24.01.2022 So this year more than many there are so many losses and adversities to focus on, but, let’s face it in isolated Perth, we have been very lucky. We were largely unscathed by the bush fires that ravaged much of Australia early in the year and by the time that we all realised there was a pandemic brewing, we were lucky enough to have a sensible leadership at state and federal levels, and, possibly more importantly a community-focused population that care for each other enough to follow advice about how to manage what has become a truly frightful situation in many countries.

16.01.2022 Starting a family is often one of the main triggers for clients to either update their existing estate plans or begin the process of implementing a new one. For many of these young families, the key concern is who will look after their children if they both pass away and how will the estate be managed whilst their children are still minors.

15.01.2022 That's right, we are officially back in the office!

13.01.2022 A divorce is the legal termination of a marriage. Applying for a divorce order and then obtaining this order from the Family Court means that your marriage has ended and you are free to remarry should you wish to. For the Court to approve a divorce application, you must prove that you and your spouse have been separated for 12 months, that the marriage has irretrievably broken down and that there is no chance you will reconcile. A divorce order does not split your assets an...d belongings and it also does not determine who the children will live with or spend time with. It does, however, set time limits for a property settlement. If you would like further advice please don’t hesitate to contact us to make an appointment. For more information, please read our fact-sheet about divorce application in Perth. https://www.lynnandbrown.com.au//family-lawyers-p/divorce/

02.01.2022 Western Australian de facto couples have for some time been the only couples in Australia who were unable to divide superannuation following the breakdown of their relationship. This is due to the Western Australian Government not referring their powers to the Commonwealth to legislate over non-married couples when other states did, and then the federal government not doing anything about Western Australia’s unique position for a number of years after that did occur.

01.01.2022 Our law team looked fabulous at the District Court 50th Anniversary Black Tie Gala Dinner last month. It was a wonderful night connecting with the WA legal professionals.
