25.01.2022 With us unable to do our usual trade stall exhibits at conferences this year due to COVID-19 I have done a virtual trade stall to let you equine dentals zealots... know what we have been up to and there is a special offer at the end. Email us at [email protected] or call us on 02 66 424 700 for more info.

25.01.2022 Here is a very good reason for examining two year olds when first being bitted up. Note the point on the first premolar and the crescent shaped ulcer inside the cheek. This was present both sides and caused by bit pressure . Second view shows mouth after treatment, much more comfortable.

24.01.2022 After the October trip 2020 Peter will not be taking new clients, if you want his experience contact now as this is your last chance

17.01.2022 Following on from yesterday’s post , i am really curious how the horse owners who swear by their non sedating equine dental practitioners expect their practit...ioner to detect, assess and treat periodontal pockets like we found on a routine dental on this 6 yo gelding today? I look forward to finding out the answers as i could never even manage to even know this disease was going on in most mouths before i started sedating and actually looking in mouths. We use a combination of instruments and treatment plans to treat and manage this disease. It is certainly not easy or straight forward, and if left unchecked , it will lead to deeper gum infection, loss of bone support to the teeth, premature loosening of teeth and short and long term pain for the horse. Periodontal disease = the most common disease in all horses!

14.01.2022 Foal Immunoglobulin G (IgG) Testing: It’s always a very exciting moment when your foal finally first shows their face in the world. A foal is born with a functi...onal immune system (if all is normal), but has a general absence of immunoglobulins to aid in the defense against infection. The foal acquires their initial immunoglobulin protection from the mare’s first milk and without receiving adequate levels this can lead to serious health problems for the foal. Foal Immunoglobulin G (IgG) tests assess the adequacy of colostrum intake and antibody absorption. Foals should ideally be tested at 12-24 hours of age. IgG test categories: > 8g/L adequate passive transfer of immunity 4-8g/L Partial failure of passive transfer of immunity 0-4g/L Failure of passive transfer of immunity Failure or partial failure of immunity is a recognized risk factor for the development of septicaemia or joint infections. Knowing a foal’s IgG levels helps your vet decide whether further colostrum or a plasma transfusion is indicated.

09.01.2022 For 18.5 years now, since i imported the first one to Australia, the Powerfloat has helped me help many thousands of horses and their owners and veterinarians! ... Thank you Dr Rach for developing this amazing instrument and allowing it only to be sold to licenced veterinarians - who are accountable for their actions and can be prosecuted/deregistered for negligence! This accountability leads to greater welfare outcomes and consumer protection.

08.01.2022 Alert: Hendra case south of Murwillumbah EVA has received confirmed reports of a positive case of Hendra virus, diagnosed by an experienced private veterinarian..., on a private property south of Murwillumbah in North Eastern NSW. The horse was a 17 y.o. retired thoroughbred gelding, which presented as in-coordinated with breathing difficulties. Importantly, it did NOT have a temperature. This presentation demonstrates how vague and variable the signs and symptoms of Hendra virus can be, and serves as a reminder to all horse owners to use appropriate levels of PPE if you think your horse is 'just not right'. This is particularly important if the horse is not vaccinated against this fatal disease. Biosecurtiy Queensland advise all veterinarians and horse owners that researchers have forecast increased numbers of Hendra virus cases this winter, due to recent and prevailing climatic conditions.

05.01.2022 Lovely Clydesdale gelding in my crush this afternoon. All of 17 hands. Bred by the late Jo Chorny and Gene Osborne who were my clients years ago. Now lives at Burrum Heads with his dedicated owners. Just a routine dental, all in a days work,

03.01.2022 If you are interested in having some ASH events in our area, please come along.

02.01.2022 No better way to test the healing of the hands on first day back from a week off, then a 14 horse dental party! Big field of contestants in the Biggest Bean comp too!

02.01.2022 Examined this young horse this morning. Noted two deep ulcers inside the lower lip. Cause became obvious when I removed the loose deciduous incisor tooth. Note the sharp spike of enamel on my finger tip. Clearly this has abraded the inside of the lip. My good deed for the day.

02.01.2022 Another interesting days dentistry. Warmblood mare age 21. Losing weight, difficulty chewing. Severe overgrowth of molar 311, impacting tooth above and blocking any normal chewing. Then a deep cheek ulcer and a loose lower molar on opposite side. Nice feeling to relieve all this pain in about one hour. Not a job for the no gag, no sedation experts.

01.01.2022 We provide a few other services other than just horses teeth; Mare/breeding ultrasounds Consultations Microchipping ... Hendra vaccinations Thoroughbred DNA For anything else, just ask! Phone Peter 0428 796 418
