19.01.2022 Something clever and funny from a very talented singer! Thanks to Annette Worthington for bringing this to my attention

19.01.2022 By happy coincidence who should turn up whilst I was viewing the Selfless Seniors Exhibition this morning but Ron and Lourelle Williams! I was able to take a photo of them in front of their entry in the exhibition. Ron informed me they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last week so this lovely couple are to be doubly congratulated. I think photographer Liz Andrews perfectly captured the loving bond they share, and fittingly photographed them in their garden, the produ...ce from which they have shared with many in the 40 years they have tended it together. If you get the chance go and view this exhibition which has been so thoughtfully curated by Mackay Regional Council. For those who can't make it into town to catch the Selfless Seniors Exhibition on the walls of Jubilee Community Centre or on the screens at the Sarina Neighbourhood Centre or Mackay Regional Council Libraries you can view all the stories for these amazing seniors in the digital flipbook at https://bit.ly/3heRgTd As Mayor Greg Williamson said, these really are "representatives of a unique generation" and we should be very proud to have them in our community.

14.01.2022 As we prepare to honour all the Mothers in Australia this Sunday here is a message from our Musical Director, Nicole Thomson, and a playlist of our choir's performances put together by our President, Jeanette Oberg: This Sunday, we celebrate Mother's Day, and have the opportunity to honour the women in our lives, to say 'thank-you' for being the wonderful people that you are. Some of the biggest influencers of my life have been women: Barbara Allen and Lorraine Smith, who be...lieved that I could be a singer in the world outside of Mackay (and they were right!); my grandmother, Lady Gwen Abbott (and Grandad of course) who stressed the importance of being kind to everyone, regardless of their position and bank balance; and my own mother and aunts, who have supported me through the highs and the lows in my professional and personal life. I would not be the person I am without those life-changing experiences and I am still influenced today by those people, even in their absence. Thank-you for being a part of our lives - for teaching us, for inspiring us, for loving and supporting us. To all the Mothers in our choir, thank you for singing with us every week, and giving yourself a 'holiday' outside of your family and work commitments. We love you and we cannot wait to see you again in person, and enjoy each other's company once more. https://www.youtube.com/watch

14.01.2022 As promised here are the details for Barbara's funeral service: Wednesday 5/8/2020 at 1.30pm City Funerals, 105 Sydney Street (between Alfred Street & Shakespeare Street), Mackay QLD 4740 There is limited seating inside the chapel but there is an outside area with standing room. So far it looks like good weather is expected on the day.... The choir will not be singing at the service, The service will be live streamed and I expect to be able to send the link for this nearer the time so if you cannot make it to the service you can watch on your own device.

13.01.2022 For those with Mackay Eisteddfod trophies to return.

12.01.2022 Following the Management Committee meeting on Monday night, attended by many current members, it was decided all choir activity will be suspended effective immediately. The highest priority is to protect our more vulnerable members whilst Covid-19 is an active threat. The Management Committee will put in place plans so that when we are able to resume singing together we will be ready to hit the ground running. You will be kept informed of all decisions in a timely manner but ...please don't hesitate to call or write if you have any questions. 0418873379 [email protected]

10.01.2022 A reminder that bookings are essential for these two concerts due to Covid-19 requirements. There will be NO tickets available at the door. Face masks will be provided on entry for those who don't have their own. The Friends kiosk will be open with EFTPOS available so come along early and enjoy a drink and a snack. The theatre door will also be open earlier than usual so you will be able to make your way to your seat without queuing. Mackay Choral Society will be holding a fundraising raffle both nights so please bring some cash if you want to be in the running to win a great prize!

10.01.2022 Vale Barbara Allen It is with the greatest sadness I must report to you that our own dear Barbara Allen has passed away peacefully. This comes just days after her dear friend Betty Shaw also passed away. Although we haven't seen much of her recently, Barbara was a part of our choir family for decades. Along with her late husband, the much loved bass and our former Patron, John Allen, she was a staunch supporter of Mackay Choral Society. She will be remembered with love by all... choir members, past and present, who had the good fortune to know her. Barbara was made a life member in 2005 and was our deputy accompanist for many years although not recorded on the Honour Board until 2006. She last accompanied the choir in 2018. I know many of you will have special memories of Barbara and I would encourage you to write them down. I have no doubt we will all want to gather together to celebrate Barbara's life at some time in the near future. Details of Barbara's funeral will be advised once finalised. In the current circumstances we cannot make assumptions on what role, if any, the choir might be able to play at her service. I will keep you all informed as details become available.

09.01.2022 Friends and supporters of Mackay Choral Society, we want to inform you of a programme our organisation is a beneficiary of. It is called the ANZ Home Loan Introducer Programme. Put simply, if you go along to the ANZ bank and successfully take out a qualifying loan, having been referred by a member of MCS, ANZ may pay a commission to MCS. It should be stressed that this is NOT financial advice, everyone should decide for themselves where they wish to take out a loan. It should also be noted that there is no cost involved for either the person borrowing or MCS. Should you wish for further information please do not hesitate to send us a message.

08.01.2022 Congratulations Margaret Harvison OAM

08.01.2022 It is with great pleasure and pride we announce that Miss Margaret Harvison has been awarded an OAM in the 2020 Queen's Birthday Honours for service to the performing arts. Margaret has been an active member of the choir since 1982, serving continuously on the Management Committee from 1983 to the present day. Her contributions to the life of the choir have been many and varied and she has been one of the "constants" who have held this group together. Although we cannot join together at rehearsal tonight to offer our congratulations I am sure each and every member, past and present, will be raising a glass to this wonderful lady!

02.01.2022 We've lost power in Bucasia so this post will be briefer than planned but I didn't want the day to close without issuing a huge thank you to the volunteers who turned out to help paint the outside of the Ken Martin Choral Centre today. Your efforts saved us over $3000 in a year where we have been unable to earn any income from performing as a choir. You worked hard, and cheerfully in extreme conditions. I hope you all feel a deep sense of pride and achievement as you drift off to sleep tonight. You are heroes and on behalf of the Committee and all our members I applaude you

02.01.2022 To our valued members and supporters, we are unable to gather in Jubilee Park this ANZAC day to sing with, and for, our community and our veterans. Instead here is a message from our Musical Director, Nicole Thomson, and a link to a video of the choir performing a medley of war songs at our You Me and High Tea Concert in 2012. "This ANZAC day is unlike any we have experienced before, where the world is providing a taste of the uncertainty of life, that our veterans would have... experienced on a daily basis in the defence of our country and the freedom that we cherish. We show our love and respect for them in this small way, and will continue to honour their memory in grateful thanks. Lest we forget." 02.01.2022 Our own Margaret Harvison has been honoured yet again. This time with an entry in the Selfless Seniors Photo Exhibition organised by Mackay Regional Council as part of Seniors Week 2020. Many thanks to Liz Andrews Photography and Design for supplying the attached photos. Also honoured in this exhibition is choir life member, Ron Williams and his wife Lourelle. Unfortunately I don't have a photo of Ron and Lourelle to display here yet. The exhibition can be viewed at the Jubilee Community Centre (the old library next to the MECC) each day until Thursday 27 August from 8.30AM to 4.30 PM. I believe it will also be available digitally and if so will post a link to it when available. Congratulations Margaret, Ron and Lourelle - take a bow
