25.01.2022 Well I know it has been awhile since I last posted anything, but I would just like everyone to know that I am taking part in an exhibition to be held at Eskleigh Estate in Perth, Tas. (Home to the Launceston Art Society!) which opens tomorrow afternoon Sunday 27th October at 2pm. The exhibition is called Separate Rooms and I have a whole room to myself as does my father, Jack James, Aileen Gough, Phillip Austen and two other artists, Ruth Hutchison and Tim Archer, who just h...ave five paintings each. There is also a room of Eskleigh Resident’s artwork, which they produced during art therapy working in a class each week run by Aileen Gough and other helpers. Consider this your invitation to attend the opening - you will be able to enjoy wine, punch (possibly a beer but not sure) and enjoy a wonderful afternoon tea as well, at no cost. Everyone is welcome! Unfortunately I only have one work on display that was completed during the last year, as I am still not back to drawing yet, but things are definitely improving and I don’t think it will take long now before I am back into working on my commissions. Actually I have more work on display than anybody else exhibiting. Hope you can make it. Please feel free to msg me on 0407799572 if you would like to attend. See more

25.01.2022 I wish I had better news, especially to those of you out there who have asked me to do a picture for them, but I really am not feeling much progress with my hand yet. I keep trying to tell myself to have a go at another painting instead of a drawing, but just keep getting burning feelings through my thumb and into my hand. Not good at all, and I was told by my surgeon it could take a year!! Every time I think Yes, it is getting better! No, it is getting really painful again. Time will tell I guess. Hopefully insanity doesn’t set in first.

23.01.2022 Hi everyone. I am having trouble answering messages from people on my Facebook page and so can I please ask anyone trying to contact me if they could please send me a msg to my mobile number 0407799572 and I will reply or call you back. Especially you, Larna Williams! I don’t know what is going on sorry!

22.01.2022 Another recent commission drawn with pastel pencils on Colourfix paper of two dachshunds named Axle and Pickles.

21.01.2022 This is a recent commission I did with black and white charcoal on grey paper.

20.01.2022 This is one my latest commissions, a cat named Phoebe. Drawn with pastel pencils on a different paper I have never used before, possibly called Pastelmat, but I prefer Colourfix paper, which is like a fine sandpaper surface.

20.01.2022 This is one of my recent commissions. Jaz, who recently passed away unfortunately. Drawn with pastel pencils.

19.01.2022 This is my latest commission. Tash, a Tenterfield Terrier, unfortunately recently passed away. Drawn with pastel pencils on Colourfix paper.

18.01.2022 This was a pastel drawing of Jenny and Wayne.

17.01.2022 Back in 2017 I did another portrait of this girl, Evelyn Poppy, when she was only 1 year old. This drawing is of her when she was 4 years old. Both drawings are black and white charcoal on grey paper. Her grandmother was going to get a portrait done of her each year as she grew up, but time got away from her and years keep passing too quickly.

16.01.2022 I did this pastel pencil portrait of my son Jeremy’s girlfriend, Marnie, a few weeks ago too. (I think I may have made a few slight alterations since this photo was taken though.)

16.01.2022 I finally got around to doing this painting for the Great Western Tiers Art Award which was held at Deloraine in Tasmania a month ago. The theme was Close Encounters and it it had to be somewhere in the Meander Valley. It was the first painting I had done since my rabbit statue on the wall back in August (I think), so I was very pleased with it. I was even more pleased that it was the only painting to sell on the opening night. I was in shock! The mayor of the Meander Valley bought it, which made it even more amazing. I think there were about 44 paintings exhibited.

16.01.2022 This is my latest commission, a portrait of Monty the Labrador......one drawing when he was younger and healthier with his Christmas hat on, and the other when he had aged and become unwell, and actually, sadly, had his eyes removed, and recently he passed away. An absolute pleasure to draw though. Drawn with pastel pencils on Colourfix paper.

15.01.2022 Sooooo proud of my grandson, Jake, (just turned 9 in May) after he painted this trout and won 3rd Prize in the Primary School section at Launceston Art Society’s Celebrating Life Exhibition at Holy Trinity Church in Launceston, which finishes Friday 9th August. He also sold his painting and as you can imagine was over the moon when his name was called out. He is already trying to think about what he can paint for next year’s exhibition.

14.01.2022 I did this pastel pencil portrait recently too, for the boy on the left of the picture, who is now married. So this was from a very old photo.

14.01.2022 I painted this picture from photos I took in our garden and then added wrens. It is an acrylic painting on matt board. I did it for an upcoming exhibition The Esk Award but now the exhibition has been cancelled due to Eskleigh (Launceston Art Society’s home) being under shutdown due to the Coronavirus. Maybe one day we will get to still have it. It is our biggest exhibition of the year. I am glad I have been able to get some practice in with drawing and painting again, so as I can get back into doing many commissions that I have lined up.

