24.01.2022 Abundance Day this Saturday at the Mackay Community Garden. Come along from 10am to share Herbal Teas from the garden, good food and good company.

24.01.2022 A great crowd at the Mackay Community Garden today for Abundance Day. Our resident wood fired pizza cooker Shine cooked up a storm with pizzas, savoury coconut chips, jackfruit pizza and cheese, onion and rosemary damper. It’s so satisfying to use produce from our gardens in cooking.

23.01.2022 Are you wanting to save money on food bills? Do you want to easily grow healthy food for you, your family or your livestock? Read about just some of the plants that are growing now at the Mackay Community Garden.

23.01.2022 We will be holding a Buckingham Palace Style Garden Party at our garden on Saturday 12 December at 3pm. There is no charge for food as we are lucky enough to be the recipient of a grant from Mackay Regional Council which will fund the food for the day. Chances Cafe will be supplying and serving the food and the Mad Cow Coffee Van will also be there and charging their usual prices for their delicious beverages. There will be plenty of shade in the garden, byo water bottles, sunscreen and insect repellant. There is no dress code, you can dress up or down, your choice.

22.01.2022 We have been advised that this event is going ahead but with Social Distancing implemented. It’s been moved to a bigger cinema to accomodate Corona Virus regulations. Watch FB for posts from the Biggest little Farm.

21.01.2022 This beautiful, healthy. organically grown Comfrey plant will be on sale along with many other food plants and garden products at our stall at the Farleigh Palm Fete Sunday 23 May starting at 8am. CASH ONLY PLEASE.

21.01.2022 Springtime in the tropics. Such a beautiful season. Plants are jumping out of the ground. Come along on Saturdays from about 9am to 1pm and see what’s blooming like the beautiful yellow flowers of the Russian Tarragon. This is a wonderful herb for cooking, marries so well with fish and chicken and makes a wicked Tarragon Vinegar.

20.01.2022 Looking to have another MOSAIC DAY in the second half of September. Watch this space for more information and a firm date...

20.01.2022 The Mackay Community Garden is open to the public on Saturdays from about 9am to about 1pm. Come and have a look at what you can grow in the tropics.

19.01.2022 Members/volunteers wanted. The long weekend of October is the Wintermoon festival and the last days of the school holiday. There will be at least 4 of our Saturday regulars unavailable. We’re looking for some members who can open the Garden on October 3rd and greet visitors, have a chat, tell them all about the garden. Usually we open from 9am to 1pm but we can change this to whatever might suit the members/volunteers. Lyne has kindly offered to be at the Garden but would like some company. Please reply to this post if you would be able to be there. Thanks Sandra

18.01.2022 A friend of ours in Hawaii. Anyone have experience doing anything similar?

17.01.2022 Thanks to whoever it was that mowed and wippersnipped today. The garden looks great. Sandra

15.01.2022 These sandals were left at the Mackay Community Garden last week. Please call in any Saturday from about 9am to about 1pm to collect them. Msg us if this doesn’t suit and we can make other arrangements. Sandra

14.01.2022 Amazing visitor to the Pigeon Pea at the Mackay Community Garden today. A very busy, very big Bumble Bee. I wasn’t quick enough to capture it front on, just got it’s bum and one wing - in almost the centre of the photo. Apparently there has been one spotted in the Pigeon Pea other times, and why not the flowers are beautiful.

11.01.2022 Happy Friday + long weekend vibes Loving this spiral herb + flower garden that the crew from Organic Motion made a month ago as part of their permaculture course at the garden. What are your long weekend garden plans??

10.01.2022 Bucket of my just-picked herbs going to Chances this morning. Red Aibeka, Garlic Chives, Bay Leaves, Russian Tarragon, Rosemary and Pineapple Sage. Grown with love at Rural View and most of these are available at the Mackay Community Garden as well.

09.01.2022 The mountain of mulch is now a molehill thanks to all the hard work from the volunteers today. We had 35 lovely people at the garden who did an amazing job of weeding, pruning tidying and placing mulch to retain the moisture in the soil and help to suppress weeds without using chemicals. We had the Many Hands Make Light Work team, Mackay Community Garden members and members of the public along helping with the work. Thanks to everyone who contributed in any way. If you’ve never been to the Mackay Community Garden or haven’t been for a long time, come along any Saturday 9am to 1pm and have a look. Sandra

09.01.2022 Abundance Day at Mackay Community Garden, Saturday 12 September. The garden will be open from 9am for our usual working bee, members and volunteers always welcome. Then join us from 10am for fresh herb teas made from our organic garden grown herbs. We will have a share table for your excess garden produce, plants, seeds etc. If you don’t have anything to share this week, come along and share your knowledge and friendship. Everyone welcome. The Dogbane has been flowering beautifully, if you’d like some cuttings to take home, ask one of our members and we’re only too happy to help.

08.01.2022 Abundance Day today from 10am. Everyone welcome to share knowledge, good conversation, friendship, food and herb teas. Bring anything you have in abundance in your garden to share too.

07.01.2022 A big thank you to the organisation who dropped a heap of mulch in our Community Garden. It's very much appreciated.

07.01.2022 Farleigh Palm Fete is on this morning. A little rain overnight is wonderful for the plants. We'll be set up next to Pioneer Orchids.

04.01.2022 For those who haven’t heard, we’ve been approved for the $5000 grant that I applied for recently. This money will be of great assistance to prune/remove some of the weed trees that are growing like crazy in the garden. Thanks Mackay Regional Council.

04.01.2022 Come to the Mackay Community Garden tomorrow - Saturday - and check out the revamped front entrance with the beautiful Pioneer River creating a stunning backdrop. The front entrance is through the council car park at the far end of Bridge Road on the right.

03.01.2022 Would any of our members like to volunteer to help out if we had a stall here?

01.01.2022 Mackay Community Garden would like to let you know that we are currently cooking wood fired pizzas at or Garden on West Mackay. If you can be here within the hour, before 1pm we will have some to share. FREE.
