25.01.2022 HARRUP PARK DIVIDEND - THANKYOU :) A big THANKYOU to our members who support the local community and your regular visits to the fantastic Harrup Park. Did you know? Each time you spend, scan your membership card (and it's linked to Mackay Tennis) we receive credits which go to building our "annual dividend".... Receiving the 2017 FY cheque (approx value $2,200) was our lovely Patron/Treasurer Joyce Wallace (pictured) and committee member Di Fitzpatrick. It was another successful event full of friendly faces We made many new friends and had a great day with like-minded people. A perfect opportunity to try out the game that we love, in a relaxed and friendly environment. Thank you to all that attended and we can't wait for the event to grow in 2021! We will be delivering our fantastic new fixture formats (Being match play monday night with music and veterans comp), exciting new coaching clinics and MORE!!!... Finally a big infrastructure period ahead for our complex with our new LED Lighting, new shade sails, new nets and net posts as well as a new kitchen - thanks to many successful grant opportunities from 2017!! 18.01.2022 POSITION VACANT - FIXTURE COORDINATOR We wish to advise that our fantastic and long term fixture co-ordinator DI FAULKNER has retired after 14 years of great service. The MTA Committee is certainly going to miss Di in both her role as the co-ordinator but more importantly as a close friend to many at Mackay Tennis.... To that we have a POSITION VACANT being: FIXTURE COORDINATOR for imminent start. We have an opportunity for an energetic and motivated person who has great communication skills to join us at MTA. This is a paid position (casual) of approx 10-15 hours per week. Being required Monday nights, Tuesday morning and Wednesday nights. Tinas Tennis Academy and Mackay Tennis are teaming up for a super Coaching Clinic with Ex professional and hitting partner of world no.6 Carolyn Garcia. Errol Nattrass will be passing on his skills and wisdom on Saturday the 13th of January 2018 at 8:30am.... 10.01.2022 **EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST ** | RESIDENT / HEAD COACH Mackay Tennis Association Inc, Kippen Street, Mackay QLD 4740 OVERVIEW | Mackay Tennis Association Inc is seeking expressions of interest in the position of Resident / Head Coach to teach at our fantastic 13 court complex from 2021.... Being established since 1924 we have an extremely long/loyal connection to Tennis within the Mackay and surrounding district (with a population of approx. 120,000 people), our complex consists of 13 rebound synpave courts in outstanding condition (all fully lit with 8 x courts having new LED lights and poles), large air-conditioned clubhouse, air-conditioned separate pro shop/coaching building; new /modern canteen and is truly the home on Tennis in the area. Our fantastic former resident coach has departed after a strong 11 years in the role hence the successful applicant would ultimately have club development status ( or Level 2) qualification, be familiar with Tennis QLD and be able to providge general coaching for children to adults (encompassing all standards / ages, hot shots, cardio tennis as well as group + private leassons). The applicant would be registered with Tennis Australia Coaches providing insurance, working with children and first aid certifications on request. The applicant would work closely with Mackay Tennis Association Committee in the devleopment of player development and help facilitate transition from coaching to fixtures; assist at event days etc where applicable. Also assist with restringing (additional income for the coach) for our valued members. The applicant would also have opportunity to assist/run tournaments (1-2 per year) with Tennis QLD at our complex. Therefore this wonderful opportunity does exist for the right applicatant here in Mackay being sunny north queensland filled with beaches, rainforest, fishing, aiport, blue river and so much more! 10.01.2022 RENTAL PROPERTY - FIRE Hi Members, Some of you are aware and as reported a couple of weeks ago that Mackay Tennis experienced an incident where our rental property (in Juliet St) caught fire.... Sadly the fire has been deliberately lit with the front patio and front of house damaged from the flames/smoko. Fortunately no one (Janelle or family) was hurt/injured during the blaze. MTA is lucky that we are insured and we have paid the excess this week for the repair works to commence soon. The estimated cost of the damage was $16,000. Moving forward to help, if you are down at the complex and notice any suspicious activity please please always report it. South Mackay has been a target area of late and we have been exposed to several break-in's and now a fire all in 12mths - very disheartening for a not for profit club (and the costs to replace/repair damage). 