23.01.2022 Macarthur Legal Centre wishes all community members a wonderful Christmas and New Years’ period. Please note that some of our services have changed operating hours during the holiday period. Macarthur Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (MWDVCAS) is open throughout the Christmas and New Year period they will be closed on Public Holidays only. Please call (02) 4640 7333 for support.... Our legal service is closed to the public between 18 December 2020 and 18 January 2021. If you require urgent legal assistance during this period you can try contacting LawAccess, Legal Aid NSW, or a private solicitor.

21.01.2022 The holiday period has given us time to rest and reflect on some of the highlights of 2020. One of those moments was in November, when Campbelltown City Council, NSW hosted a Caring for You morning tea to acknowledge and thank a number of organisations servicing Campbelltown, including Macarthur Legal Centre, who have helped to care for our community during the COVID-19 period. The event was hosted on the patio of Glenalvon House, a heritage-listed sandstone homestead buil...t in 1840, which is managed by the Campbelltown and Airds Historical Society. Melissa Jówiak and Andre Stepanov attended on behalf of Macarthur Legal Centre and had a wonderful time hearing about the fine work of many community organisations during what was certainly a challenging year. Many thanks to Campbelltown City Council and the Campbelltown and Airds Historical Society for including Macarthur Legal Centre at the beautiful morning tea.

You may contact us by telephone (02) 4628 2042 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between 9:00 am and 4:30 pm.

21.01.2022 Yesterday the Camden/Wollondilly Domestic Violence Committee hosted its annual Say No 2 DV Breakfast. This event is usually held at the Camden Civic Centre, Camden, however, as with many things in 2020, adjustments were made and the event was hosted in a virtual format. The Say No 2 DV Breakfast wasn’t run in the same way this year, but the Committee and those of us who participated in the event made our views very clear: WE STILL SAY NO TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE!... Businesses and organisations who made a $100 donation had the opportunity to film themselves with the message We still say no to Domestic Violence. These clips were shown at the conclusion of the breakfast. Over $2000 was raised from the virtual breakfast these funds will be donated to Blue Wren House Camden Women’s Shelter. It was great to have the support of the NSW Attorney General, Mark Speakman, at the breakfast as well as the Camden Local Member and the Camden and Wollondilly Mayors. Thank you, also, to Camden Council, Wollondilly Council and Macarthur Gateway for the financial support. Congratulations to Tanya Whitehouse, Manager of the Macarthur Women’s Domestic Violence and Court Advocacy Service, and the Camden/Wollondilly Domestic Violence Committee for once again putting on a successful Say No 2 DV Breakfast !

14.01.2022 The Victims Rights Commissioner has proposed changes to Victims Support which will deny victims-survivors of crime the supports they have a right to and need. We call on the Commissioner and the Attorney General to stop proposed Victims Support changes and start victim-survivor led review. #IStandWithVictimsSurvivors

08.01.2022 Across Australia, children as young as 10 can be imprisoned. We need to end this archaic practice. Anyone with a 10 year old knows it makes sense to raise the age of criminal responsibility. Decades of research and medical science back this. We call on all levels of government in Australia to lift the age of criminal responsibility and keep kids out of prison #RaiseTheAge

02.01.2022 For over 25 years, Tanya Whitehouse, Coordinator of Macarthur Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service, has been a passionate and tenacious advocate for the safety of women and children. On Tuesday night, Campbelltown City Council recognised Tanya’s achievements with a Community Service Award in recognition for her service to victims of domestic violence. It’s been quite a year for Tanya - in January she received an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for service to the co...mmunity through welfare initiatives. Tanya’s recent acknowledgments are well-deserved. Those of us who work with her see how she tirelessly and consistently strives to bring about lasting change for the community. Congratulations Tanya!
