25.01.2022 Today is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Childrens Day. This years theme #EldersOfTomorrow highlights the uniqueness and importance of the knowledge and wisdom of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and listening to children, the potential leaders of the future. https://bit.ly/3ftVsh3

25.01.2022 There were ten in the bed and the Police man said roll over, roll over .....so they all roller over and the duck fell out! Retelling familiar stories with props allows children to have a hands on approach to learning while focusing on sequence, language and rhyme. We added a few of our own changes; instead of the little one said we had it as the Police man said in a bed full of animals. The children found this quite humorous. I wonder if tonight your child might be able to tell you what animals were in the bed?

25.01.2022 Looking forward to seeing our Preschool and Occasional Care children and families tomorrow! Bring on Term 3!

25.01.2022 Applying and extending knowledge! Our children love information books and enjoy spending time in our library looking through books independently and with peers. Animals and bugs have been a high valued interest this year - and a group of children took their learning to the next level.... fine motor abilities were used - scissors, tape, hole punchers, twirling pipe cleaners, drawing. noticing patterns, colours and details within each project. using resources to guide their understanding and build more knowledge. feel proud of their achievements and explaining to others their process, their product and their knowledge about their item. They were persistent, resourceful, communicated with peers, sharing tools, turn taking and critical in their own work- amazing to see!!

24.01.2022 Today was about time ...... Time to appreciate and notice what was around us, time to try new equipment, time to feel and explore a range of sensory items, time to make sure we share/take turns and time to look after what matters to us most. Engaging children persisted with a variety of tasks today ..... take time to look at the photos below!

24.01.2022 A very Artful day! Marble painting, easel painting, table painting, drawing with a range of media - charcoal, Texta, pencils, pastels and heavy lead pencils to create a range of individual artwork! We were lucky enough to have Tara, from Tara Kate Arts to spend some time learning about self portraits for is to be part of the SALA gallery in Term 3.... Thanks! Weve all learnt new skills ready to try!

24.01.2022 Keys found in our car park

23.01.2022 On our way to our excursion to Mt Crawford, many children noticed the dams and reservoirs along the way. This inspired todays investigation and learning. Children created their own reservoirs using a range of loose parts (wood planks, pipes etc.) to make and block the water flow. ... Children made sink holes, and mixed cement to strengthen their bridge that travelled over the reservoir. They filled up and transported loads in the back of dump trucks and wheel barrows, while investigating which were the best shovels for the job. Capacity, volume and many other numeracy indicators have been investigated for this big project. Children were negotiating roles and turn taking by suggesting the next steps in their planning and production.

19.01.2022 Reminder enrolment forms are due! Come and meet and see us for registration and enrolment forms this week (week 10) ready for placement offers for 2021. School holidays are 4th July - 19th July

19.01.2022 Mix and Flick - Splatter painting. Today children had the opportunity to explore and experiment with pallet paints with out the restriction and worry of making mess. Being outside and having a hanging easel opened the experience up to big body movements (gross motor), to develop vital muscle strength, to strengthen a dominant hand preference and coordination. ... With the focus on the process rather than the product children were confident in their ability and felt a sense of pride in their completed images. There was lot of talk and use of language around the topic of colour mixing and creating their own new colours to suit their ideas. Some were new surprises from experimentation, others were done through prior knowledge of colour mixing.

19.01.2022 Have a happy and safe Easter Day

19.01.2022 Happy Monday!

18.01.2022 We’ve use our monkey friend during our time at Preschool. He is a great resource use for young children to bring calm, regulate and lower heart rates. This is great for adults to role model this too! Give it a go!

18.01.2022 Part one - block play Playing and building with blocks allows children to experiment with mathematical concepts like cause and effect, size, shape, height, area, levels, sorting and patterning. Block play sparks patience, persistence and focus. There was a lot of discussion, planning and testing that went into the construction of a performance stage. This group of children thought about the strength and balance of the base, the best method to construct each layer ...to make it safe, how many steps were need and how many blocks per step. See part two for the performance.

18.01.2022 PLAYGROUP IS BACK TOMORROW We are open tomorrow ready to welcome back families. There are some tweaks to the way we need to operate but it will not impact the childrens ability to have a great time. Please read the info within the image.

17.01.2022 Learning through following childrens interest. A group of children were building, and yes superheroes were the theme! Lets work with this ........ Creativity, colour naming, coding - matching colours to powers, construction of blocks (spatial awareness, tessellated blocks).... Then the children said we can draw this ..... Fine motor strength, grip, control.... Design, plan, creativity, decision making .... Confidence, self belief, persistence, resilient .. Scissor grip, control, turning paper..... Name writing- their own, their peers ..... Proud, satisfaction, accomplishment. Kindness - when you care enough to give your efforts to someone you care for. All done from self driven learning!

17.01.2022 Before lockdown announcements, Lyndoch Valley Family Centre, with the help from Barossa Council and some wonderful past, current and future parents helped to weed our new area and plant some trees for our verge near the Centre. This has been an amazing ongoing process by our governing council, our children, families and our community to not only create cool shade - but to continue our love and understanding of our environment, sustainability and wildlife. Thank you to everyone that has made this possible!

16.01.2022 On a hot day like today we ensure that there are plenty of activities available to cool their busy little bodies. Foot spa, misting system and tubs with creatures allow children to: have fun! communicate with peers... turn take and share experiment with cause and effect, and water displacement explore volume, measurement and capacity Children take increasing responsibility for their own health and well-being. -Throughout the day we have discussions How is your body feeling? What is that telling you? What can we do about it? Children need to learn about their body and the messages it is giving. To do this learning they may need help to notice these messages. You are looking a little red and sweaty, what can you do to cool your body down? If you get wet do you have spare clothes you can change into later? When your drink bottle is empty we can fill it up again

See part one below - the construction of the stage.

