25.01.2022 A big shout out to Sunbury artist Renee Broders, whose painting of singer Thelma Plum is hanging with the finalists chosen from more than 300 entries in the Portia Geach Memorial Award exhibition in Sydney. How mindblowing is the portraiture art being created in our region!

24.01.2022 We've got MORE big news here at Squishy! The next lot of our Words & Pictures Online Series are starting to open for registration and that first one is an Illus...tration Workshop Series for High School aged students with excellent human and professional illustrator Daniel Gray-Barnett https://www.danielgraybarnett.com/ Daniel is a freelance illustrator and children’s book author. Self taught, he has worked with a range of clients including The New York Times, Disney/Pixar, The Big Issue, Facebook and HarperCollins Australia. When we were chatting Dan mentioned that when he was growing up he wished that he had an actual real life professional illustrator to chat to, ask questions and learn from. So that is what he is offering! 'Ever wonder what an illustrator actually does? How is illustration different from art and what is a brief? Maybe you’re interested in a job that makes use of your artistic or drawing skills? Illustration might be for you! During this course, Daniel will share his experience of what it means to work as an illustrator and take you through some of the jobs and types of visual problem-solving you might come across. Participants will be given the choice of a brief to work on and given personal feedback on their work. We’ll look at some of the skills you can develop on your path to becoming an illustrator. This course is ideal for high school aged students who are interested in learning about what it’s like to work as an illustrator and what opportunities are available.' Initially the participants of Daniels course were to be from the Macedon Ranges only, but given COVID we are happy for young people from anywhere in regional Victoria to participate. Please share far and wide! Dates: 11am-12pm Sunday 16th, 23rd and 30th of August via Zoom Register HERE - https://www.squishyminnie.com.au/events/ Funding for this program is supported by Kyneton Community House Dates: 11am-12pm Saturday 9th, 16th & 23rd Aug via Zoom Cost $45 for the course per person We were able to secure funding for these workshops so we can offer them at a reduced cost while ensuring that creatives are paid properly for their time and expertise.

18.01.2022 Following the latest announcement of Stage 4 restrictions, we will have to close from Thursday *We will be open tomorrow and Wednesday as normal. *All current... framing orders will be completed, depending on stock availability. Completed framing orders can be delivered (phone payment and contactless drop off) *our online store is still under construction, but we are taking orders via email and social media for postal orders. I will be at the store packing orders a few hours a day, but monitoring the email and socials from home. I have been speaking with suppliers today to establish a plan to keep The Alchemist well stocked during the lockdown, to supply postal orders, but until there is further clarity on supply chains and manufacturing I ask that you remain patient and understanding if there are delays in getting your materials or in the instance that some products are unavailable. That said, I am doing everything in my power to ensure you won’t miss out on what you need. This is an incredibly challenging time, particularly for a small and relatively new business, but I want to thank you all for your ongoing support and understanding.

12.01.2022 Melbourne's laneways might be some of our smallest public spaces. But they're also some of our most loved and iconic. And that's why we're using this time to tu...rn around 40 of them into something completely unique - ready for when we can safely reopen the CBD. More than 150 Victorians working in the creative industry will be hired for the job. Designers and artists, music producers and light specialists. It'll be the biggest laneway revitalisation project in Melbourne's history. And when we're back up and running, it will bring locals and visitors back to our city - and to the businesses that call it home. I reckon it'll be pretty special.

05.01.2022 Studiobaxter @ The Mill, Castlemaine is open again for Painting and Drawing classes! (finally!) Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Do a try-out class for $10,... no materials necessary, no obligation. Plenty of room for official distancing. (max 5 people per class) Wheelchair access. Beginners most welcome, in fact most of my students are beginners or if you already know some basics I can help you with more advanced studies. I get my students doing what they love from the start so everyone is doing something completely different. Then I build lessons into their project. We learn best when we're doing what we love but I also gently challenge so that you are learning and growing at the same time. Start whenever you want. By focusing on your own idea + other projects designed to teach you techniques, we'll learn about mediums, glazes, impasto, alla prima, brush strokes, perspective, plotting, light, tone, figures, drawing, mixing colours, atmospheric effects, edges, blurring and a whole lot more. I'll take you step by step through the many and rich techniques employed by master painters over the centuries and get you started right away. Painting class times are - Thursdays 10am - 12pm, 12.30pm - 2.30pm and 2.45pm - 4.45pm. Saturdays 10am - 12pm, 12.30pm - 2.30pm. Wednesdays: 10am / negotiable. All $20 p/h payable in 4 week blocks or 15% discount for 8 weeks. Missed classes can be made up in other timeslots. Please message me to book or for more details or phone 0421908203
