13.01.2022 Restoration Project. A project that I completed with my son Billy, (he was about 13 yrs at the time) and daughter Heidi and Nick Sutherland as labourers. The jo...b required some re-bricking of a wall with some tuckpointing above a few of the windows at the Warialda Courthouse. The Courthouse was built in 1883 and tuckpointing requires pointing (brickwork) with coloured mortar finishing with a narrow groove which is filled with fine white lime putty which is allowed to project slightly. Very interesting job and one that made me appreciate the skills of the pioneering bricklayers. Sourcing the correct mortar colour was difficult. My son pointed out that the original ochre was probably locally based but we did not have luck in finding any ochre supplies. With some ingenuity, we managed to get a result that was fairly consistent with the existing mortar colour. See more
