24.01.2022 A beautiful assessment by Matt McKee of BWS Lawyers on a recent case on tax deduction of work related expenses. It goes to show that even the best of authorities are not free from error of judgement.

23.01.2022 While taxpayers might be planning to claim a higher ‘work from home’ deduction, ATO is expecting lower tax deductions on car and work uniform expenses. After all if you worked from home for three months of the year it is fair to expect these expenses would drop! Bottom line, be accurate in making your claims, take sound professional advice and be prepared to prove them! #tax #taxtime #mgaaabouttax

23.01.2022 An alternative approach could be to get businesses sit for a retest in July. If qualified, they could continue at full $1,500 per FN for eligible employees. If they don’t, It indicates a recovery. Jobkeeper payments for them could be reduced to say $1,300 per FN or even lower. #JOBKEEPER

18.01.2022 This case is a grim warning for employers with long term casual employees. Even after paying 25% casual loading you maybe up for leave entitlements! #labourlaw #unfairfairwork

16.01.2022 A caution to accountants and their investor clients who might consider Sophisticated Investor category an easy choice! Article courtesy Mark Wilkinson of BDO

11.01.2022 For those who might have inadvertently made a mistake of accessing their super, best to disclose voluntarily. Taxes and penalties on withdrawal might apply. #tax #super #Covid-19

10.01.2022 Early tax cuts could be the news you are looking forward to! Read this AFR article on what to expect in October budget.

09.01.2022 My take on Jobkeeper: Yes Jobkeeper warrants a review. No it shouldn’t be scrapped midway, maybe reduced for those businesses which have qualified but do not need it as much. ... Yes it should perhaps be extended to work visa holder. They came to Australia on promise of getting work and are equally doing it tough. Australia needs to respect our promise. Yes 30% reduction in turnover is a fair test. Most businesses run at 25% to 30% GP and 15% to 20% NP ratio. At 30% reduction in turnover means they are barely surviving. Yes extending Jobkeeper for industries that are really doing it tough is critical. Yes it’s important to save where possible. We don’t want our kids paying for this splurge. #Jobkeeper #accountants #tax

08.01.2022 Jobkeeper : Enrolling for June and Beyond I think the most important line in this critical piece from Accountants Daily is; With the 31 May deadline now passed, employers who are looking to enrol for subsequent JobKeeper fortnights have now been reminded to complete both Step 1 and 2 before the end of the first fortnight that they are claiming for. ... For those businesses hoping to be eligible from first week of June, the cut of to register and complete step 2 is 7th June, 5 days from now! If you miss this date, you loose Jobkeeper for FN5. #jobkeeper

08.01.2022 Team MGAA wishes us humanity with health and happiness, peace and joy, in this year of Hope. Happy 2021.

06.01.2022 A very important reminder for those wishing to claim home office expenses this tax time. As highlighted by Mr Gardiner of NTAA, please make the effort of preparing a 4 week diary to make a legitimate claim. Contact us if you need further clarity. #tax #taxdeduction #taxtime

02.01.2022 If your business is on Jobkeeper, now is the time to call your accountant to check if any of these employees could be eligible; 1. New employees hired on or before 1 July 2020 2. Employees turned 18 yrs of age on or before 1 July 2020 3. Long term casuals completing one year of service on or before 1 July 2020
