25.01.2022 Out with the old, in with the new. Today we removed our old Vertical Borer built in 1947 to make way for our new CNC Vertical Borer. Before it arrives towards the end of December, we have to lay new foundations and let the concrete cure for some time, to handle the 78 tonne sitting on top of it. Will keep you up to date on the installation progress. Exciting times ahead for Werner Engineering!

25.01.2022 PTA (Plasma Transfer Arc) welding A process we use here at Werners to put a hard coating on parts that are in a harsh, abrasive environments. The video shows the PTA welder hard facing the outside of a spacer.

25.01.2022 Something Werners feels passionate about, is helping the younger generation interested in doing a trade, either in Boilermaking or Fitting/Turning, through the schools Work Experience Program. By making placements available, the students get a greater understanding of what is involved in their potential trade to assist in decision making. There is nothing better than to watch experienced tradespeople strut their stuff in the real-time work environment to gain a better understanding. This is exactly what Connor did when working with Ray, our walking encyclopedia fitter.

23.01.2022 People Who Had One Job But Failed

23.01.2022 The Floor Borer is finally free to machine the next process in the making of our Pin Pushers. The photos (in comment) and videos show the borer drilling, boring and internally threading the Pin Pushers, where the hydraulic ram will screw into.

23.01.2022 With our old Vertical Borer removed, the floor cut up, slab removed, located under ground piped and wiring, now for the removal of the old borers foundation. This could be fun, we know how much cement and steel went in, but how much does it weigh? That is the question. All going to plan our new CNC Vertical Borer should be loaded on to the ship overseas at the beginning of November. Hopefully in Mackay ready for installation mid December so we have to have the foundation completed and cured by then!!

16.01.2022 Pin Pushers are complete, assembled and now being packed into their individual protective transport cases. Each Pin Pusher is allocated a serial number and tracked to record any future work required on them and for servicing history. Our customer service does not end just because it has left our workshop. The Werner Team takes pride in what they produce.

11.01.2022 At Werner Engineering Safety is our Priority. We have just completed the installation of our upgraded Swarf Guarding on one of our manual lathes, affectionately nicknamed The Great Wall. The Guarding was design and manufactured on-site by our Werner team.

11.01.2022 Not everything has to be complicated to be machined on a CNC. This manifold just needed the joining face cleaned up so it would seal properly. Beautiful finish Alvin

11.01.2022 The barrel that was in our 6m lathe having the ends turned, is now on our CNC Floor Borer. There are 144 vacuum ports in total, that need to be machined parallel and chamfered. A perfect job for a CNC, being a repetitious sequence. John our borer operator is very happy about this fact (see the comments for more photos). #tagamate

09.01.2022 We wanted to review one of our old video clips today... This is a brake rotor disc being machined!! We love the clips, they always captivate. How big is it!!!

09.01.2022 Check this out... a couple of smaller jobs through the workshop this week. The first one is manufacturing from a sample bolt, the second is before and after of a fan shaft.

07.01.2022 Some of the last steps in the manufacture of the Werner designed Pin Pushers. The next step is the assembly, testing and packing. The photo shows the scalloped section completed that was shown in the video.

06.01.2022 All Things Safety Yesterday we held a fire evacuation drill for the entire business. It went like clockwork. Congrats to the wardens. Practice does make a big difference. Hopefully we will never have to experience this in reality

05.01.2022 On this weeks menu is bronze bushes. We have made this LB2 Bronze bush many times over the years. We get it cast to our customers requirements, rough machine it, cut it in half, re-machine, drill & tap before bolting it into a bearing housing. All the shavings from this job are recycled.

04.01.2022 A Track-Frame off a Digger requires some TLC. Some areas are worn and needed to be built up and machined back to spec. You dont appreciate the immense forces some of the mining equipment are exposed to until you get up and close and see how steel inches thick is worn and buckled from being under pressure. Weighing a little under 20 Tonne was not going to be an issue for our CNC Floor Borer than can handle 50 Tonne on the table. Happy Days

02.01.2022 After successfully trialling our Werner designed pin pusher, our customer has ordered another 4. Made completely from solid blocks of aluminium, step one of the machining process has been done, sculpturing the outside shape. We will keep you up to date on the next process.

02.01.2022 A ship engine failed and no one could fix it, so they brought in a guy with 40 years experience. He inspected the engine very carefully, top to bottom. After lo...oking things over, the guy reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped something. Instantly, the engine burst back into life. The engine was fixed! 7 Days later the owners got his bill for $10,000. "What?!" the owners said. "You hardly did anything. Send us an itemised bill." The reply simply said: Tapping with a hammer: $2 Knowing where to tap: $9,998 Dont ever underestimate experience.

01.01.2022 Finally, our new CNC Vertical Borer foundations are completed. After 2 tonne of steel and 13 truck loads of cement and many hours of planning, organising and calculating. Well done to Doug, Nigel and crew that helped in this very important step. The stability and accuracy of the new machine depends on how well the construction of its footings are done. Next test is running of the power cables. Depicted are the various stages of the construction of the footings.

01.01.2022 No matter what size machine you have, you always need one bigger. We maxed out the length capacity of our 6m lathe with this barrel we manufactured. Any longer and it would not of fit. Only the ends had to be machined however it looked awesome when it was being turned.
