25.01.2022 An amazingly small turnout for 300 metres on what was an outstanding afternoon for the middle of winter on the central tablelands. The field of ten shooters were treated with picture perfect weather with a gentle breeze ranging from 11 to 1 on the clock but was of such a mild nature it didn’t really take a lot of keeping up with. Greg and Ben Emms made it another father son double with the elder taking F Class with an excellent 120.15 whilst the younger wobbled them around a ...bit managing 150.23 - although the first ten in each stage only equated to 114.8 on the F Class target - so some improvement is still required. Members are reminded the AGM is scheduled for the first Saturday in August - that’s the 1st of August - so two weekends away. Mark it in your diary. This coming Saturday we are back as per the program after the chopping and changing due to wet weather. Shooting will be from 600 yards. Note we are half way through the second last round of the championship for 2019/2020. After we get back up to 7 and 800 yards we have one last go through for the year. It’s time to make those scores count from here on in. Both races for the Target Rifle and the F Class champs look like coming down to be very tight finishes. Have a great week.

23.01.2022 Saturday saw us once again back at 800 yards - making up for some rain affected days earlier in the championship - for the last weekends shooting for the year that was 2020. Keith Hills continued his recent good form taking advantage of the somewhat milder conditions this week to top the day with a solid 116.07. He was very closely followed by Barry Plowman with with 115.08 and Malcolm Austin Lindsay Sharp 115.02. TR had Ben Emms 150.21 ahead of Jim Jeffery 147.13 and Mark Th...urtell 145.14. Next Saturday being Boxing Day will see the range closed with the first Saturday in 2021 seeing shooting from 300 metres. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our members, families, friends and supporters the merriest of festive seasons and may 2021 be devoid of all the troubles that have followed us throughout 2020.

22.01.2022 Fantastic spring weather saw eleven marksmen front the 500 yard mo7nd for the final range of the Fagan Memorial trophy this afternoon at Lyndhurst. Keith Hills was quick to make amends for his lament of the last few weeks of oh for what might have been but for a poor start taking full advantage of the days conditions with a solid 120.09. Keith was closely followed by Vickie Ralph Garlick with 119.07. TR saw Jim Jeffery getting the chocolates from Ben Emms 150.27 against 150....26 Next weekend will see the club hosting the NSWRA State Team as they commence their campaign for the National Teams championships which will be held in Brisbane in June 21’. On Saturday evening we will take the opportunity to have a bbq dinner with our guests so if your available please attend. Shooting next Saturday afternoon will be from 500 metres. Until then have a great week.

20.01.2022 Please be advised due to the developing COVID19 situation in Sydney the annual CWDRA Open Championship due to be held in January has been cancelled. On another note have a great Christmas and New Year. Hopefully this COVID business gets back under control quickly and life can get back to some semblance of normal!

18.01.2022 The start of the New Year saw a good turn out of 13 shooters take the mound on a day that saw a couple of thundery storms rolling around the area but which somehow managed to only clip us with a light shower. Greg Emms showed there was life in the old dog yet top scoring the field with an outstanding 120.12 - he referred to it as Custer’s last stand! Regardless certainly fantastic shooting highlighted by the fact he edged out Keith Hills - 119.14 - who has been in top not...ch form over the last few months with some first class scores to his credit - evidence of which can be seen in one of the pictures attached - a bit of group centring and you’ll have it sorted old son In TR Ben Emms managed to make it a father / son day topping the section with a solid 150.27 although somehow being able to poke three into the bullseye area . Ben was followed by a long lost shooter (hopefully now back on a permanent basis) in Les Fraser 150.17 showing he hasn’t shed any of his ability in the lay-off and Josh Gordon shooting very nicely with 150.16. As most would be well aware the CWDRA Open Championship that was programmed to be run next week end has been cancelled due to the latest COVID outbreaks . Hopefully 2021 will see this nonsense quickly brought under control - personally it is seriously starting to piss me off! I’ve got a passport that is running out of date with no stamps going in the bastard!! Next Saturday will see shooting from 500 yards for the second round of the President’s Cup until then have a great week!

17.01.2022 Another fantastic spring day at Lyndhurst for the final range of the 2019 / 2020 Club Championship. Conditions were near to perfect with a fresh breeze to start from almost due North which eased as the afternoon went on to be just a zephyr by later in the day. A good turnout of 13 shooters were on hand to take full advantage of the day and make up whatever ground was left available in the Championship race. In F Class Keith Hills continued his domination with a very solid 12...0 with 11 x’s. Keith was followed by Greg Emms with 118.8 - Greg’s late season form by the way has been excellent - if it had appeared just a little earlier in the year the F Class race would have been somewhat closer. Target Rifle was once again a very close affair with Jim Jeffery getting the chocolates for the third week running with 150.23 from Ben Emms 150.22 and Mark Thurtell 150.20 Whilst the major results in the championship race were decided last week the margins did change a little. F Class with all scores tallied saw Keith Hills triumphant for the third straight year 1422.134 for the overall F Class win. Keith was followed by Greg Emms in a hard finishing second place 1409.112 which was also the the top of the F Standard brigade whilst Barry Plowman rounded out the top three with a credible 1395.094. Target Rifle ended with one of the closest finishes for many years going down to only centres separating Ben Emms in first 1798.288 and Jim Jeffery 1798.277 in second with Josh Gordon 1757.142 in third. This is Ben’s 6th straight win being his 13th overall which places him one behind the record 14 wins set by his grandfather Jack Emms between 1936 and 1979. Next Saturday will see the NSWRA medal for 19/20 being contested over four ranges - 300 metres, 600 yards, 700 yards and 800 yards. The format will be as per normal Lyndhurst conditions - 10 round stages for F Class and 15 round stages for TR. Shooting will commence sharply at 10.30am. Extras are welcome just give yell if you would like to join us for the day. Have a great week!

