23.01.2022 Great way to celebrate your horses birthday today!
20.01.2022 STAGE 4 LOCKDOWN INFO
17.01.2022 Stuck in the arena with nothing to practice? No matter if you are a trail or endurance rider or focus on western disciplines or do hunter, jumpers, eventing ...or dressage, here are some wonderful exercises to break up your "arena boredom" and cross train you and your horse by incorporating poles, lateral movements, different patterns and a variety of transitions! Be certain to start with a good 20 minute warm up with large figures, slower gaits, and more simple movements, then once your horse is properly warmed up move to tighter turns, quicker transitions and harder exercises. *Please take into consideration the age, physical condition and prior training of your horse prior to doing these exercises to prevent injury and consult a professional trainer as needed. - Megan & Jessica Edit to add: Thank you to everyone who is sharing these exercises! We know there are hundreds of other exercises, but tried to include some of our favorites as well as some variation. We hope that all levels of horse AND rider - no matter the discipline or breed - can improve their coordination, muscle condition, suppleness, reaction time, rhythm, relaxation (reduce tension), straightness, impulsion and connection from learning to do these exercises correctly! We like to start adding new exercises into our riding routine in "baby steps" at the walk - especially if horse or rider are out of shape or green - to make sure it's a positive experience for horse and rider. :)

08.01.2022 Further Update: Care of Horses. Presently we are waiting for detailed information from State Government regards caring for horses. Once we have this we can... provide some fuller details, however, in the interim we have been advised that members can travel more than 5 km's from home to provide care for horses on welfare grounds. As everyone can appreciate the State Government is pretty busy right now, we do expect to have our information shortly and we will provide as soon as it is available to us. For clubs planning on rallies or other activity in regional Victoria, these can no longer be run. Once again, when we have the full picture we will distribute. Thank you to everyone for doing your part to keep Victoria safe.

06.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE - 29 SEPTEMBER 2020 METROPOLITAN MELBOURNE STEP 2 From 11:59 pm on 27 September 2020, metropolitan Melbourne moved to the Second Step towards ...COVID Normal. The DHHS is currently updating their website, however, in summary, exercise is allowed within 5km of your home, or 5km from your workplace if you are on the permitted worker list (you must carry your permit). You can go riding within 5km of your home, but only where facilities are not required i.e. you can go for a trail ride within 5km of your home but you cannot go to your local club grounds. You must not travel more than 5km from where you live to exercise. You can also exercise within 5km of your workplace if you are a permitted worker, but you will have to carry your permitted worker permit. Exercise and outdoor social activity with members of your household or up to five people (including you, and from a maximum of two households) is permitted so long as you do not travel more than 5km. This must be in a public outdoor space and does not apply to people’s backyards or outdoor spaces connected to a home. You must limit your exercise to no more than two hours per day in total. Indoor facilities remain closed, unless you are a professional athlete, facility owner (where the facility is not open to the public) or are exempt under high performance guidelines (a permit is required) Restrictions related to exercising your horse on animal welfare grounds remain unchanged Coaching (in person) is still prohibited until such time as Metropolitan Melbourne reaches Step 3 restrictions. REGIONAL VICTORIA - STEP 3 On 17 September, regional Victoria moved to the Third Step of the roadmap for reopening Victoria. For sport and recreation in regional Victoria this includes: Indoor Facilities: - Indoor facilities remain closed, unless you are a professional athlete, facility owner (where the facility is not open to the public) or are exempt under high performance guidelines (a permit is required). Outdoor physical recreation: - Classes and training (coaching) can resume for up to ten people or a household - plus the trainer. - You should keep 1.5 metres between yourself and others and make sure any equipment is cleaned between users. - You must clean and disinfect equipment between users. Where possible you should minimise the sharing of equipment. Return to Equestrian Sport The advice published on 24 September 2020 for Regional Victoria’s ‘Return to Equestrian Sport’ remains unchanged. Please follow the link below for further information https://www.vic.equestrian.org.au//return-equestrian-compe

05.01.2022 When I was in high school I had a large group of girlfriends that I would sit with. One day, I went and got my sandwich and headed to the courtyard to s...it down. All of the girls were sitting in a circle and nobody moved to let me join. So I sat down behind one of the girls and began to eat my lunch. I was very confused. The leader of the group soon came over to me and said ‘Ummm Alex, we need to talk’ And I remember looking up at her as she stood over me. ‘We are ‘us’ and you are ‘you’’ All of the other girls watched on. ‘And you’re not really pretty enough to sit with us, ok’ Without saying anything, I got up off the ground and wrapped up my sandwich before walking by myself to the back oval where nobody could see me. And I cried. I feel as though many parts of the horse world can make people feel like this too. And I feel it so deeply when, literally DAILY, I am sent messages or told in person about how someone at an event laughed at someone else who rode on the left lead around a right circle. Or how at a clinic nobody sat with the person who ate different food to them. Or how ‘constructive advice’ came out at pony club like this - ‘you know she’s probably not good enough for that horse’. Or how someone has trained for years for a competition that they’ll never go to because they are afraid of being judged by their weight. I feel it. On a soul level, I feel it. After my ordeal that day (one that happened over a decade over ago and yet I still hold onto it), a girl from the group came out and sat with me. ‘I don’t want to be friends with girls who make people feel like that’ she said to me. And to this very day, she is one of the kindest, wisest friends I have. I urge everyone to be like her. To see the person who clearly knows nobody at a clinic and simply go over and ask ‘where abouts have you travelled from?’ Or to see the rider learning in public and go over after and say ‘your horse is super slick looking! What are you feeding him?!’ Be the person who sees a rider at pony club who is riding their 12hh pony with 6ft youth legs (so jealous, I am!!) and remark on how if you had that pony you’d never give him up either! Be the one that sprinkles a little magic wherever you go. Because just like I remember the girl who made me question my worth that day, I also remember the girl who followed me out to the oval to remind me that she was wrong
