25.01.2022 **Border Restrictions Direction** This weekend our border has further restrictions for travel between QLD and NSW. This is creating stress for our community an...d patients. Please see the QLD Government website for up to date information. We serve patients across our district which includes northern NSW. A border zone has been established to allow people living and working on the border to cross (with appropriate documentation) to access services in that zone, but not beyond. The map currently includes postcodes 2409, 2405, 2410 - residents in these areas can cross. Residents outside this area are in a NSW hotspot with very tight restrictions. People in areas such as North Star who travel to our community for medical appointments will require additional paperwork which we can assist you with. We have been using Telehealth (phone and video) to reach our patients since March. Please book an appointment with your GP if you need review or help! We can talk to you from the safety of your home. If during the consultation your GP decides they need to see you face to face this can be arranged. We can provide a letter to confirm that you need to cross the border for medical review. Be kind to others, wash your hands, keep your distance and keep calm. Please phone or book online to access your GP via Telehealth.

The TGA have confirmed that existing customers can remain on their Tandem insulin pumps while AMSL Diabetes and Tandem work towards resolving their concerns.... Can we continue to supply replacement pumps and consumables? Yes, existing customers will continue to be supported by AMSL Diabetes and will still be able to access consumables through the NDSS. In-warranty customers will continue to be eligible for replacements under their existing warranty policy. ( For our international community ) Does this suspension affect any other countries? 11.01.2022 At Macintyre Health we have amazing Clinical Nurse Specialists and our own dynamite diabetes Dietitian. Tell us how you are spreading awareness on World Diabetes Day in the comments below! #Repost @diabetes_australia World Diabetes Day 2020 if officially here ... It’s also NAIDOC Week. So we are marking these two special events by celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurse Diabetes Educators. Diabetes Australia, CEO Professor Greg Johnson said First Nations nurses are playing a major role in helping to meet the challenges of the diabetes epidemic. There are approximately 3000 First Nations nurses in Australia, and I take this opportunity today to recognise their contribution and, on behalf of people with diabetes, say thank you. says Diabetes Australia Professor Greg Johnson. One of these people who are making a remarkable difference to the community is proud Wiradjuri woman Dr Tamara Power, member of the Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Nurses and Midwives working at the University of Technology Sydney. She is one of Australia’s leading First Nations nurse academics and has more than 15 years’ experience in nursing, education, and research, and more recently diabetes research and paediatric endocrinology. Dr Power has a simple message to people looking to improve outcomes for First Nations people with diabetes. I want to encourage First Nations young people to consider a career in nursing specialising in diabetes. This is a career that can really impact the lives of people in our community and help keep our community strong, she said. Diabetes Australia is committed, now and into the future, to supporting First Nations diabetes communities around the country. Through guidance from First Nations nurses, healthcare professionals and community members, we will continue to fight for better health outcomes for all First Nations people living with diabetes. 10.01.2022 Medical care and our state border This is to follow up our post from late last week. The border has closed and only those in the border zone (see picture) can a...ccess Goondiwindi. Last week we had information that if you were south of the zone and needed a face to face appointment we could provide a letter. Some of our patients are still being turned away and Qld Police have told us this week that you may not be able to cross the border unless it is an emergency. We want to make sure we can continue to take good care of our community and and we are asking the Chief Health Officer for help with this problem. Until there is a solution, or, if the border zone remains closed to our patients outside the border zone in NSW, please be assured we are committed to providing access to care as best we can. If you are outside the border zone 'bubble' please don't panic, there are many things we can manage via phone or video appointment. You can book an appointment online, or with reception. If you have appointments coming up or require regular review of your chronic disease PLEASE DON'T CANCEL YOUR APPOINTMENTS and please maintain an appointment with your GP on the phone or by video. We have been doing Tele-health now for 5 months, we have a good relationship with our local pharmacies who reassure us that medications can be delivered to Boggabilla for patients further south to access. We can deliver your prescriptions to the pharmacy of your choice.

09.01.2022 Of all the myths and stereotypes about being a bloke, one of the most damaging is that men shouldn’t express their emotions and talk about the challenges they are facing. At Diabetes Australia, we don’t believe in this stereotype. We support men and women expressing their emotions healthily. Diabetes comes with many challenges and not being open about them can impact a person's emotional and mental health and can leave them feeling isolated. ... 08.01.2022 Ahh temp basals. One of the most amazing features that can be used on an insulin pump. But equally, one of the most underutilised and forgotten about feature, with dual/extended boluses not far behind. "Why do I think so much of temp basals? Because they grant us a chance to match the dynamic ride that blood glucose levels are. If you use a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) or flash glucose monitor (FGM), then you can really use temp basal rates to their max! Doing cardi...o exercise and don’t want to hypo?"... 06.01.2022 It’s National Diabetes Week! How many types of Diabetes do you know of? There are many different diabetes classification tables and as we continue to gain new k...nowledge about diabetes, these tables are regularly updated. However, the The American Diabetes Association classification shown here is still one of my favourites - It clearly demonstrates how many types of Diabetes Mellitus there are and reminds us to think beyond Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes.

06.01.2022 As Credentialled Diabetes Educators we are often asked "Will wearing an insulin pump limit my physical activity?". The good news is exercise and insulin pumps DO go together.
