21.01.2022 The Feeling Sad Or Worried? animation has been developed by MHACA and encourages community members to reach out if they are experiencing mental health difficu...lties. It provides contacts for organisations that can provide support in the Arrernte language. 1 in 5 Australians are experiencing mental ill health each year and recent figures (2017-2018 Australian Bureau Statistics) show that 1 in 8 Australians are currently experiencing high or very high levels of psychological distress. It is estimated up to two thirds of people with a mental health disorder do not seek help from professionals. There are often a number of barriers preventing people with mental health difficulties in seeking help. Many people don’t seek help until a crisis point is reached which impacts on the ability for the person to recover quickly and puts pressure on emergency services. The key message is to reach out if your are feeling down, sad or worried as a number of supports are available. The animation was produced by ITALK Studios in the Arrernte language.

21.01.2022 Please join us in congratulating MacYouth employee Loretta on her recent promotion to Senior Youth Services Officer, Haasts Bluff. Loretta brings joy and creativity to our MacYouth programs and encourages leadership in young people.

20.01.2022 As the NT biosecurity zone restrictions have now lifted we look forward to being able to see everyone again on Tuesday. The ongoing safety of our young people, families and staff is our top priority which is why we’ve developed a COVID-19 Management Plan for each youth facility in our communities.

20.01.2022 MacYouth would like to give an extra special shout out to Isaac Rayson who was just named MacDonnell Regional Council's employee of the month, in the Above and Beyond category. The current COVID-19 pandemic has brought a lot of uncertainty to our communities and has made even the simplest day to day tasks extra challenging. Nevertheless, challenging times can also bring out the best in people. In recent weeks Isaac has risen to the challenge and gone above and beyond for his community, Kintore. Whether its assisting night patrol with staff training, consistently meeting all of his youth services commitments, helping boarding school youth with their homework or joining in the civil team to complete waste collection, Isaac has most certainly gone above and beyond! Please join us in congratulating Izzy on this great achievement!

17.01.2022 The Kintore Local Authority will have new energy this year as Kintore Youth Board members and MacYouth workers Francis and Shania have become the newest members of the Local Authority. Highlights for Francis while working for MacYouth and being on the Youth Board include taking young people on bush trips, organising new sports equipment for footy and the youth drop-in space and the installation of the new water fountain. We should have more playing areas around the drop-in centre. I want to make sure young kids are attending school and there is training at the college to help people stay and work in community Francis Collins Kintore Local Authority and Youth Board member

17.01.2022 In June, MacYouth partnered with WILD1 to deliver a women's cultural camp located outside of Papunya at Kirrinyarra. The camp activities included visiting cultural sites, traditional tool making, painting, cooking, talking stories with elders and engaging in important conversations around women's wellbeing. It was a fantastic few days camping in such a special place and MacYouth wish to thank all the girls from Haasts Bluff and Papunya for their participation. Thanks to Territory Families for funding this program. A big thank you to all the stakeholders who participated, Papunya Tjupi Arts, Central Land Council, MacKids and WILD1. Thank you to our local MacYouth staff especially Loretta and Joselyn for making this camp a huge success.

Liebig, Hermannsburg, Papunya, Haasts Bluff, Imanpa and Finke squared off for 2 action packed days of Softball fun in Alice Springs. Well done to ALL the girls for taking part, and a special congratulations to Kintore for taking away the title in a thrilling Grand Final showdown with Hermannsburg. Grand Final Score: Kintore 4, Hermannsburg 3. ... Thanks Caama Alice Springs for this great video, and thanks to Softball NT and NPY Women's Council for your support and getting involved!

13.01.2022 Our MacYouth teams have been busy with hygiene promotion, dropping off meals, school holiday activity packs and supporting young people with boarding school work. In the words of MacYouth employee Nick Hayes "The reason why we were doing the breakfast drop off with powdered milk and weetbix is because MacYouth chose to do an outreach service to houses around Santa Teresa. The kids were surprised, thankful and happy that we were doing this in such a difficult time at the mome...nt where there are not many activities happening. Our main goal is to do as much outreach and delivery of activity packs as possible. The reason why this is our goal is to keep our activities as engaging as possible during the restrictions. It gives the kids something to do because right now the Rec Hall is closed and it is school holidays this week and normally we have lots of activities happening at the Rec Hall. Lastly, as well, it gives our team a humbling, good feeling to do something for the kids and community during this time." We are so grateful for our teams' continued resilience and innovation to support young people across all our communities during this time. See more

12.01.2022 Michael Liddle on why it's so important to listen to health advice right now. With thanks to ICTV for working with us to produce these messages.

09.01.2022 Sunday Music Session takes place in Utju // The lead up to this trip began many weeks ago with Utju being the first community to participate in Red Dust's remot...e learning music program delivery model due to the COVID virus & border closures. Abraham and Stephan had been zooming weekly with Red Dust to begin the song creation process. However, a few weeks ago the Bio security lifted for remote communities in the NT and the opportunity arose for NT based staff to pay Utju a visit in person. The week began with the band jamming and recording 5 songs in a studio set up in the school, eventually working on one of the songs that had been developed through the remote delivery project. Stephan, Melvin, Dickie, and Ephram among others all played on the song with many others contributing in other ways throughout the recording process. The song was then further developed by senior Unity College students currently at Areyonga School and some former students in the community also getting on board to write lyrics and record vocals, even incorporating local members of the famous Central Australian Aboriginal Women's Choir. The whole project was very much community driven with Abraham playing a primary role in producing the song and mobilising the community around the project which is evident in both the song and the video. The song is about how communities look after each other and keep each other safe and whilst it does not explicitly mention Covid19, the song is inspired by recent events and talks about keeping communities safe from within and the need for everyone to listen and work together in Utju to stay safe. Some truly incredible local musicians are featured here with a stunning backdrop, so while we can't all be there in person right now, we can in spirit & it was amazing to get our feet back on the red dust. Big shout out to @Jonty & the amazing teachers & staff at @Areyonga School. Happy Fathers Day! #music #song #community #enjoy

08.01.2022 Mara Paltjilla! (Clean your hands!) Check out this awesome song made by Jeffrey Zimran and the students of Haasts Bluff School, with MacYouth helping behind the scenes.

07.01.2022 Our Southern Cluster came together in Alice Springs in March to kick off the 2020 MacYouth Sport Calendar. The weekend saw young fellas from Finke, Imanpa, Titjikala, Santa Teresa, Amoonguna and Hermannsburg compete for the top spot in a friendly yet competitive soccer event. In these trying times we are feeling grateful to have been able to get this first event over the line. We are working with teams and communities to ensure our programs come back stronger than ever! Wel...l done to all the fellas for an amazing weekend, notably the guys from Amoonguna for coming out on top! It was great working with NPY Women's Council to ensure the involvement of Finke and Imanpa. Stay safe and we hope to see everyone back on the pitch soon! Many thanks Northern Territory Government, Alice Springs Town Council and everyone else for making this possible.

05.01.2022 MacYouth teams are getting around to kids and families with some activity packs whilst we can't open rec halls or play sports. Check out the happy faces of Jayde and Woody in Santa Teresa/Ltyentye Apurte and the team in Amoonguna (Sammy, Winky and Terry) getting ready to distribute some packs around community! We love our teams ... They're working hard to make sure kids have something to do and know they're still around to talk or help! Show your appreciation in the comments for our awesome teams across the region
