25.01.2022 Another great piece by Samir Shakouri

24.01.2022 Happy Father’s Day all the dads out there, I hope there’s a turning tool amongst all those socks ... and for those missing your day I’m feeling your pain and missing mine too but having fun remembering the good times

23.01.2022 Over the past few weeks Trainiee John Lees has been working on a bowl made from hSpalted Banksia salvaged from the side of the road in Port Botany. There was a mix up with measuring the bottom thickness and the bottom was cut right through while turning the foot off. Since it was a special piece of timber the decision was made to save the piece. After a lot of umingnahhring and looking at all angles a plan was put to together. A piece of Black hearted Sassafras was used... to plug the hole and receive the tenon on top of the stand made from Queen Ebony and another tenon attached the White Oak base. Considering the available timber, I think it all matched very well and the overall piece is now outstanding! The original lesson was to learn how to cut soft spalted timber cleanly but John got to learn much much more! Well done John, it looks fantastic! See more

22.01.2022 Shout out to Samir Shakouri (Sam) one of our long time members and Master segmented turner ... may you always continue to wow and inspire us my friend.

20.01.2022 G’day all! Due to the current situation we still don’t have an idea of when our meetings can resume more than likely I wouldn’t expect to go back till at least February 2021 but it is what it is Whoever Tuesday night training at my place is still going strong with two new trainees and potential members and more enquiries a few times a month... I know have a waiting list which means the love and passion for the art and craft of woodturning is still alive and well Anyway I’ll post a few photos of what the trainees have been up to lately.

18.01.2022 It’s great to watch a master apply his trade

17.01.2022 Here's a wealth of info https://youtu.be/aUXil-5dEeo

16.01.2022 A project post by Samir Shakouri (Sam) BALL BEARING made of wood Three years ago, I bought the wooden balls because the idea of making the wooden ball bearing was in my mind since then. Few days ago, I decided to go ahead all the way alone with my dream idea. I have not seen anyone had done that before. I maybe the first woodturner who took the challenge.I may try again to improve it including making the balls next time. 140 mm in diameter

15.01.2022 Another good night was had this past Tuesday night 3rd November. Sandra completed her first bowl made from silky oak, she’ll be learning How to reverse chuck and remove the foot next week... well done Sandra! Lee Brown turned his first pen from a reclaimed blank with spalting... well done to you also Lee! Greaham is doing a Camphor laurel bowl while John Lees is busy with a bowl also but of African Olive, both with spectacularly beautiful figure to it with fantastic colouring. Collin’s having fun with a natural and rustic Vase made from some type of poplar, Colin’s really becoming quite proficient with these.. I’m excited to see it and the two bowls finished off next week!

13.01.2022 Emergency Christmas present.... not bad for an hour knock up by yours truly (Steve McGrady)

12.01.2022 Well it looks like we still won’t have a meeting till the end of September but finally Tuesday Night are getting back to full swing... this past Tuesday we saw new trainee Sandra learn bead and hollow and will do her first project next week, James brought along some type of ornamental cedar to turn a natural edged bowl while John an I did a little re-sawing for cheese boards, 2 Jarrah Burl and some Jacaranda. Lastly John set up for a Jacaranda goblet which will be finished next Tuesday... all in all a fun night.

10.01.2022 Ashley is beautiful in every sense of the word and is probably a far better turner any of us will ever be .... in this short video she gives a little bit of wisdom and advice, worth a watch https://youtu.be/xYM4OtoTQFE

10.01.2022 Here’s a great piece sent in by Christian Reynolds. The wood is Peppercorn that came from the late John Jewell’s stack, it’s not woodturning but rather wood carving. Carved with an arbortech And finished with wipe on matte poly.. what a great Job Christian, thanks for sending it to me.