16.01.2022 With snow forecast for Saturday the NRA Medal that was scheduled to be contested has been postponed until the following weekend. If the weather is better than expected we will commence the 2020/2021 championship at 300 metres instead and then the following weekend contest the medal. Winter is never really that far away on the tablelands

16.01.2022 A great roll up this afternoon enjoying the excellent weather at 300 metres. Several visitors on hand as well which is always great to see including Josh Farr once again who is really starting to hit the middle with a bit of consistency now! In F Class Vickie Ralph Garlick continues to be very hard to best topping the day with a very solid 119.10 ahead of Malcolm Austin Lindsay Sharp and Keith Hills both with 118.9 TR was a limited affair with just Mark Thurtell and Ben Emms fronting for the day with Ben just getting the chocolates 150.27 from Mark with 149.19 Next weekend we are back to 500 yards and in the meantime have a great week!

14.01.2022 600 yards this afternoon with only a small turnout on another cold and damp winters day. Ralph Garlick was back on the firing line for the first time in a while and was straight back to the top of the field with a solid 119.11 just getting around Malcolm Austin Lindsay Sharp with 119.09. Target Rifle was very limited with only Jim Jeffery and Ben Emms fronting after Mark Thurtell broke a finger nail earlier in the week - sorry I meant to say his trigger finger - handy ...two weeks out from the biggest Queen’s prize in Australia since the world championships in Brisbane back in 2011. Anyhow, both continued their recent good form with Ben just finishing on top 150.26 against 150.24. Next Saturday will see us shooting from 700 yards. This will be followed by the Annual General Meeting which should get underway by no later than 4pm. Members are all urged to attend if possible. Have a great week. Ps - learn to use another finger quick Turtle!

11.01.2022 500 yards yesterday afternoon enjoying stunning spring weather once again. Conditions were light although just doing enough switching just slightly and crossing the centre line, catching the unwary. Keith Hills returned to his normal form this week after a small hiccup with ammunition selection last week putting in an excellent 120.12. New member Clint Armstrong was second on the day with 119.11 ruffling the feathers of his coach Greg Emms who was third with 119.08 Top stu...ff Target rifle was a limited field with a couple of absentees. Ben Emms headed the day with 150.21 from Jim Jeffery 148.19 and Graeme Bright 147.14 We had a bit of fun afterwards with a 1916 vintage Lithgow 303 of yours truly. After getting it zeroed in JJ showed some great style with it. He obviously can still remember what he was taught on the SMLE when he started back in 65 as a 12 year old - he would have made an old Turk keep his head down at any rate!

11.01.2022 The second last round of the 2019/2020 season from 700 yards on a picture postcard afternoon with a good turnout of 15 shooters on hand to enjoy it. Jim Jeffery was back on top with an excellent 150.19 being the only double for the afternoon. He was followed closely by Ben Emms just doing enough with 149.16. This score now takes a Ben to 1798.288 in the championship with Jim now on 1797.276. Jim can improve one further point next week but with a 149.22 even with 150.30 can on...ly reach 1798.284. It’s indeed a good competition when after twelve months it comes down to a few centres separating the leaders. In F Class Ralph Garlick made a welcome return to the winner’s circle with 116.06 just edging out Keith Hills same score but on a count back . As mentioned last week the F Class Championship is already decided with Keith firmly secured in first place with Greg Emms looking hard to shift from second and Malcom Sharp in third. Next Saturday will see our Championship season conclude at 800 yards with the following week seeing the NRA medal being shot over four ranges 3,6,7 & 8. Have a great week.

08.01.2022 The QRA Queen’s Prize on the line! The standings after the final 900 yards range this morning and with the Final 15 shots at 1000 yards to go. A bit of wind about - anyone’s game!

08.01.2022 Lyndhurst had the pleasure of hosting on the weekend the NSWRA State Team for the start of their 2021 campaign for the National Teams Championship to be held in Brisbane next June. Shooters travelled from as far north as Mungindi and as far South as Leeton for the weekends training which was the first get together held since COVID shut the world down. A great time was had by all with some very impressive shooting on display from some of the countries top marksmen and markswom...en ! Going on the form shown over the weekend they will go into the New Year with every confidence of be able to do well in the upcoming prestigious matches. With the state team training there were no TR shooters going around in the domestic competition on Saturday leaving the floor solely to the F Class brigade. Greg Emms was back to his better for after a couple of off weeks topping the day with a sound 118.8 from Barry Plowman 116.10 and Keith Hills 116.9. Next week will see shooting from 600 yards. Remember our Annual Presentation day and Christmas Party will be held on the 5th of December. Until then have a great week!