10.01.2022 Self help skills! At Preschool we encourage children to have a go at trying to look after their own items. This includes putting shoes on, putting things away (hats, jumpers), opening their own snacks and being responsible for their own belongings.... Yes, we encourage them to ask for help if they cant do it yet. With a bit of guidance and encouragement children feel proud of their own efforts! Each individual is at their own stage of being able to self help - each child grows in their own way. How can you encourage this? Get your child to carry and hang their own bag to kindy, unpack their own lunchboxes and drink bottles - it encourages self help skills and they know where their belongings are!

10.01.2022 Fine motor abilities! Children spent lots of time threading small objects onto plastic tubing. Using high concentration to hold the tubing still, picking up the small parts then using hand and eye coordination to thread objects was a fantastic challenge!... Some extended their learning by sorting, matching and even creating patterns! Children proudly wore their creations or packed them to share with loved ones!

We were lucky enough to have a high school student donate some hot x buns made by herself as part of her own learning!... Thank you so much for your generous gesture- the children were all great at spreading (holding a knife), holding the bun still while spreading and then eating them. This was a big brave step for those that weren’t sure if the wanted to eat them at first. Thank you so much to our wonderful Children! We hope you have a safe and enjoyable Easter break and the Easter bunny enjoys the carrot you took home!

04.01.2022 Kindy in the forest! A spontaneous effort of organising a session in the forest to follow on with our camping/safety/nature investigation and interests! Children used cameras to take photos of things that made them curious learners.... The children also built confidence and resilience in a new environment, while being able to revisit and build on previous experiences ( eg. fire pits). Children showed independence in looking after their own belongings, self regulating their own needs (food, toileting, heat, cold) and collaborative working with peers to solve challenges. An amazing day full of learning that exceeded our expectations!

04.01.2022 Cooking and staying safe with Fire! After careful planning, brainstorming and discussions with children we were able to have an amazing day around the fire. Creating safety measures and completing risk assessments with children we were able to set up an area where we could toast Marshmallows and wrap up corn cobs to cook in the fire!... Children were able to experience a variety of learning experiences - science - what happens to marshmallows when they get hot? Turn taking, fair sharing and waiting. Fine motor- wrapping corn in foil, can you see any of the yellow of the corn? Literacy- new vocabulary learnt, describing words, same, different. Tasting! The list goes on! What a great day!

04.01.2022 We are lucky enough to have families donate home grown fruit and veg! We have had oranges and lemons here today! We noticed: ... Smells, texture, patterns, size, differences/things the same and facial expressions!! We used words describing, naming and labelling different parts of the fruits. We cut in halves, quarters from a whole fruit. We discussed where they grow, how they grow - even by noticing the seeds inside our fruit. Data collection: what did they like the smell of? Which one taste better? Purpose of the fruit - squeezing, juicing, cooking activities, even dehydrating fruits!

04.01.2022 Interesting thought! We love how engaged our learners can be when they love what they are doing!

03.01.2022 This is why play is so important!

03.01.2022 Rainy days be like..... Science with 5min homemade playdough (no cooking involved) and it lasts for months and months. And its soft and not rubbery like the store bought stuff. 4 cups of plain flour... 1.5 cups of cooking salt 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil Mix all together Then add 3 cups of boiling water (coloured with food colour - as light or as dark as you like). Stir for a few min then once its cool enough, mix with your hands until you get dough like consistency. It might feel super soft and still a bit sticky but I would leave it like this and just play with it for a bit longer. If its still a bit sticky after 10min of playing, add a tiny bit more flour. When youre done playing, chuck it in an air tight container/snap lock bag. Next time you play it might need to be softened with a bit of water. It should last for about 6 months if stored air tight in between uses. Have fun! Great creativity involved and fine motor abilities strengthened!

02.01.2022 So what can you do with a few crates and a swing set? Team work, trajectory, planning, hypothesis, prediction, testing, cause and effect, risky play, stacking, positioning, order, pattern, negotiating, sharing, fair, counting down...... and lots of giggles! Who knew that loose parts could involve so much learning!

02.01.2022 Sensory awareness goes hand in hand with creativity. Sensory play arouses childrens imaginations, creativity and curiosity through exploration of texture, temperature and fun! Gloop is an interesting mixture with a unique texture and is great for sensory play. It is also great for learning about the concepts of what a solid and liquid is. UNDERSTANDING GLOOP WHATS IS HAPPENING? ... Solid or Liquid: Cornflour is made of lots of long, stringy particles. When water is added they do not dissolve in water, but they do spread themselves out. This allows the gloop to act both like a solid and a liquid. When you roll the mixture in your hands or apply pressure to it, the particles join together and the mixture feels solid. But if it is left to rest or is held up and allowed to dribble, the particles slide over each other and it feels like a liquid. Get messy and have fun while learning!! CHILDRENS VOICE I want it to stick to my hands. If you rub on it, it comes off. It is slimy and then crumbly. You need to mix the powder and water. It sticks then drips! INGREDIENTS -Cornflour (a cup or two will do) -Water (add small quantities at a time, slowly) -Food colouring (a few drops)

02.01.2022 Rainy day learning! Numeracy, prediction, measurement, noticing, turn taking, social skills and self help abilities all in action!

02.01.2022 For those that sacrificed and gave their lives so we could live ours, we will not forget.
