24.01.2022 Shout of thanks to all who have donated necessary grocery items and toilet paper to our elderly clients. I will never take toilet paper for granted again as todays donations have meant so much. Again, thank you. Just to update on MCVA. We continue to provide social support and transport to our clients, although we are encouraging most to remain at home. Staff are able to go shopping for them so this can occur. ... Some clients however, still wish to leave their homes, due to the fact that they are quiet isolated already, with little or no family contact, or family who are busy. Although not as busy as usual, the transport program is still providing support for clients to attend doctors appointments and shopping. Over the past week, our organisation has introduced some very strict protocols in relation to infection control for the benefit of clients and staff. The Management of MCVA would like to acknowledge the great work of the staff, particularly over the last week. Thank you for the manner in which you have carried out your roles in the difficult and confusing time.

22.01.2022 Hello everyone, I hope you are all staying well and listening to the advice from experts about the Coronavirus. MCVA needs help!!!!!! We have high risk clients who are struggling to find groceries to meet their basic needs. As an organisation that provides support to the elderly and people with disabilities, we are trying to limit client contact with the wider community and shop for them. This is a proving a huge challenge, as there is limited stock available in the stores. ...Unfortunately, due to the increase in panic buying this has left our clients with limited access to the most important food and household items. We have attempted to source stock from various locations around the area but this is not proving very successful. Can you help at all????? The most common requirements are toilet paper, tissues, hand wash, soap, hand sanitizer, tinned food, continence aids, pasta, rice and life long milk. Basically any food items that can be spared. I realise everyone is struggling at this time, but many of these people have no transport or family support so we are attempting to ensure that should the situation worsen in the coming days, weeks our clients have enough food and household items to get them through. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We can arrange for any donation to be collected as MCVA staff are available to pick up from you, or items can be dropped at the office at 1 Marryatt Street, West Mackay. Thanking you in advance.

21.01.2022 Happy Tuesday. I hope everyone is staying safe and coping with the restrictions. MCVA is still hard at work, providing service to our valued clients and assisting them as much as possible. Have a great week everyone!!!!!

21.01.2022 Tracey and MCVA is proud of all our volunteers but would like to pay special tribute to our 2019 citizen of the year, Meecham Philpott. Meech you are a great guy and have the most giving heart. Congratulations you are such a worthy winner and we are very proud of your support for MCVA.

19.01.2022 Shout out to Dowdens Pumping. An employee from this local business arrived at the office today with a cardboard box and informed that he thought we may need hand sanitizer, so he was donating a box of small bottles. Thanks so much guys.

18.01.2022 The Management of MCVA would like to wish all a very happy and safe Easter holiday. The office will close at 5 pm Thursday and will re-open at 8 am on Tuesday, 14 April. For emergencies only call mobile- 0428 534 878. We understand it will be a different type of break and very difficult for some, not spending the time with family and friends.... But staying safe and well is the most important thing at this time. From us to you, enjoy!!!!!!!!! xx

16.01.2022 To those who have offered assistance and items of donations, thank you so much. With your help, and the help of others, we will be able to provide some clients with toilet paper for the first time in several weeks. We are so thankful. Thank you for helping us make a difference.

15.01.2022 Tracey & staff of MCVA would like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of Ethel Ensor. Ethel was the first transport passenger of MCVA Transport in 2010 and it has been a priviledge getting to know this wonderful woman over the last eight years. Rest in peace beautiful lady!

15.01.2022 Alot has been happening at MCVA over the past few weeks which has kept us all very busy. Demand for our services has continued to increase, we are relocating our office and the organisation has a new President. From Monday, 16 November our office will be located at 306 Milton Street. Just down towards the traffic lights at the airport turn off. We are all really excited as it is a huge office space and we are all looking forward to having a bit more room to work. Due to wo...rk commitments, President Vaughn Hansen has requested to step away from the role of President. Vaughn has recently started up his own company and has been working non stop. Luckily for MCVA he will remain on the committee in the capacity of Vice President. MCVA is also lucky to have had a very resourceful and community minded person to step into the role. Justin Englert has agreed to take on the Presidency of MCVA and we are all looking forward to working with him for some time to come. One of our most caring and committed volunteers, Scott Wakefield has also decided to join the Management Committee as a General Member. So the two new boys will join, Vaughn, Lyn, Holly and Judy to make up our knowledgeable and dedicated team. Staff are very excited to have such a great team of people involved with them.

14.01.2022 MCVA are still providing service to our clients who need it. Staff are still visiting and accompanying clients to appointments, shopping, collecting medications and distributing donated goods including the highly sought after...... toilet paper. Thank you so much to our Mayor Greg Williamson for his assistance in sourcing resources for us. Also thank you to Karen Nelson from the Lanai Apartments for her valuable donation to our organisation. MCVA Transport is also still ope...rating, but has decreased service to Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays only, until further notice. The demand has reduced dramatically on these days. Again, thank you to those who have assisted our organisation and thank you to staff for their dedication and commitment over this strange and scary time.

13.01.2022 Mackay Community Visitors Association provide a vital service to our community. They provide transport to those residents in our region who would otherwise be unable to travel to appointments. The association was recently able to purchase a new wheelchair accessible vehicle dubbed "Harry Hiace" thanks to donations from local organisations. Council was able to support the purchase with a Community Grant of $10,000. Councillor Fran Mann and Councillor Karen May had a demonstration of the newly-fitted-out vehicle this morning. #MackayPride

09.01.2022 MCVA would like to extend their huge appreciation to Stronger Communities Grant from our local federal member, George Christensen and to the Mackay Regional Council for their community grant to increase vehicles for our transport program. We are thrilled and very grateful and love the fact that our little organisation is receiving so much support and recognition by local politicians and local council.

09.01.2022 Are you feeling the need to give back to your local community? Why not register with MCVA and become a vistor to one of the local aged care facilities and brighten a residents day. One visit per week can make such a difference and let's a resident know they have a special friend.

07.01.2022 Thank you to all those generous, caring people who have contacted the organisation to donate their time to assist with buying groceries and helping our older clients. At the moment, we are doing ok. My staff are doing a fantastic job ensuring all our precious clients are safe, have food and are not feeling too isolated and not falling victim to severe depression. Clients who we physically don't see, staff are contacting them by telephone to make certain all is ok with them and they have all they need. Thank you again for your offer of assistance, but we are attempting to keep as many support staff employed as possible at this time. Stay safe and abide by the social distancing regulations to protect yourselves and others. Remember, we will get through this. Queenslanders are tough and north Queenslanders even tougher!!!!!!!!!

07.01.2022 MCVA would like to reassure all our clients and their families and friends that our organisation is taking infection control very seriously and we are doing our absolute best to provide protection and alleveate the spread of COVID 19.
