24.01.2022 Did you know that there are almost 2,000 NSW Rural Fire Service brigades across the state? 1,996 to be precise. Each brigade brings together groups of community...-minded people from all walks of life who volunteer their time to serve and protect the community. The Milsons Passage Brigade is unique in that it’s a boat brigade. The small community, accessed only by water, has just 44 houses - with most of them backing onto bushland. Though the community is small, they make a mighty brigade with 39 members. Join your local brigade today. Visit www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/volunteer

20.01.2022 Today we will pause to remember the life of Sam McPaul, a volunteer from the Morven Brigade, who lost his life while protecting the community on this day last y...ear. Sam, a young father to be, was killed when a freak weather event flipped the fire truck he was on while battling fires in southern NSW. Commissioner Rob Rogers will today broadcast a message of support to volunteers in the area today, and they will hold a moment's silence to reflect. Tomorrow, we will also remember the passing of Colin Burns from the Belowra Brigade, who lost his life on New Years Eve last year. 25 people lost their lives last bush fire season - our most challenging fire season in our history. We remember all of them at this time of year. 07.01.2022 This National Volunteer Week we’re sharing stories from just some of our incredible members. Meet Elisabeth Goh who joined the Hornsby Heights Rural Fire Brigad...e in 2018 thanks to her mum’s encouragement for her to belong to something bigger and give back to the community. Elisabeth has a strong focus on community engagement in her role with the brigade. She encourages her fellow members to find what they’re passionate about at their brigade, whether it’s community engagement, engineering, catering, or several other roles. Based on some of her experiences, Elisabeth has created photo essays where she shares what it’s like to be a firefighter with the NSW RFS. 07.01.2022 Fireworks Cause Grassfire and Damage Property. Fireworks are a feature item for NYE and signal the start to the New Year. #Campbelltown #Camden and #Liverpool Councils and venues contract professionals to supply high quality fireworks and undertake safe and planned displays ... Unfortunately, there are many illegal sellers that provide fireworks of various quality to anyone who is willing to take the risk Fireworks are Illegal in NSW for unlicensed operators. Firefighters, volunteer and paid, attend many fires started by these illegal fireworks each year especially during NYE celebrations. These fires often result in damage to property, burns to people lighting fireworks and trying to protect their property. These burns are painful and often need treatment by Ambulance and Hospital. Some fireworks are low quality and are unstable, fuses burn faster than they should and burns to the hands and face are common. Councils have links on their websites to vantage spots to watch the fireworks. Best of all, you won’t get hurt or arrested Think how you want to end 2020 Have a Safe and Happy New Year From Everyone at the NSW Rural Fire Service.

01.01.2022 This Morning #macarthur #communications and Sutherland Communications Rural Fire Brigade members completed their Communications Centre Assistant course boosting the skills within the NSW Rural Fire Service Macarthur and NSW Rural Fire Service Sutherland Shire districts. Their assesment comprised of a short theory test and then a practical scenario testing their skills under pressure. Ashberg, a fictional town the RFS use for most practical training activities, had a motor veh...icle accident, automatic fire alarm and finally a fairly decent grass fire. A massive thank you to Tracy, Karen and Tom from the brigade as well as Jason and Adrian from NSW RFS - Georges River Brigade for their assistance in the course and assessment today. #training #macarthur #camden #campbelltown #nswrfs
