03.01.2022 On the Mackay cover - Aussie 'Siri' (Karen Jacobsen) will premiere her musical memoir, Mackay to Manhattan, here in Mackay this weekend! When Karen started writing songs for her musical memoir, from Mackay to Manhattan, it was before anyone knew how much of an effect the pandemic would have on the world. It’s almost poetic that circumstances have transpired making Karen’s hometown, Mackay, the location for the World Premier of her musical. I tell my story through the songs I...’ve written, from the age of seven when I was growing up here in Mackay right up until the present day. It’s part concert, part motivational and I sit at the piano and share my story through songs; how I followed my dream to go to America which ultimately led to my voice being used in more than one billion GPS devices and as the original Australian voice of Siri in iPhones. I’m just a girl from Mackay who had a huge dream after watching Olivia Newton-John on the television in my lounge in Mt Pleasant. I had no connections in the industry, my family isn’t from the entertainment business. But somehow, I just figured someone has to grow up and be a professional singer and move to America, why not me?" Read the rest in Mackay and Whitsunday Life - out today!
