swaying/rocking staring at fairy lights and books At the end of the day these tools do not ALWAYS work and sometimes we are just there to hold space. . While husband and I hold space for each other. . Thanks for capturing this moment @guyhlawrence #classic .

09.01.2022 It’s the final day of the #clothshotaday2020 challenge and oh what fun I’ve had having an excuse to take copious amounts of photos of my daughter daily. In her cloth nappies of course . Have you been curious about cloth nappies? Have you been considering transitioning from disposable? I’d love to share how I slowly transitioned from eco friendly disposable in the hope that it might whet your tastebuds or at the very least help you avoid making the same mistakes I did. ... I would love to hear of your experience too. So please share as I’m still learning. Here goes I waited until bub was 3 - 4 months, until I was ready to fully transition Prior to 3 months I began dabbling with cloth nappies twice daily at home. Eco friendly disposables were used every other time Then I limited my disposable use to when we went out and over-night Now I use all cloth except over night as I find that they are slightly less absorbable so Ava can feel the pee / discomfort sooner ( I believe?) and the absorbable buy me more time. I plan to use cloth over night too if all goes well I wash nappy inserts every 2-3 days (with other clothes). Since babe is a little older she only poos once a day and therefore there is much less work with the washing. As poopy inserts require soaking. When we are out of the house or traveling, I simply use a wet swim bag to pop the wet/soiled inserts in @econaps has a special on a pack of two. I started with this & then I purchased 10 cloth nappies & have about 15 inserts now to ensure I always have some dry and ready to go There are many different fabulous cloth nappy brands but I went with @econaps because they are local and met my standards when it came to eco friendly values. . Going cloth was the best & surprisingly easiest decision I ever made but I’d highly recommend doing it when bub is a few months old, when you are mentally ready mama & papa & when they poop less so it’s less work for you. . It makes me feel really good to have less wastage to carry out to the bins every week. . @guyhlawrence has become fan too. . Thank you @australiannappyassociation for putting on such a fun challenge #getintocloth #clothnappies .

09.01.2022 What impact does the gut microbiome have on our weight? I had the privilege of having Dr Mona Morstein from @YourAIMSolutions back on the cast to discuss the link between the gut microbiome and obesity. We specifically address:... How the healthy gut microbiome influences weight and appetite How lipopolysaccharides contribute to obesity The characteristics you might see in the gut microbiome of the obese How evaluating the gut microbiota of infants can help identify who is at risk of becoming overweight or obese. Some ways that we could influence the gut microbiome and therefore reduce weight What functional tests Mona uses to test the gut microbiome And so much more I know you’ll love this one. http://www.lyndagriparic.com/dr-mona-morstein-the-link-bet/

08.01.2022 My heart is exploding with love for these two. Even melancholy moods can be lifted with Ava smiles...laced with drool and husbands warm presence. . Here’s to the people who make it all worth while. . @guyhlawrence

07.01.2022 This play suit by @bamlovesboo means much more to me than a pretty outfit for Ava. You see... After my pregnancy loss in 2019, the welshman and I threw ourselves into the conscious project of conceiving and this time holding onto baby full term.... It took many many months of often challenging doing, consuming copious supplements, relationship demands etc and many months of sitting in thoughts that threatened to de-rail the plan. I made sure to keep up with my practices, you know the ones you get your clients to implement daily The playsuit was one of these practices. I purchased this to live in our bedroom within daily sight. Every morning and evening I would walk past it, place my hand on top of it, take a few breaths and utter a view words to welcome in our baby. (our not really being the appropriate word but you know what I mean). The words were or similar to I can not wait to meet you. I also made it a point to feel and embody the presence of a little soul I did this religiously daily, even when my hope was dwindling and I was in despair (which was more often than I would have liked) Now every time I look at the outfit, I’m reminded of the importance of implementing such practices, making it a ritual, to call in, regardless of how much your mind decides your desires are too lofty. Have you set up any practices to welcome in something, someone, a new environment? If you care to share I would love to hear

