19.01.2022 Mac and Co Lawyers is sad to report that the Bill to Decriminalise Sex Work failed today at Parliament. In June it had passed the Upper House and the future looked promising. Sex workers deserve protections just like any other worker. They should not be arrested, shamed before a court and convicted just for trying to make money to support themselves and their families. The fight to decriminalise will continue. ... Sincerely, Jessie MacGillivray Principal

17.01.2022 There will only be justice for our mum if the police involved in her death are criminally investigated and held accountable. We know that police targeted our m...um for being an Aboriginal woman. We know that police ignored her in the police cell and left her to die on the floor. We know that the police officers’ decisions were infected with racism. We hope that the findings in our mum’s inquest will give us the truth and justice we need to move on. Hundreds of Aboriginal people have died in police custody, including our great uncle and our mum, but no police officer has ever been held criminally accountable. This is because a system that lets police investigate other police officers, essentially lets police off the hook. Unless the system changes, unless institutions are forced to deal with systemic racism, then more Aboriginal people will die in custody. https://www.hrlc.org.au//coroner-to-hand-down-findings-tan

09.01.2022 Using mobile phones while driving Distraction is leading to deaths on our roads. When you hear that notification, reward yourself for not checking it until you have arrived at your destination If you must use a mobile while driving, remember: you need to have bluetooth enabled so that you do not touch your phone at all to make or receive a call... You can use a commercially made cradle to hold you phone while you make or receive calls no texting, video calls or messages, emails etc using the above methods Learners and P1 drivers cannot use a mobile phone while driving under any circumstances. 03.01.2022 This is for all the people who are required to have police clearances for 'working with vulnerable people' or for character tests (e.g registration with a professional body). If you have spent conviction (i.e one that is older than 10 years or a 'without conviction' finding) you may be at risk of your offence still showing up on a police clearance. We are standing by and ready to help. https://macandcolawyers.com//spent-convictions-the-next-l/
