25.01.2022 This week marks National Diabetes Week with a focus on supporting the emotional and mental heath of all individuals living either directly or indirectly with di...abetes. Did you know every day 250 Australians develop diabetes, equating to a staggering one person every 5 minutes! For every person diagnosed there is usually a family member or carer who is also impacted by this condition and lives with diabetes every day in a support role. It is so so important to understand the impacts of diabetes, both physically and psychologically, and to know where to go for resources and help. Lifestyle changes such as diet modification and increased physical activity participation play an important role in assisting to manage the disease, as well as preventing the incidence of any diabetes related compilations. This week and always lets reach out to someone we know living with diabetes, ask how they are coping, lend a listening ear or a helping hand. With support and encouragement we can all work together to reduce the impact of diabetes! #NationalDiabetesWeek #NDW2020 #HeadsUpDiabetes #diabetesawareness #mentalhealth

23.01.2022 So...this is what the BSERC family got up to thismorning while our fearless leader Grant had his BSERC Academy of Sport rowers out on the water. Good new is, we all did our best version of walking, shuffling and running to support the great work of @ballaratfoundation by joining in on the #runforacause2019.

22.01.2022 Walking Off The War Within is held in memory of Nathan Shanahan, a returned solider and firefighter, and other fallen Service Men and Women who have taken their own lives after battling mental health issues. The Walk is for Emergency Service Personnel, Defence Force Personnel and members of the public to come together to share the burden and march as one. As someone living with PTSD, Depression and Anxiety, this event is particularly significant to me. Once again I will ...set up at the finish of the walk offering free treatment to participants. It would be great to see a tribe of #BSERCers walking in solidarity for such a worthwhile cause. Mental Health is a team sport! Share the Burden; March as one! So, whos with me? To register, follow the link https://linktr.ee/lyndel.amos See more

22.01.2022 Its tomorrow people! You can still register to participate. The day is designed for families to enjoy together with childrens activities, education displays, emergency and defence force vehicle and equipment displays, music and more.

22.01.2022 Back in 2012 I was running the lake doing 622 kilometers. I was fit. I was kicking goals that had never been in my field of vision. I took up running because Id been told that I shouldnt. So, being the slightly rebellious type, I thought Ill show them! My left knee stopped me running a few years ago, and I ended up at @bserc_au. I rehabbed my knee but my focus shifted (along with my career) In early 2017 something fairly life changing happened. A trigger at Uni lif...ted the lid on a horrendous Pandoras box, which resulted in a diagnosis of chronic PTSD. The neurochemical response I had left me physically and mentally pained. DIAGNOSIS: Needs to run! ....along with some SNRIs and an awesome psychologist So here I am; back running (if you can call it that). And today I walk/ran Lake Wendouree for the first time since 2012. 853 per kilometer, but I did it. It was very peopley. It was hard work. I had to remind myself not to be ashamed of how I look, how short my stride is, that my style of run doesnt quite look the way a text book says it should, or that my pace is too slow. I ran for ME. I ran 6km further than I did yesterday. I ran 6km further than if I had taken the easy option and just stayed in bed. I ran to remind myself that I can. 01.01.2022 This week is National Mental Health Week. Campaigns like these are designed to increase awareness around chronic conditions. But for some of us, every week is mental health week. Having lived with anxiety, depression and PTSD for most of my adult life, I can attest to the significant benefits that exercise can have on mental health. Exercise for your body and your brain