14.01.2022 Another recent commission I have done of Stanley, a Golden Retriever. Also drawn with pastel pencils.

14.01.2022 Hi all! Just letting you all know that I still won’t be drawing for a while but tomorrow (11th May) I am having a stall at the Niche Market for Mother’s Day from 8am - 3pm at Albert Hall in Launceston, which raises money for St Giles. I have had to have lots of help since I can’t use my hand completely yet but after a lot of effort I have for sale mugs printed with some of my paintings as well as picture blocks, cards and about 21 paintings for sale. 20% of sales or orders... goes to St Giles. I hope it all comes together ok as I haven’t done this before. My daughter, Jodi, will be there with me all day tomorrow and today my brother-in-law, Graham, and my cousin, Tony, are helping me to get stands (delivered by my work mate at LAS, Carlene!) and tables into the hall ready to set things up on tomorrow. Tomorrow my dear hubby, Bruce, will help get things delivered and organised too. So if you are passing please say Hello. And Happy Mother’s Day for Sunday to all the mothers out there! See more

13.01.2022 Hi everyone out there! I know it has been a while since I have said anything, but unfortunately I am still not making much progress as yet when it comes to artwork. It is so annoying that I still can’t hang on to pencils for too long, as I still get lots of sharp pain through my hand. I tried doing some painting with acrylics yesterday and was happy with what I got done, but after pushing myself to work hard for four hours straight, I really suffered for it last night. I ...might have to wait a few days before trying again. I am really hoping that I will be able to complete this picture for an upcoming exhibition with the Launceston Art Society, Celebrating Life - which opens on 26th July at Holy Trinity Church in Launceston. It is so frustrating doing stuff all every day, when all I have done for years is draw and paint. I feel like I am slowly going insane! The last picture I completed was in October and I still have a number of commissions to do, plus more that I got after having my stall at the Niche Market, and another three in the last week. I just wish things would progress with my recovery a lot faster, but all I can do is live in hope. I hope everyone out there is having a better time than me, and I will let you know if this picture I am trying to paint actually works or not. It has also been hard for me not being able to work at the LAS hanging exhibitions this year. I feel so lost. Bye for now. See more

12.01.2022 I did this pointillism portrait of my son Jeremy a few weeks ago.

11.01.2022 This is another recent commission of Evelyn Poppy when she was 4 years old, drawn with black and white charcoal on grey paper. I did one a few years ago of her when she was only 1 year old, which I loved because she was cross eyed looking at a tennis ball she was holding out in front of her.

10.01.2022 A pointillism drawing with added colour from coloured pencils. I did it quite a while ago, probably at least 18-24 months ago, and found it in my drawer a few months ago, and decided to add the colour. I titled it When Will My Humans Be Home?

09.01.2022 I just want to say thank you to all the people commenting on my pictures and I am trying to reply to you all but for some reason only one reply has gone through in weeks, - and that was to you Sharon Dobson! I really don’t understand all this crap that keeps happening but really do appreciate your comments.

09.01.2022 I can’t believe that I am finally back to doing commissions! This is a black and white charcoal drawing on grey paper of Jenny. I was very pleased with this, as was her husband, Wayne.

08.01.2022 Hi everyone out there! I wish I was here to say something good but unfortunately I still am not able to do much in the way of drawing. So all those waiting on me for commissions, I am sorry but there isn’t much I can do about it yet. Feel free to contact me if you want to have a chat about anything. I really am keen to get back to drawing though as soon as I am able. Every time I think things are improving it all goes backwards again. It has been about 5 1/2 months since my operation and they did say up to a year! Grrrrrr!!!!!!

06.01.2022 I came across this drawing in my studio that I have never exhibited before, so I think I might frame it and also put it in the Celebrating Life exhibition at Holy Trinity next week. Might call it Arriving Home.

05.01.2022 This is a recent commission I did of a Labrador named Harvey. It was drawn with pastel pencils on Colourfix paper..

04.01.2022 I just want to let everyone know that the Launceston Art Society has an exhibition on at Pepper’s Hotel at Seaport. There are over 80 paintings in a corridor which runs from the reception area, to the large room on the eastern end of the building, where the main part of the exhibition is. It opened on 20th January and runs indefinitely. I will be there on Monday 3rd Feb from about 9.45am until about 2.30pm, but it is open daily, mainly via the reception area. I think over 30 artists are exhibiting, with works in lots of mediums and many different sizes, - some very large. Please come and enjoy. Some work was sold on the opening day and unfortunately already been taken.

02.01.2022 This was another recent commission for the same people as the last drawing was done for. This is Paddy who also has passed away. I had them framed together which worked well. This was also drawn with pastel pencils. The people I did it for were very happy to receive it as a surprise gift from their daughter.

02.01.2022 Hi again everyone. Unfortunately I still don’t have much good to say as yet. Still not driving either, which has been so annoying when I live in the bush, my husband, Bruce, works in Hobart and not in Launceston anymore, and will probably be down there for another three years!!! Pretty damned annoying! Having a big dog to walk constantly up and down the hill we live on through the bush, and having hip problems too, makes life a real task at the moment, but all I can do is keep my fingers crossed (those that are capable of crossing!) and look toward to a fantastic outcome so as I can get back to drawing. I’ll let you know when things progress!!

01.01.2022 Well I am pleased to say, that after a lot of effort, I have managed to finish this acrylic painting for a Launceston Art Society exhibition which opens on 26th July at Holy Trinity Church in Launceston. It is the first picture I have been able to finish since October last year. I have amazed myself, even though it wasn’t easy going. I have tried doing some drawing but as yet I still can’t hold pencils for very long, so it may still take me a little more time before I get back to my pastel pencils and get some of the many commissions done that I have to do. Sorry to those of you still waiting, but I am trying. I will let you know when things are getting even better. I am not sure what to name this yet, maybe Garden Statue and Wrens.