06.01.2022 If you work in the space of digestive health in particular SIBO you’ll know that often there will be a challenging case that will persist or reoccur. Gastroenterologist and functional medicine practitioner Dr Farshid Rahbar from Los Angeles Integrative Gastroenterology and Nutrition and I discuss the above, the considerations we need to factor in and the following. - What the related microbiomes are that contribute to the formation of SIBO... - How the oral cavity and sinuses contribute to SIBO - Why is Marcons is common in SIBO patients - The 10 different types of gas patterns - How the presence of bile in the stomach can lead to SIBO - What to consider when persistent high levels of methane exist - If methane actually has a protective role. Now this you have to hear - What to consider in general when SIBO is difficult to treat or frequently relapses - The possible role of fungi in methane SIBO - And so much more I could have spent longer digging deeply into this conversation with Farshid. It’s a fascinating one and I hope you find it valuable. http://www.lyndagriparic.com/dr-farshid-sam-rahbar-conside/

06.01.2022 I’m going to enjoy, revisiting silliness, dancing and moving in ways that I’ve laid to rest for many years. . The joys of experiencing the world through my babies eyes Is a huge reward for disrupted sleep, half conversations, aged appearances and work-life juggles. . Thanks Bebe ... . As for this silly manoeuvre, Ave’s really does enjoy it, even if it doesn’t seem this way in the video. . Would love to see your weird-arse movements that entertain your bebe. . 05.01.2022 Seems like only yesterday we created the memories captured in these photos of the best and most heart explosive and expansive day of my life. . It was only 4 years ago that I married you welshman @guyhlawrence . Best and easiest decision (I’m a Liberian.... believe me decision making doesn’t come easy) I’ve ever made.... . You still manage to make me laugh as can be seen in these photos and light up my face, lovingly exposing all my happiness wrinkles. . Let’s keep living, loving and exploring. 05.01.2022 Love & Guts has taken a mini hiatus this week so you guys can catch up and this mama can do that too.. . Instead I share with you a lady who likes to get primal, naked and feral... . Channeling a bit of that into my days too...... . @susukoshi See more

05.01.2022 A photo capturing just how wonderfully messy mama meet ups can be. . So often I get nervous going out with Aves because it feels . Like a huge effort... I anticipate that Ava may gift us with inconsolable irritability and I anticipate mental exhaustion I also anticipate half and incomplete conversations Lets be honest sometimes I just feel grey, tired and overwhelmed by well..... everything I often feel I vent far too much and walk away feeling guilty that I Debbie downed . But. . I never regret remembering me and exploring another facet of myself that is beyond the mother when with friends I never regret the exposure to nature, movement and another environment I enjoy how Ava interacts with others and the environment I often return inspired one way or another I simply love spending time, exploring with our precious (not our) little lady and enjoy being more present then I’ve been in a very long time . So thank you to all of the people in my life who walk the messy with me and kudos to me and all other new mamas traveling the mattrescence path as best they can. If you’re anything like me, it feels like an unruly mind field that you negotiate with on the daily. . Thanks Fi Pashom for just being THAT person for me today See more

I’m so delighted to have sex and relationship coach and vaginal weight lifter Kim Anami on the cast to address these important topics We also dive into... 04.01.2022 Day three : Play . It’s a cloth nappy shot a day month and the theme is play. I figure Ave’s loves tummy time, especially when mama is watching her intently as I’m doing in this pic. . Playing with Ave’s helps channel me back into the present moment. Otherwise it’s so easy to while away time responding to emails, doing work or catching up on social media. All of which can wait and to be honest are not as important as creating memories with this young lady.... . Sometimes though deadlines are a reality and that’s when the mum guilt sets in. I try to avoid indulging in mum guilt too much but sadly it’s a daily feeling and I’m sure it’s felt by many of us. . Does mum guilt ever leave you? Would love to hear how you deal, manage or accept it? . Gorgeous cloth nappy by @econaps #clothshotaday2020 @australiannappyassociation See more

