22.01.2022 &: Kevin Galea (Mackay Athletics Club) began his athlete journey in 1983 competing in all of the throwing events. W...ith Shot Put being Kevin's personal favourite. Kevin explains his process in athletics is all about personal goals and self-improvement. "Masters athletics for me is more about personal goals, whereas open you competed against the other athletes and was more serious." We have hurdles in this weeks program and athletes 12yrs and over wanting to do hurdles must register before 7pm Thursday. 15.01.2022 This Saturday 9th January from 8am at the club equipment shed at the Mackay Aquatic Recreation Complex, we will prepare for the 2021 season by checking over the clubs equipment and giving the shed a good tidy up. We welcome any members who can assist us with this task. Closed in shoes must be worn. Drinks and Sanga's will be available.

11.01.2022 Disappointing news for our masters athletes that their nationals have been cancelled for the second year running. An understandable decision due to border closures and the uncertainty of border regulations in the coming months.

11.01.2022 Mackay Athletics represent the club beautifully at the Glynis Nunn Shield over the weekend in Brisbane. Mikayla Webb had a fantastic meet running in the under 14’s age groups. She was able to achieve huge PB’s across her three events. She ran in the 100m, 200m and 400m and was able to complete her hat trick, finishing 1st in each of her events in the 14 year age group. Proving Mikayla can certainly match it with her Brisbane peers. Oliver and Toby Rule also had a successfu...l meet. Both competing in the same 1500m Oliver finishing 9th overall in the under 16 years, also taking 3 seconds off of his PB. Toby placed 4th overall for the under 14’s boys running his second fastest time of the year. Oliver and Toby took to the track for the 800m Sunday afternoon and Oliver came 1st in the age group under 16 boys and Toby came 2nd for 14 year old boys. Both boys knocked off 3 seconds off of their PB’s. Also confirming that these boys can mix it with the Brisbane boys. All Athletes would like to thank their coaches and the community for their support. Also special mention to their training partners, teammates and families over the last 10 months who have helped support them and pushed them to their limits. Congratulations to all three Athletes, 2021 is shaping up to be a busy year.

Mackay and Whitsunday Life newspaper will be doing a story on our athletes who were named in the team. If you would like your child to take part, please gather at the finish line at approx 1:15pm before the start of Relay Day this Saturday for Amanda to grab a group photo and have a quick chat to each person.

03.01.2022 We are pleased that we can provide the following coaching sessions to our fully paid members. Come down to the Mackay ARC on Wednesdays 4:45-5:45pm. We will have the following sessions for the next 7 weeks. Please enter and exit at the gate near the equipment shed.... All Attendees will be required to complete the attendance record on arrival and those details will be passed on to facility management. Please pay your $3 facility fee to the coach on the day.
