23.01.2022 Today marks the official end to the quietest fire season in more than a decade, a welcome and stark contrast to last year. This season, NSW RFS members have res...ponded to just over 5,500 bush and grass fires that have burnt 30,963 hectares across NSW, considerably less than the 11,400 fires and 5.5 million hectares lost last season. Thank you to our incredible members who continuously step up to help when called upon, protecting communities across the state

19.01.2022 The rain is welcome but it brings another risk. As grass dries out, the risk of dangerous grass fires increases. Grass fires are dangerous - they start easily and spread quickly. Check www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/grassfires for tips on getting ready this season. #NSWRFS

14.01.2022 The annual Emergency Services Volunteer Memorial Service is being held in Sydney this morning, remembering those volunteers from emergency services who have pai...d the ultimate sacrifice while protecting their community. Sadly eight names, all NSW RFS volunteers, have been added to the memorial this year. We will never forget the service of Michael Maria, Phillip Bell, Ian Long, Robert Panitz, Geoffrey Keaton, Andrew O’Dwyer, Samuel McPaul and Colin Burns. The memorial services is available to watch live online from 11am here: https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/news-and/volunteer-memorial-2020

13.01.2022 On this day last year NSW recorded 17 concurrent Emergency Warnings. Communities in the Blue Mountains, Clarence Valley, Richmond Valley, Walcha, Armidale, Namb...ucca, Kempsey, Tenterfield, and the Mid Coast were all being impacted by fire. At 6pm 94 fires were burning across the state. While the losses on that day were significant they could have been far worse were it not for the extraordinary efforts of firefighters and community members. See more

09.01.2022 What’s a Storz fitting ? It’s a fitting used by rural and town fire brigades to connect pumps, hoses, nozzles, hydrants or anything that needs a connection t...o fire fighting equipment. It’s the quickest way to make a connection rather than having to screw a fitting round and round up to ten times, the Storz fitting only requires a quarter of a turn. Any new houses or major extension rurally will usually have to have a Storz fitting attached to concrete or metal tank for fire fighting purposes. Even if your house is old, consider fitting a Storz fitting so your brigade has the capability to get water from your tank for fire fighting purposes. 65mm is the recommended size. See more

09.01.2022 1 year ago today. We will always remember these fire's and the efforts of our firefighter's, emergency services and communities. A thank you must also go to o...ur RFS Staff, Canobolas Zone and all Regions/Zones/Districts for the endless days and nights, many away from your families. Our thanks to you all cannot be measured. Please remember this is not a post about who did more or less, who was paid and who was not, it is about a shared horrific experience and our thanks to all. Take Care and look after yourselves. Remember to look out for each other, talk with friends, family and fellow members and if you need to reach out to CISS. 1800 049 933

03.01.2022 Today we’re taking the opportunity to thank all our members for their incredible and tireless efforts responding to incidents around the state. Though this fire... season has been one of the quietest in almost a decade, our members are still out there every day responding to various incidents and emergencies. To our members, thank you! Leave a message for our awesome members below. #RedBalloonDay2021

02.01.2022 Our combined Training Exercise on 31st October 2020 with SES and RFS from Gap, Woodstock and Lyndhurst RFS was very informative and we also discussed a future Mock Evacuation of Reflections Wyangala Waters to happen later in November TBA.