04.01.2022 Connection... . What does it mean to you? . It would have to be up there in the top 5 of my highest values but doesn’t mean I’m always great at prioritizing it.... . Often work, studies and a fierce protectiveness over my solitary space can get in the way. . Connection means the following to me (and this is not an exhaustive list) . love learning/growth living health - do you know isolation and loneliness impacts your health exploring aspects of yourself introduction and exploration into other views, perspectives joy connection to spirit (heart) geez so much more (I’m sure I’ll add to this) . Where could you get more connection in your day and do you feel like there’s room to improve here? . The photos highlight how Ave’s likes to connect with her lil buddies

02.01.2022 Making it a goal to be like a primal, curious baby, ready to explore and take on the unknown. My daughter leads by example. . @guyhlawrence

02.01.2022 Saturday’s are dedicated to relationships, conversation, exploration and avoidance of work related endeavours. . At LEAST one day a week we gift ourselves this. We always try and factor in something new too. Be it trying a new beach, new route to get to somewhere, a new cafe, a new meal to cook. . I’ve always been really prone to restlessness when I find myself on autopilot day in and day out. ... . Changing it up, even if the act is very minor ignites something in me and leads to fresh ideas, perspectives and opportunity. . Glad that babe can come for the ride. All she needs is my boob, a change of #clothnappy (I like @econaps ) and a Muslin cloth (for everything you can think of, clean up spew, wipe wet bottoms and...) . Would love to hear if you gift yourself at least one day where you kick routine to the kerb? See more

02.01.2022 The best of Love & Gut’s continues. Do you know that there are different types of Functional Chronic Constipation? This week I make live a conversation I had with Dr Sabrina Kimball on this very topic, and in particular Outlet Dysfunction Constipation.... Researching constipation is my jam. Knowing how to identify what type helps bring us closer to a resolution for your often long term suffering. In this conversation we address - The three different types of functional chronic constipation - The red flags of chronic constipation that we don’t want to ignore - What outlet dysfunction constipation is - The causes of outlet dysfunction constipation - How we identify if someone has functional chronic constipation dysfunction such as ODC. - The treatments available for outlet dysfunction constipation - Dr Kimball’s thoughts on frequent colonics and laxative use - and so much more . http://www.lyndagriparic.com/dr-sabrina-kimball-outlet-dys/

02.01.2022 Even though I’ve had to re-define what freedom looks and feels like, I wouldn’t want my life to look and feel any different to what it does now daughter and @guyhlawrence . . I feel as though I’m learning more and more to go with it rather than push against it and am channeling excitement of what’s to come rather than resistance or sorrow for what is no longer. . 02.01.2022 I’m so humbled to have @vital.ly sponsor yet again the Love & Guts podcast. Given that all of my consultations are run online I have been personally using @vital.ly_aus as my go to practitioner only supplement platform for a number of years. Mainly because my patients and I have access to a wide range of quality practitioner only supplementation without the stress of having to carry stock. Not to mention the delivery turnaround time is quick and the entire experience smooth.... It’s an added bonus that this platform now also supports health practitioners such as myself even further by providing quality education. I can not recommend @vital.ly_aus and the people behind its creation enough. As a practitioner I’ve watched @vital.ly_aus continue to innovate their platform to support our growing needs in clinic. THANKYOU @vital.ly_aus To learn more simply go to vital.ly

01.01.2022 Today I'm re-sharing a fantastic and well loved conversation I had with Alyssa Tait Equilibria Truth be known it has been a very big week of trying to juggle work and mama life and some things, like editing podcast episodes fell by the wayside. Yep. I do all of the editing. A slightly mad move but alas. I will say though that by repurposing older episodes I do believe its an excellent opportunity to revisit really relevant topics for the new listener or old such as this one, ...even for me, who has found Pelvic floor physiotherapy extremely useful postpartum. SO..... How do you know if you have pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD), how does PFD affect your bowel (think constipation amongst other things), bladder health and pain levels and should we be avoiding kegel exercises? Alyssa and I answer the questions above plus dive into; What the pelvic floor encompasses The major risk factors for Pelvic Floor Dysfunction Signs that indicate one has pelvic floor dysfunction How PFD is assessed The difference between control type and pain type pelvic floor dysfunction The risks of pelvic floor exercises such as Kegels You’ll love this one as much as I do. http://www.lyndagriparic.com/alyssa-tait-pelvic-floor-dysf/