07.01.2022 The spectre of the AGM after shooting must have kept numbers down with only eight marksmen fronting the mound on what was another glorious mid winters afternoon. Conditions were moderate with just a light wind from the left causing a little trouble from the 700 yard mound. Ralph Vickie Ralph Garlick continued his good form from last week to top the day with 117.6 just ahead of Keith Hills with 116.7. In target rifle it was Ben Emms - after a rough start - just ahead of Mark ...Thurtell 148.22 against 148.17. Mark.’said broken finger certainly wasn’t helping his cause although with ten days to go before the QRA Queen’s prize he may well have just enough time up his sleeve. The AGM was held after shooting with all office bearers returned to their relative positions. Principally Ben Emms returns as Captain, Mal Malcolm Austin Lindsay Sharp as Vice Captain and Josh Gordon as Secretary. This coming Saturday shooting will be from 800 yards. A number of members will be on their way to Brisbane for the highly anticipated Queen’s prize. Best of luck and safe travels to all heading north.

06.01.2022 The Duncan Memorial done and dusted - onto the first stage of the QRA Queen’s Prize tomorrow. Best of luck to all.

06.01.2022 Probably the most apt description for the weather this afternoon up on the hill at 800 yards is most likely not fit for publication - so let’s call it sporting! Keith Hills put on a master class in the most trying conditions - a blustery Northerly which put it coming at us from 11 to 3 on the clock face - and a wind bracket from 1/2 left to 7 right - but the most subtle of angle changes - anyhow enough of that Keith knocked home an outstanding 115.10 including a 59.7 not ba...d considering the next best - no slouch in Vickie Ralph Garlick - was 14 points adrift! In TR it was just Ben and Jim Jeffery fronting the wind. After a nice touch up in the first stage we decided to shoot Bisley style for the second and really have some fun! Hopefully neither of these scores are still standing at the end of this year’s championship! You’ll have to scroll the photos to find the scores - they shan’t be printed here! After shooting was completed we held our annual prize giving and Christmas party. Congratulations to all the prize winners with Keith Hills and Ben Emms securing the major trophies for the year. Once again atop night was had by all. Next week to get our championship back in line we will front up at 800 yard once again. God let’s all hope this dreadful wind we have had all this week is gone by then! Have a great week

05.01.2022 NSWRA Medal day at Lyndhurst with a field of 15 shooters enjoying an absolutely magic spring day in stark contrast to the wintery conditions of a week ago. The spring conditions with mild winds led to high scoring especially in the early session. The gentle breeze did increase a little in the afternoon causing a few points to be shed. The course of fire was over 300 metres, 600 yards, 800 yards and then 700 yards to finish. F Class opted to shoot 10 shots per range whilst TR ...were competing with 15 round stages. TR was a tight three way tussle between Mark Thurtell, Ben Emms and Jim Jeffery. In the finish it was Ben coming out just on top losing just the one point at the final range as did Mark with Jim just a couple of points further back. Final scores were Ben 299.47, Mark 299.41 and Jim 297.42 In F Class Geoff Willis from Bathurst joined us for the day out and ended up highest score shooting an FTR rig finishing with 235.12 with Malcolm Austin Lindsay Sharp coming in just behind with 234.14 and taking the medal with Greg Emms in third place on 229.13 A great day was had by all. Next week we are back to normal championship competition with shooting from 500 yards. Watch this space over the coming week we are hopeful of announcing a return to Open Championship shooting with fingers crossed a OPM to be run at the start of November. We will hopefully be able to confirm this by next weekend. Have a great week!

03.01.2022 Done and dusted for 2020. Mitchell Bailey doing it in style with our own Mark Thurtell taking a hard fought second place. Full marks to the Queensland Rifle Association on a fantastically well run event under the most trying of circumstances. Safe travels home to all and sundry God willing life will be back to something resembling normality sooner rather than later and we can all do it again sometime soon.

02.01.2022 600 yards at Lyndhurst this week as the 2019/2020 Championship year winds its way to a close with now only two more weeks to run. In what was picture post card conditions Greg Emms topped the F Class ticket with a very solid 120.10 the only clean for the day following on from some very solid form over recent weeks. Greg was followed by Keith Hills 119.9 and Bruce Rowlands a further point back on 118.9. In TR it was The Great Jim Jeffery ahead of Mark Thurtell both lock on 1...50.22 with only a count back on the last range 75.13 / 75.10 awarding the honours to JJ. So now with only 700 and 800 yards left to play in this years Championship F Class is already decided with Keith Hills in an unassailable position with the other boys all carrying too many rough scores from early in the year when conditions were truly wicked. In TR we still have a live game we’ll and truly on our hands with Ben Emms and Jim Jeffery in a hard fought tussle to the finish. Both can still reach 1799 as a possible score although Ben does hold a significant advantage on centres. This weekend at 700 yards will be critical for both. Have a great week!
