24.01.2022 Most people were staying warm, dry and out of the rain last night in #Melbourne, but not us! We were soldering up tails on custom length LED strips in the Epping Plaza carpark, for our job last night of upgrading the tired old lighting in Famous Footwear's Epping store. Some jobs just can't be completed during trading hours, and we're not scared of a little overtime. The great thing about the arduino community is you can find already written code for almost any project. 19.01.2022 We have been completing a tonne of service calls all over Melbourne this month, but these two in particular I thought were worthy of a little story. 1. First up we have a typically damaged GPO, the interesting thing about this one is the customer described it over the phone as a "damaged power point cover" doesn't sound too sinister does it? She lived with it for quite sometime before flagging it, so my advice to everyone out there is if you see something like this, call your... electrician straight away. This was a potential death waiting to happen, and yes the customer only took it seriously after she got a tingle off it, it could have been so much worse. 2. A standard retail service call: fault find some dead LED strips. Sounds easy enough, but not so easy when all the control gear is hidden in a totally inaccessible area. Luckily I was able to make an access hole at the rear of the display and fish out the drivers. My advice for this one is for the installers out there: Please think about how you are going to service the equipment you are installing in the future. I'm all for cracking a few eggs to make an omelette, but this could have been much less painful. 18.01.2022 Handover day for probably one of our coolest projects to date. This custom built digital signage/menu display with LED backlit "open" sign was designed, built and installed by LZ Electrical & Data. Our client wanted to fill this blank space in their window with a LED lit lightbox which they could place their menus and specials with the ability to update them regularly. Initially it was going to be paper only, but I suggested, "why not go digital?" For this system to be user f...riendly and easily updatable, the best option was to utilise a Raspberry Pi. With the software installed our client is now able to update the screen in a matter of seconds via their phone, tablet or PC. I designed this project to be as plug as play as possible. As well as displaying images, it can also stream the real-time weather, news and video from the Internet. 09.01.2022 Our latest project Amcal Express Pharmacy in T2 terminal at Melbourne Airport comes to a close. We had the pleasure of building and installing all new edge lit LED lighting around the new shopfront/entry portal, replacing the tired old pelmet/perimeter lighting with new LED strip and upgrading the switchboard. The entry portal lighting houses 8 metres of 2x continues LED strips on either side of the transom, coming in at whopping 57 watt per metre, it definitely catches your... attention! 09.01.2022 Sign restoration complete. This was great little project to complete over the christmas break. When we initially removed the sign not a single globe was working, and the globes were all hard-wired, which means there was no way of replacing the globes without dismantling the sign. Due for handover tomorrow, the team are cleaning up the last lose ends, including the 70 metres of individually wired LED strip for this display shelving. Over 30 led strips have been installed at lengths varying from 1 metre to 3 metres.... The boys have done in incredible job.
