20.01.2022 WHAT'S NEW? TWO new model "CORT" guitars which are really excellent-(see photos). WHY? It's in the hand work and also in the materials The top/soundboard is made from book-matched ADIRONDACK SPRUCE. Why is this timber so special? Adirondack or Red Spruce as it's also called comes from the Adirondack Mountains in Upstate New York and the Appalachians. It is a slow growing wood and the number of tops that can be got from one tree is limited-hence its high price and demand fo...r high end guitars, mandolins etc. Used by many famous guitar maker's such as C.F.Martin (USA) pre-war 1940 D 18 dreadnoughts- & Gibson in their pre-war guitars, mandolins and arch-tops in what is called the 'Golden Era' of instrument building.. Today high end makers like Martin,Collins Santa Cruz etc use Adirondack in their speciality models. Santa Cruz's new 1934 D model had a price tag of US$18,500-00! WHAT MAKES THIS WOOD SO GOOD FOR SOUNDBOARDS? The answer- it is an extremely strong and stiff wood of all the spruce types, plus it has the highest cross-sectional strength. Many also feel that it is the superior wood for guitar tops and that some modern day guitars built with Adirondack are superior in tone to their pre-war counterparts. The result is a rich and clear sound with excellent sustain due to the stiffness in the top and tight cross grain. CORT MODEL L300V- $799-00. This is an 'OM' (Orchestral Model) size body acoustic. 19.01.2022 As I've pre-empted in the following announcement, I am now making its official that MACFIE MUSIC IS CLOSING and I'm retiring after 36 years.It's taken a lot of mind racking and sleepless night to come to this decision. I wish to pass on my heartfelt thanks all my past and present customers, many who've become friends over the years, and wish you all the best for the future and in your music lives. I'll still dabble with repairs and maybe run a few agencies from home office. 13.01.2022 Here are two of my 'old gals' up for sale. Both quite rare! The first one is a 1800's Parlour guitar,probably made in London circa 1830-1850. Similar construction of the.Panormo design/bracing, headstock etc. The top is fine grade European spruce with flamed European back and sides with ebony neck and fingerboard. It plays! I've fitted it with a low- weight hybrid nylon, rope core set of strings. The inlay work is sensational. Price is $2,500-00 The second guitar is an early 'Maton' Coolibah Model #FT6, (serial #254) from circa 1953. This is one of the first models fitted with an adjustable truss-rod. It also plays. Price is $495-00.
