19.01.2022 Mackay Alzheimers Inc have visited further Care Facilities in Mackay this week with donations to both Kerrisdale and Homefield. We left donated knee rugs and fiddle muffs at both the Day Respite centre and the Aged Care centre at Homefield which were very well received. Fiddle muffs and knee rugs were also delivered to Kerrisdale however they were going to send them back to Good Shepard Lodge Memory unit in South Mackay for Dementia patients there. It is wonderful to see these donated items from local groups including CWA, Carlyle Crafters and others, put to such satisfying use.

12.01.2022 Someone once said when you love someone with Dementia you lose them more and more everyday. When they are diagnosed, when they go through different stages, when they go into care and when they die. This is called "Ambiguous Loss". Rapidly shrinking brain is how Doctors describe it. I wouldnt wish Dementia on any one. As the persons brain slowly dies they change physically and eventually forget who their loved ones are. They can eventually become bedridden, unable to move, u...nable to eat and drink. There will be people who will scroll by this message because Dementia has not touched them. They may not know what it is like to have a loved one who has fought or is fighting a battle against Dementia. To raise awareness of this cruel Disease I would appreciate it if my friends could put this on there page today. Thank you for all those friends or family members living with Dementia. Special thank you to all willing to post to their time line. See more

01.01.2022 Secretaries Thoughts May newsletter. Hi to our Carers, Clients , loved ones , plus our volunteers and members. Another month nearly gone by with lots having happened but very little happening with the The Corona Virus and its associated current rules / regulations which even though they inconvenience us all they are necessary to stop the spread of this virus. Our March meeting was held at our office , where it was voted on and passed that Kelly Tapim will take on the positio...n of Treasurer after Colleen submitted her resignation . Derek has recovered from his operation and will be available as a volunteer when the Corona Virus requirements are relaxed. Our last day selling raffle tickets at Mount Pleasant Shopping centre was also cancelled due to the Corona virus requirements we had two very good days prior to this. We had to close our office, all our fundraising has ceased due to concerns for the health of our volunteers. The raffle was drawn prior to Easter by staff at the Newsagent opposite our office. All prizes were delivered to the happy winners. The Easter egg basket raffle was won by our Landlord John Lovi, he is apparently still consuming chocolate. Once people movements and contact is relaxed we will concentrate on re organising our monster cent sale, naturally we will appreciate any assistance that any one offers . I am trying to organise our meeting for April to be an electronic meeting , lets hope we dont mess it up too much . Remember those that follow Facebook check out Mackay Alzheimers site to get updates and information regularly. To each and every one out there stay safe and healthy. Best regards, Peter B. See more
