19.01.2022 DISABILITY ACTION WEEK 2020 This year’s theme ‘Access-ability making things better for everyone’ highlights the benefits of improved accessibility, not only for people with disability but also for the whole community. We all benefit when the communities where we live, work, learn and play are inclusive and provide opportunities for everyone to participate and fulfil their potential. Why is the Butterfly used as the symbol for Disability Action Week ... The Butterfly can only see red, green and yellow and ultraviolet rays (that humans can’t see) The butterfly can’t hear, but can feel vibrations. The butterfly uses it feet to smell and taste. The butterfly is covered in sensory hairs so they can feel the environment around them. The butterfly can’t fly if they are too cold.

18.01.2022 Junior Campus Christmas Concert This year our Junior Campus Christmas concert will be held on Thursday 3rd November at 1.45pm at the Junior Campus undercover area. We have had to change the date due to our whole of school movie day. Sorry for any inconvenience. We are very happy to announce that we will be having parents at the event following the new EQ Covid restriction update. Parents will need to sign into the event via the Bridge Rd Pedestrian gate (either use QR Code app or manual sign-in sheet) and go undercover area to ensure we can cross check for regulations. The concert will be held under our beautiful trees in the playground, so bring a chair or a picnic blanket to relax in while you watch the performance. 13.01.2022 We celebrated and recognised Disability Action Week today at Mackay West State School. The theme for this year is Access-ability - making things better for everyone, highlights their benefits of improved accessibility, not only for people with a disability but also for the whole community. Our student coloured 100’s of butterflies which were displayed on fences of both campuses - butterflies are the symbol of disability action week. The highlight was certainly our special g...uests (ex-Westies), Cooper Whitestyles and Brayden Foxley-Connolly who along with Peter Sumpter spoke to students about what it takes to be Australian wheelchair basketball representatives and the challenges people with a disability can face both in and off the sporting field. The boys then gave our students a wheelchair basketball demonstration. Absolute legends!! Thanks for coming along Cooper and Brayden. See more
