25.01.2022 Fine motor skills are needed in many jobs - think electronics, science experiments etc. Art and crafts are a great way to build these skills and also increase creative thinking etc. Why not encourage your child to make something to exhibit at the wonderful Canning Show.
24.01.2022 Matilda Bay might be a good place to go for a walk with the children during the holidays just in case you are lucky to see something like this.
24.01.2022 A few spaces are left for term 3.
24.01.2022 Play is skill building work for childrens bodies and minds. This is a very interesting xray. Realistic expectations of a childs handwiting skills are so important if we want to have them feel confident and enthusiastic about writing. The suggestions in this post of how to build hand strength before we should be demanding neat writing are so correct. Like so much of the educational expectations we have of children now days, we forget the development and skill building that must come first. A 5 year old that can cut out on the lines has obviously had lots of good play experiences, a child at 8 who cant demonstrates that that they have not had enough play opportunities. Bring back play, art and craft and we will see so many more happy children.
23.01.2022 Something for us all to think about.
22.01.2022 I really like this info graphic. We have four amazing children and we pretty much did these phases (probably by accident more than design). They are now amazing adults who have great respect for themselves and all they come in contact with. We are very proud of them. It was sometimes hardwork being the adult but it has paid off big time.
22.01.2022 Whats nice about this is this child is given the opportunity to do this and not kept in cotton wool.
21.01.2022 This is some wonderful information about the seasons identified by Noongar Aboriginals. Share it with your children and friends.
21.01.2022 It is wonderful that he is following his passion.
21.01.2022 Yes please, handwriting is easy when you have exercised your hands and brains before starting to write.
20.01.2022 Wow this a a child living life to the full.
20.01.2022 Not sure who wrote this but it is well worth reading and sharing.
20.01.2022 Do you know anyone whose first language is not English and would be interested in improving their basic skills? Small group lessons are in the planning stages. We will be looking at combining, from the beginning, reading, speaking, and spelling to maximise the learning opportunity for ESL adults. Reading For Sure improves pronunciation skills as well as it focuses on the phonetic sounds of the English language.
19.01.2022 This is actually an American teacher but what he says is applicable here as well. Normally he looks on the lighter side of things but today he is looking at the pandemic and its impact on students. His accent is great.
19.01.2022 Yes, I worry that children don't seem to 'think' anymore.
18.01.2022 I hope this young girl is ok and found soon.

12.01.2022 Love the otters at the Perth zoo.
12.01.2022 New climbing roses at the front of the office are coming on a treat. The old ones used to be lovely little pink ones but we think that rootstock shoots may have taken over because there were hardly any flowers this year. In a couple of years, the display will be spectacular from these new ones I think.
12.01.2022 Mini golf is always great family fun.
12.01.2022 This might be something for those who would like to watch ballet. Or if you have not seen ballet before, give it a try. The costumes are amazing and the athletic skill and grace is beautiful to watch.
12.01.2022 This looks like a really lovely show. Abc has lots available for the kids at the moment. I think I will try and catch this one.
11.01.2022 Learning success in the long term is impacted, to a large extent, on what children learn before they read, write and count. Missing out on play and brain development opportunities in the race to show off a childs reading and counting at an early age means that these children are short-changed and so often need expensive professional intervention in Primary school. Encourage play and curiosity in your child before everything else.
11.01.2022 What a great idea. Many children have not even eaten at a table. As parents, it is our job to prepare our children to be successful adults and using a knife and fork and table manners is important.
11.01.2022 Nice cheap way of giving the children some paint to do artwork. Still lovely weather in Perth so set them up out side on the grass with an old shirt on and let them go for it. After they have finished you can hose the table etc. down if they have got paint eveywhere and throw the shirts in the wash. Lots of fun for the kids and easy to clean up.
10.01.2022 Share this with anyone you know who has an adult family member with Autism. This might be the job they have been looking for.
09.01.2022 Here is a great link to information on the seasons of the year as identified by the Noongar people. 6 seasons make so much more sense than the 4 seasons that reflect the European climate not really ours. I am going to try and learn these.

08.01.2022 This looks like a fun hairdressers for children.
08.01.2022 This ladies story puts education into perspective. Missing a few weeks or months of intensive education will not ruin your childs future. Keep them reading and doing lots of hands on activities and they will be able to catch up the rest.
07.01.2022 School is heading back and so we here at Lynnes Reading For Sure Tutoring have decided to see students at the office again. Skype classes are still available for those that would still like to isolate. Western Australia seems to be doing really well so lets hope it stays that way.

03.01.2022 Effort and interest should always be encouraged first. Not everyone can be an A student in everything but we all can learn and make a positive contribution to this world in our own unique ways.
03.01.2022 This is so true. Reading takes you places you could never go in real life.
03.01.2022 I havent read this book but it looks like a great idea.
03.01.2022 Aren't these guys lovely? It is so much fun being on the committee of this sanctuary. Just need to find time to get there a little more often.