10.01.2022 NEW KITCHEN: BAM!!! Many thanks again to George Christensen and his team for assisting us with our Grant Application (late last year) to complete new kitchen facilities at the MTA clubhouse. This grant was funded via the Stronger Communities Programme (Round 3) and we were fortunate to receive the notification in November that we were successful!!... A huge round of thanks must go to the all-rounder Joyce Wallace (Patron/Treasurer) and her magical helpers / committee members Lorraine Welby and Luke Morse in making this happen.....true troopers! A MASSIVE ROUND OF THANKS must also go to Wayne @ Pioneer Cabinets for an AMAZING KITCHEN fitout - your knowledge and quality is superb!! The MTA Committee has been committed the past 12mths in delivering a range of large infrastructure projects, whilst challenging it is certainly rewarding to see the new/improved facilities for tennis, and tennis in the region. COVID hit and just like many businesses, MTA embarked on period of change including: a new business development manager in Sue Kenniff (thanks for the year and all your hard work); we obtained some wonderful ATO stimulus and other grant monies thanks to treasurer Geoff O'Connor to see the year through, we have a FANTASTIC new COMMITTEE bringing some fresh ideas for 2021; a new coach to service the large demand at our fantastic complex; upgraded facilities to fencing, stands, shed and clubhouse; expansion into clubhouse hire + air con and SO MUCH MORE! 07.01.2022 We would like to make a special mention and a huge thank you to Marie Williams. Marie is a member of the Mackay community who over the years has been knitting and selling ANZAC poppies to help raise money for community projects. Marie has made and sold over 5,000 poppies and with the funds raised she has purchased 3 x Automated External Defibrillators (AED) that could help save a life in case of emergency. Last Tuesday at the ladies Christmas celebratio...n, Marie presented her donation of a Defibrillator to Mackay Tennis Association! Marie mentioned that hopefully we never have to use it, however we are so lucky to have this onsite at MTA. As for the other two AED's, one she kept at her beachside home for her local community, and the other was donated to PCYC Mackay. Thank you Marie for your kindness and generosity, you are an absolute treasure! : Using a defibrillator is very simple anyone can use one, and no training is required! Greater than 50-70% of Sudden Cardiac Arrest victims survive if defibrillation occurs within the first 5 minutes. Defibrillators are devices that restore a normal heartbeat if the heart suddenly stops, by sending an electric pulse or shock to the heart. We will announce in the coming days where the defibrillator will be located onsite to ensure all members have access in the case of emergency. 04.01.2022 Mackay Tennis Just now LIGHTING UPDATE #10 EXCITING NEWS - after 2.5 years and many many hours of hard work, detailed review of data/costs and project management, Mackay Tennis is pleased to advise that our LED Lighting Project will commence in the next week.... Installation of our new lighting poles and LED Lights is due to be completed in July. Construction will begin in the first week of July and take approximately 3 weeks to complete. We will have all new lighting to court 1 - 8 as well as replacing lights to courts 10/11. During this time all courts are likely to be CLOSED to allow construction to be undertaken. Please adjust your schedules accordingly. ACTION - Please ensure to adhere to all signage at courts, review facebook regularly for updates and share with fellow members who may not be on facebook (spread the news). The MTA Committee is certainly going to miss Di in both her role as the co-ordinator but more importantly as a close friend to many at Mackay Tennis. To that we have a POSITION VACANT being: FIXTURE COORDINATOR for imminent start. We have an opportunity for an energetic and motivated person who has great communication skills to join us at MTA. This is a paid position (casual) of approx 10-15 hours per week. Being required Monday nights, Tuesday morning and Wednesday nights. 02.01.2022 LIGHTING UPDATE #8 We have received some very welcomed news today advising that our new light poles have made it to Australian soil. We envisage to have these transported as quickly as we can, in order to erect our fantastic new LED Lighting at the complex.... 01.01.2022 THANKYOU - SPORTS EXPO 2018 What a day! Great venue (thanks MRC), fantastic people and awesome sports!! The event allows for the promotion of sports and in particular for us to show case Tennis here in the Mackay / surrounding areas. A big shout out to the team representing Mackay Tennis at the expo including Joyce Wallace, Tina Kenniff-Morse, Trent Banks, Sue Kenniff, Lorraine Welby, Di Fitz, Deborah Bulfin (and her kids - love the ball!!), Janelle and more!!...
