19.01.2022 I love working with stone. I love the site of it showing up on a job, or collecting it from fields and abandoned old quarries or buildings. I love the process o...f arranging it to try and achieve something balanced and beautiful. I love the final day of a project, looking at what Ive achieved with my own hands....but most of all I love coming back to it, and watching the way it ages over time. Watching gardens grow around it or people interact with it. Itll be here long after Im gone. I think I can call that a legacy....

19.01.2022 What a lot of stone....

17.01.2022 3 weeks since surgery. 3 weeks until full activity can start. Going a little crazy so I focussed some energy into sewing cloth bags for Woodend shoppers in an e...ffort to move away from plastics. Growing up with a sewing machine in the house and textile classes at school paid off. A good old time indeed. See more

13.01.2022 Blackberry season too. Yep they are a weed. What an error of judgment introducing them here. Dont spray them they just come back. You want rid of them...goats and pigs will fix it for you. In the mean time they are a ripper jam and jam making is the funnest way to mess up a kitchen and invent new swear words...

12.01.2022 Ill keep banging on about it! Love these oven kits! All wrapped up today pending the arrival of a custom flue. #melbournefirebrickcompany director Ben Guildfor...d....youre a genius. Thanks for being on the phone to answer a few questions. James Fisher thanks for the gig. If you plan to get an outdoor wood oven consider these kits and nothing else. They are superb and can be finished/decorates a billion ways. See more

12.01.2022 For anyone who is at home and has time to start that garden project, Im making myself available for consultation and design. The fee will be reduced from my regular fee to accomodate your needs. We can discuss this when you get in touch. We can talk about Permaculture /productive garden layout, chicken pen design, general layout, habitat design and so forth. To fulfil my obligation to keeping a healthy distance the consultation would go as follows.... Ill call when I arrive so Im not banging on your door. We can keep our distance as we talk, marking the ground with paint. Photos of prior work that might suit your yard can be shared to your phone via texting/file sharing. The final design can be put to paper, laminated and delivered after a wipe down with spirits. Contact me via messenger or mobile 0418145027 All the best Bushy

12.01.2022 A bit of extra on the nappy experiment

10.01.2022 In October 2017, conditions for small pasture-based family farming poultry growers in Victoria became critical. The 2nd last processing plant willing to accept ...small batch pasture chickens decided to turn away small farmers. We were left scrambling for an alternative and with only one processor in the state the situation turned very grim indeed. In response to this circumstance (which deeply effected not only my own small farm but small farm producers across the state of Victoria), I decided to take matters into my own hands and develop plans to raise the funds necessary to built an on-farm poultry plant here on-site at Taranaki Farm . A micro-processing plant based out of a shipping container which would allow me and my small team to process our own chickens on-farm. A most integral step in our mission to provide a 100% transparent option for our local community to reliably source ethical farm produce. In this case meat chickens that we raise on pasture and wish to process on-farm. My objective is to complete the building and development of this plant before the end of 2018 and I'm very close to formally announcing the Pozible campaign to raise the development funds. That is where I will need your support people. Through pledging to this campaign we will raise the funds to prototype and build this micro-plant. Pledges will be rewarded of course with produce from the farm. I'm very excited about this initiative. Those that know me understand that it's been a dream of mine for nearly 10 years. A dream to be able to take responsibility for the ultimate fate of the poultry we raise. Additionally, our experience overcoming infuriating red-tape bureaucracy on many fronts positions Taranaki Farm as a powerful community supported bulwark against unfair 'small farming' conditions and a commonsense advocate for meaningful community change. We can do this. We will get this done and it will jam a wedge into a rapidly closing door that's been shutting out small farmers from providing the community not only with a superior pastured-raised chicken but also the modelling of alternatives to industrial food production - particularly the unethical normalcy of industrial shed raised chickens. Developing a on-farm poultry plant model that's reproducible by other small farmers and paving their way forward is indeed a most critical initiative at this time. If we truly want to see small entrepreneurial farmers develop healthy and ethical local food economies (that are certified trustworthy by their very customers) then we must facilitate their most basic operational needs. So I'm going for it people and I'm thrilled about it! It won't be easy and it will be an awful lot of work, but tenacity is my middle name. If you wish to be notified of the launch, please include your details on my dedicated campaign email list (and my thanks to all you wonderful people who have added your details already). If you have not, you can add yourself here : http://eepurl.com/c5S4Uj Thank you for your support in advance. Launch is imminent...

09.01.2022 Pre cut bricks, all fit perfectly, OR, require a tiny weeny shave on 1. Love it! Did I say that already??

08.01.2022 "... raising buildings to the six-star standard would cost between $42,000-$63,000 for a typical detached house." Wow that much!!! Really?? That is not our experience... but hey, we've only been retrofitting homes for 15 years. :-)

08.01.2022 See attached video below. Im currently doing this with nectarines from our tree and will put in some clingstone peach seeds too. As the season wraps up its cool to think forward to plucking fruit off a tree that youve raised from birth.... https://youtu.be/2qYQ-FiUIo0

08.01.2022 Been busy- made a very big chook pen orchard type thing with help from Nick Manning and a stone seat sun lounge water fall launch platform type thing too. Looking forward to some chill out time at the end of December

04.01.2022 Some before and after shots of a terrace/patio in Central Victoria. This house is 110 years old and has been maintained and repaired in some really funky rustic... ways inside. I was asked to utilise old stone on the property (that originated from a bunch of places) and some free stone tiles the clients had scored from friends. There was no phone signal on this job and for the first few days I had nothing but the breeze and birds for company (then I downloaded some podcasts before the signal dropped out each day). A beautiful site, a fun job. In my top 3 EVER. See more

04.01.2022 Nice install today with Roberts Shaw

04.01.2022 It was dark when I topped out on this fireplace tonight. There was also a bit of debris and stuff in the fire box. The interior is complete! The goal/style here... was to create a crisp corner arris on the corner blocks vertical edge and a bit of natural controlled chaos in the guts using natural field stone with minimal/no adjustments to the face or edges. Between starting and completing I had a 6 week pause for surgery/recovery, which in a strange way has given me a huge boost of motivation and renewed enthusiasm for EVERYTHING. When the house gets completed Ill see about getting a better lit professional shot. In the mean time thanks to Fishy and Poodle, the teachers Ive had and the lessons learned along the way. Thanks to my family too for the motivation to get better at life all the time.
